To seed the sponge, take the sponge media and move it around the gravel or substrate. 2.TO RINSE, USE AQUARIUM WATER --- When rinsing and cleaning the sponge, always use aquarium water instead of tap water. Do not use hot water. Clean the sponge regularly, every few (2 to 4) weeks. 4. REPLACE EVERY 6 MONTHS --- It is recommended to replace the cotton sponge every 5-6 months. How to Prevent the Filter from Floating? 1. Before placing the sponge filter in the aquarium, keep it soaked in water for at least 5 minutes. Then squeeze it in the water to remove all the trapped air, and then wait for the sponge to absorb enough water. It will keep the filter submerged into the water and it will not start floating. 2. One more reason for the floating of the filter is the high pressure of the air pump used. If the air pump pressure is very high, it can make the filter float on water.
