Does Generate Heat
Product functions as described and works as claimed, infact I'd even go as far as saying even better. Tracking definitely improved, even I noticed the difference using the Oculus Quest 2. My play area has diffused lighting Didn't realize during the daylight it was affecting my tracking and overall image quality and was just getting-by. Upon first use during the day I definitively noticed the difference. Contents It came with screws and plugs for wall mounting, connecting AC electrical cord with switch and power brick. Reading the reviews before purchasing I became aware of its shortcomings. Such as: Housing made of thin plastic Short product lifespan Burnt-out IR leds after short use All of these User problems possibly could have been avoided upon receiving (Most products with LEDS produce heat) *Took care in handling and twisting the thin plastic case to get the optimal positioning. *Turned vent slots to optimize HEAT dissipation (wallmounted), one on bottom and two on top. *Care taken in handling electrical cords as not to twist while positioning. * Used 3M Command damage-free hanging system, to ease mounting instead of supplied screws. Heat and Dust Aside from water, heat and dust is probably any electrical products worst enemy. This product does Generate heat and so does my Flatscreen T.V., which has been on almost 24/7 since purchased two years ago. Whenever its on I've a fan blowing from the side to vent and keep T.V. and IR cool. I'll Turn it OFF when not in use. (NOT recommended for Outdoor use.) Come on guys, for its price it's a definite bargain, just needs a little effort in handling and care. UPDATE 8/2024: Still performing as New. Found a few Leds not turning on, at first I thought it was burning out, which is not the case, it was the power brick. The way I've set it up was through a multi outlet surge protector. Which is always on, which keeps current flowing to the power brick which it was not intended for constant power 24/7. So I've learned to unplug it when not using it, now it's working and all Leds functioning. Btw: from this Vendor the Shipping and processing was extremely fast as it arrived about three days earlier than expected, ( I live across the Pacific.)

Affordable, simple and functional.
So, you’re reading all these reviews about the IR illuminator, wondering which ones are real and which ones are fake. It’s hard to find honest and concise opinions about products on Amazon, so here we go with some observations and tips, from a real person who wants you to be informed: First off, this is probably the most affordable version of an IR illuminator on Amazon, but it doesn’t come across as ‘cheap’ to me. It’s solid feeling, and has a nice quality power cord system with an in-line toggle switch that’s handy for quick on/off (although I have mine attached to smart plugs). Easy mounting system, and the whole housing is adjustable for getting it at just the right angle. I’ve found that they work great, and yes, I said “they”, because I bought a second one; Very bright and great coverage in IR, improves tracking on your headset tremendously. I can now experience VR in a completely dark room, out in the back yard at night, or in any other low-light situation, and it’s pretty sweet. Hand tracking is also very strong, if that’s your jam. Okay, so here’s some real-world usage hints for placement - generally, it’s best to mount the light(s) at approximately eye level, off to a 45 degree angle, in front of you. If you’ve got 2, put it on the other side, also at a 45 degree angle facing you. No, don’t put a single one (or a pair) behind you, pointed up at the ceiling, because the IR sensors on the front of your headset will essentially be in the shadow your body casts from the illuminators, and you’ll lose tracking a lot. If you have 3 or 4 of them for a full roomscale setup, THEN start putting them behind you at that 45 degree tilt, also at eye level. Ideal placement should be kind of like speakers, you want coverage in your face for the best experience, I’ve tested it quite a bit and I’m finding this way works better. This placement also solves the questions people have about using them in the backyard, since there’s not many surfaces outside to reflect IR light, just put them in front of you on a tree, fence or whatever you have available. Overall, a great bargain on a simple accessory that makes a big difference - grab a couple and you’ll never see the “increase the brightness in your room” error again. Hope my review helps!

Works in the Dark with Quest 3
My video demonstrates the tracking capabilities before switching to passthrough camera to show how truly dark it is in my living room. In a pitch black room, even bare hand tracking works like magic with Quest 3. Having two infrared projectors, set up parallel on the wall, 8 feet off the ground pointed at each other while also angled slightly downwards allows for tracking comparable to a brightly lit room during the daytime. There are many different ways to install these in the wall. The included screws (which require a drill), but fear not, because using thumbtacks is an extremely easy alternative. I personally used command strips, which also gets the job done well. I recommend getting the white model of these infrared lights, because they blend in with the wall more and aren’t total eyesores. For the money, these infrared lights are very much worth it. Edit: I have a couple more points I wanna make. Firstly, this infrared projector is an unintentional, yet brilliant fix to one of Quest’s most glaring issues that affects every Quest headset: light leakage through the nose gap. If you’re someone like me, playing in a brightly lit room as recommended by Meta themselves causes distracting light leakage which sometimes is a real immersion breaker. The only way to fix this used to be dealing with annoying third-party flappy nose guards that never even fully blocked all of the light… HOWEVER. Playing in a fully pitch black room with these infrared projectors on is a better fix for this issue than any other solution, period. No annoying feeling against your nose, and I can now be fully immersed in my VR games while also saving on my light bill. Thanks Orzero :)

Amazing for VR headsets cameras and VR headsets tracking either controls or your hands.
I bought 2 for 360 degree coverage. These lights are amazing well worth the price. The cord length is not as long as I would have liked but it’s fine. They feel durable also don’t use much power and was easy to install. They are not bright to the eyes but perfect for the VR cameras and it’s tracking and other cameras so they have versatility. Personally I highly recommend them.

It’s pretty good, but bulbs burn out kinda fast
A few of the bulbs still work, so the device does still work *in theory*, but many bulbs began burning out pretty quickly. It’s not useless, but meh, and I’m not happy with the quality. For what it’s meant to do, it’s fantastic for the short time all the bulbs work. It’s a shame, because this would be brilliant if someone would make this product that gives a damn about quality.

Works on baby monitors
Great for night vision baby monitors! Our baby monitors cameras had very weak ir lights for night vision. I just point this at the ceiling and it lights up the whole room.

Works perfectly with my MQ3 in Total Darkness
Bought this for rhythm gaming without having to have all the lights on at night. While it doesn’t appear bright at all in daylight, the MQ3 picks it up perfectly in the dark. I recommend placing this in a corner of a room facing outwards and not directly at the MQ3 however face the same general direction for the most benefit. I no longer miss blocks in Beat Saber because of low light conditions. 100% recommend this product.

Worth It
Was hesitant after reading the reviews but got it for the price and it was worth it. I was looking for an infrared light so I could play VR while in bed without annoying my spouse or the dog and this works extremely well. Our bedroom is large (about 11' X 11') with a walk through closet (another 5' long) and I put this on the headboard behind me. It lights up the entire space making it VR (Oculus) usable and I haven't had it lose tracking unless I turn the light off.

Works well for headset tracking, but not hand tracking
One of these is good enough for camera-based VR tracking of an approximately 3.5m by 4m space when placed appropriately and with enough objects in the area (which required a bit of experimentation), although it's probably helped by the three computer monitors, dim desk lamp, and base stations. However, apparently it's not enough for hand tracking, which is very janky even when your hands are 1 meter away from it and being lit from behind.

Very directional
Didn't have quite the spread I wanted but it's decently bright. Works with quest 2 so you can play in the dark. But IR doesn't give as much detail and contrast for the accuracy of some games. Maybe a second lamp would help. In the dark if you look into the light you'll see a faint bit of red on the leds. So don't expect it to be hidden.
