The quality of the cat food that I purchase became of great importance to me after I lost my first cat to a disease that my vet said was triggered by, and worsened by, the cat food I was feeding him (Fancy Feast). So I begin doing research on what cats really need in their diet and the backgrounds and production of various cat foods on the market. Of everything I found, this brand “Orijen” always seemed to make the top five list of healthiest and most nutritious cat foods made with the highest quality ingredients as well as the best sourcing and production practices. Admittedly, there was another brand that was above ‘Orijen’ in these categories that I wanted to give my cats...but cats are picky, and they did not care for that brand too much...so I went to my second choice, which was ‘Orijen’. Ever since trying Orijen’s ‘Cat & Kitten’, we have never found another “go-to” food for the cats. They truly love this stuff. And as you can see in the video, I once got a bag home and (even though they had eaten that morning) they were more than happy to tear the bag open before I could even get to it. (usually I keep the cat food stored away in a cupboard). If you’re looking for a fragrant, dry food to attract your cats’ attention, this is definitely a go-to. Even with my human nose, as soon as I open the bag I can smell a powerful scent of cat food; it’s not an unpleasant smell, but it is certainly strong enough that a cat will know that the food is there. As my cats’ responsible human, I am happy with this food because it is responsibly sourced with cat’s health and humane practices in mind. More specifically, it is made of 85% animal ingredients including free-run chicken/turkey, wild-caught herring/flounder/sardines, and cage-free eggs; and 2/3 of their animal ingredients are “fresh or raw”. I am also encouraged by the fact that the first 16 ingredients listed on the bag are all whole animal sources; no fillers, supplements, fruits, veggies, or mysterious compounds. Additionally, taurine, which you must be wary of in cat food since it can be found in high quantities (particularly in low quality, high protein) cat food and cause health disorders in your pet, is found as a respectably small percentage of this food. I only wish that Orijen made wet cat food, since making sure cats get enough water is a very important thing. I did try to put some water on their dry food, but they didn’t like that. My answer to that was to buy a motion sensitive water dispenser, and buy them canned cat food on occasion from another respectable brand. With regard to price, yes it is rather expensive for a cat food. And getting used to it did take some time. However, after being told that I lost my first cat because of the low quality of the cat food I was feeding him (and I had no idea!), the peace of mind I get now from knowing that I am feeding my cats a properly nutritious food is priceless. Overall I am very happy with the brand and this flavor, and as you can see in the video and the picture of the damage done to the bag before I could open it and the cats are also very happy with it. my cat loves it, and i think it smells pretty good as far as dry food goes not overly strong or anything. size of the kibble is great for my cat bc she's small for her age and doesn't take well to big pieces. honestly only bummer is the amount for the price but i can also understand that, my cat's fur has been so shiny which goes to show the ingredient quality. would pair this with the pate for extra moisture in ur cat's diet but nuff said

Gee-jus!! It cost as much as a filet mignon and its dry food so I went and bought wet food and spent the same amount of money, actually more but for 84 cans of wet cat food and they love the Orijen, but I know for a fact that they don’t run when I open a bag of this bag no matter what animal listing is in the bad contents. I think it’s good cat food and better than the rest of them and that’s why I rated it 5. I just don’t want to spend an arm an a leg on the dry food. I have one cat that I got in 2014 and he has never been sick once and had thrown up 2 times in his life that I’m aware of. And I hate to admit it but I gave him not the best food which is bad in my part but he is fast, smart, not fat, he loves both dry snd wet food and that’s why I buy both. I just can wrap my head around $80 a bag unless it’s 25lbs or more but you guys the pricing is like gas pricing up in the Los Angeles area and I saw it over $8.00 a gallon. I hope that makes sense. I just think it’s good if not excellent but the price is where I’m stuck at as I don’t see the value. I do see it but not at that price. It’s like when someone says, “ I’m not paying $250,000 for that vehicle! Are you out of your mind. And when I tell people how much I spent on this bag of cat food, everyone was like, did you win the lottery and you’re hiding it from us? Listen I realize the ingredients are top notch and you can go look at other junk food and it’s leftover things no cat or dogs should eat unless you don’t care. So if you can find a bag for at least $40 to $45 a bag, it’s still better than throwing down $80 plus on Origen. This is obviously my opinion but notice I have only one gripe and it’s price. The manufacturer is going to stand by their decision to charge an arm and a leg believe me, but they are missing out on millions of sales because of it.

This food is AMAZING! My 3cats took to it instantly. I mixed it with the current food they had been eating for several years in one bowl and straight in one bowl. They all preferred this food hands down! I had tried to switch them to another food earlier and they rejected it completely. I have been researching cat food for the last month trying to find the best one. This brand showed up in the top several. This one stood out having the nutrition levels I desired by using real meat products. The others had equal nutritional levels but they were synthetic additives. It is more expensive by far but if my cats like it better and it has the results advertised I am willing to forgo other items in my budget to purchase this food! I advise anyone wanting to switch food for nutritional or digestive reasons to do their research but consider comparing them to this brand. It has a slightly stronger odor but not unpleasant. Smells richer. The bag can be sealed easily for storage. My only problem is how to get rid of the large amount of my old brand. They refuse it if the other is available and pick around it if mixed. I think a shelter donation is in my future!
