Strong, Smooth, and Beautiful Shimano Spinning Reel
I own several of the 4000 and one 8000 series. The 10000 rounded out my saltwater spinning tackle package and allows me to target larger species saltwater fish with confidence. The reel is smooth as silk and looks great paired with a 7’ dark matter rod. I highly recommend the Spheros line of Shimano reels to anglers looking for a budget friendly yet very well built Shimano spinning reel.

Returned my Saragosa
I was torn between these reels, a Spheros and Saragosa of the same size, so I bought both, and after a few weeks of fishing, I realize there's very little difference between these reels at least at the 6,000 size. I know I haven't spent much time on these reels, but here's my observation so far. I've fished both reels every day for that period, both on a medium heavy rod and heavy rod, and I gotta say, I felt very little difference between the two, I was able to battle pretty much the same fish with no noticeable difference, which made me realize one thing that I had been pondering that whole time, whether it was worth keeping the Saragosa, which is double the price.. Basically, I fish a 3,000, 4000, 6000, and really want a 18000 or so for my heavy rod, and honestly, it feels like the 6,000 Spheros is just as good as a saltwater reel as the Saragosa, but half the price. At the 18000 range, the Spheros is about $200 and Saragosa is around $300, which - at that point, might be a better buy given it'll be used in deep waters and bigger fish - but given that the 6000 versions are just as good, I could kinda assume the 18000 is just as good too, but if money weren't a thing, the 18000 at $300 might be the way, but overall, at least as far as 6,000 goes, if money matters to you, I can personally vouch for the Spheros over the Saragosa at least up to 6,000. Don't get me wrong, Saragosas are absolutely awesome, probably the best you'll get at that price range, besides maybe a BaitRunner, but the next step up really is Twin Power & Stellas.

Strong Saltwater Spinning Rod
I've used Penn and Shimano reels for many years, and have moved to Shimano for heavy duty spinning duty. This reel was a replacement for the same model that was sent out for repairs - used primarily for catching red grouper on a 15-30lb rod. We usually fish in 70-90', use 6-8 ounce weights, and this reel is sufficient to handle the weight. There is a lot of strain on the reel when trying to force a grouper off the bottom, and this reel is up to the challenge. I used my Stradic 8000 while waiting for delivery, and it really was not up to the task.

It works fine but a little less smooth then expected
Feels like it’s already been used but at least the delivery is fast

Solid reel, unfortunately not new
Looks like a solid reel. Unfortunately arrived in an opened crumpled bag covered in fingersmudges and some goo. I would risk and keep it anyway but my ordered 1800 is way too heavy. Will order a bit smaller version. Hopefully it will be new.

It's a keeper ! ! ! ! ! !
Very nice reel. It's a keeper for sure. Smooth and solid. Got the 8000 for crab snaring.

Defective out the box!
Defective out the box! Went to mount it on the rod and spool up some line and the bail will not flip back over. I am starting to think this Seller is reselling repaired or B line product.

I ordered this Shimano Spheros SW A 8000 as 'Used - Like New,' but the item inside was a cheap, plastic counterfeit.

I bought the Spheros 18,000 for a popping rod to hunt GT’s in Great Barrier Reef. I pulled up 7-8 of them in great fights… It is a great product. During trip on second day I had fishing slime all over gloves and dropped my rod and reel setup overboard in 11m waters (perfect to keep me humble on rest of trip, haha). Somewhat amazingly my son managed to catch it and lift it from bottom using a Jig and dropping it to bottom to snag it! Not only did it work perfectly for rest of trip, it must have prevented water ingress, because even 4 months later there is no sign of any degradation of the reel. It is smooth as butter to reel still to this day. Drag and retrieve is both perfect for the job of popping too. This was my 2nd Spheros. I bought another 6,000 after this incident. Very pleased with performance and quality of these reels, which I consider to be top value for money.

You get an IPX8 body, 10 kg of carbon drag, excellent casting, comfortable handle, and it's also relatively light weight. Balances very well with pretty much any saltwater rod I put it on (MH to XH). Handles regular size tarpons and cuberas like a champ. For those looking for the anti-reverse switch and automatic bail, these are missing by design as they are liabilities in a saltwater reel and should be avoided. If you don't know why it means you haven't really fished in "real" saltwater. And if you give this reel a low review cause it doesn't have automatic bail, I think you should be looking for a different hobby.
