Will this pick make my guitar sound like a Martin?

No this pick will not make another brand sound like a Martin. The weight of this pick, and I use medium weight strings, are an excellent combination for playing a flatpicking style on a guitar.

I want to know what I am buying, not just a name brand. What is the actual material this pick is made from?

You would be mostly paying for a brand name as this is very over priced. The material is similar (plastic) to other picks, but it is smoother and tapered to give it a cleaner glide over the strings without adding pick noise. I really like the pick and would order more if they were in the $8-$10 range instead of $20.
