Reliable, durable, proven effective, made in USA
I bought this can opener along with several others, when looking for a can opener that our daughter, who has a disability and coordination problems, could use to open her favorite soups. The EZ-DUZ-IT is a brand that came into being when the SwingAway company sent their manufacturing business to China (like many other companies) and China proceeded (as they usually do) to make the once-excellent can opener as cheaply as possible with near slave labor and compromise it with poor quality materials. Comparing it to the old original SwingAway: The EZ-DUZ-IT has a slightly longer crank handle than my old original SwingAway, but has less and more slick plastic padding on the handles. My original SwingAway has a rough surface on the plastic. It has the same sharp steel cutting blade and gears. The EZ-DUZ-IT is the best small manual can opener you can buy in the USA that is made in the USA. Take care of it (hand wash it with soap and water and dry it right away) and it will last for a long, long time. The EZ-DUZ-IT is reliable, proven, and built to last. It is the can opener you should keep in your drawer for when the fancy or foreign-made one, manual, electric or battery, balks or quits. I also bought several others for our daughter to try: The OXO and the Zyliss manual can openers, as well as the Hands Free Can Opener, a new-fangled automatic battery-operated can openers that her Occupational Therapist thought she might like to try. (http://www.amazon.com/Hands-free-Can-Opener-by-EasyComforts/dp/B008B7V8O6/) Review of the others: We discarded the Hands Free opener because, though it worked well, it removed the entire lid cutting below the seam and the can itself was left with a very sharp edge all around. We were concerned that with her coordination deficits, the sharp edge would be very dangerous. People who use power wheelchairs full-time have generally poor circulation and wounds, even to the upper body heal very slowly. We try to avoid every possible source of injury. The OXO has soft cushioning on the longer than usual (good leverage) handles and a wide soft crank handle that should be easy on our daughter's hands, but does not have the hardened carbon steel cutting blade that the EZ-DUZ-IT has. It has a stainless cutting wheel, which I doubt will cut as well over the long-run as the carbon steel blade. The Zyliss has a slightly smaller soft turn crank handle than the OXO and a locking mechanism, so she can open the can without having to hold the can opener tight to cut around the can. It has a magnet to hold onto the lid and a release handle to drop the lid into the trash can. I'm not sure whether our daughter will be able to operate all these functions. We haven't heard from her whether she has tried or likes the OXO or Zyliss better than her old SwingAway. We have kept the EZ-DUZ-IT as a replacement back-up when her older SwingAway becomes dull.

Better than OXO, old school & perfect
Works great! It was highly recommended after the oxo can opener. I had had the oxo can opener for years, so I ordered a replacement last year, but it was unusable. I didn’t want to gamble on getting another lemon from oxo, so I decided to try this one which was also recommended by Serious Eats. Excellent can opener. Easy to use. Old school & perfect, Highly recommend.

Best can opener ever
This is the only can opener you’ll need for the next 20+yrs. Old school construction and a sharp blade. Best can opener I’ve ever owned.

Great traditional can opener
I had this can opener years ago and loved it. Then my husband tried to use it on something that was not a can and broke it. Cans only people!! We had been making do with one of those fancy top-cutting can openers that someone gave us as a gift, and I hated it. Nothing beats a good, old-fashioned can opener that does its job! I finally broke down and ordered a replacement. I am so happy to have this again and love the added bonus that it is American made. Handle grips are comfortable, the crank is easy to turn, and the lid comes off cleanly. What more can you ask for?

Sturdy and effective
My Pampered Chef wore out after 20 years and this is a great replacement. If only it cut outside the can like the PC did, leaving no sharp edge.

High quality
This is the best can opener ever. It cuts the can open smoothly and the can opener itself is very durable. This is the only can opener I will ever buy again.

Finally, a good can opener!
This opener works so much better than the ones we tried from the local department/grocery stores. Now I know it wasn't me getting weaker. It was the poorly made openers.
