Probably overkill for exhaust spring, strong enough for a center stand spring. Exactly what I needed.

Right out of the package you can tell this is a quality tool. Solid & enough weight to let you know you got what you paid for. The handle has some diamond cut ridges that offer a little extra grip. The main shaft runs through the handle and is is welded to the handle in two spots. Both the top and bottom. Shaft size at the handle base is small enough that if you wrap your entire hand around the handle, the shaft will fit comfortably between your fingers as you grip. The shaft has a slight taper towards the end and has a slight bend before the hook. With this design, by rotating the handle 360 degrees, it will allows you to gab or set a spring from virtually any direction. Used this to help re-attached a large lift assist spring on a John Deere GT275 Mower. This spring hooks to the front of the frame and attaches just over 1/2 way back along the frame rail into a slot in a bar. Stretched the spring beyond the slot using wire and clamps. Then when in position, used this tool to safely move the spring over into the required position with minimal effort and my hands safely away from any possible damage. Later used it on a mowing deck idler spring that was not as big a challenge, yet again it hooked well and provided the needed leverage to safely remove and reattach the spring. Plan on logging this in my mental "what do I have available" short list for more possible tasks.........

This is heavy duty and the best I’ve ever used. Don’t have to worry about it bending. A must have if you need to remove heavy duty springs.

It is a very good tool would highly recommend I would like to see a USA made or Canadian made Chinese do not have very good metal or have not found out how to make anything metal as good as it even should be so it will break or bend long before it should

I needed a tool strong enough to stretch a heavy spring that connects a mower deck to my riding mower. Using vice-grips just wasn't working. Other spring hooks here on Amazon didn't look like they could cut the mustard, although I could be wrong since my assessment was based purely on pictures. My only concern with this one (based again from its picture) was the weld at the handle - will it hold when I throw my weight into it? After receiving the item, I was relieved to find that the 10-inch shaft is actually welded at TWO points in the handle - first at the point you can see in the picture, and second on the other side of the handle that is NOT visible in the picture. The shaft goes all the way through the hollow cylindrical handle. I'll try to add my own pic to show the second weld. After using this for its intended purpose, any fears of failing welds or hook losing its shape melted away. It also turned out to be useful for removing hard-to-get-to cotter pins. This will certainly be useful on future projects, large or small. Pros: 10-inch reach for hard-to-get places. Most others I saw are shorter. Cylindrical grip easy on the fingers during heavy pulling. Textured handle helps grip. Hook and handle strong enough to withstand throwing all my weight into it (disclaimer - but maybe not everyone's weight!). Feels like quality construction. Cons: Might cost more than some other spring hooks, but this one should last forever.
