Are these made in China now?

I just bought mine last year and the one I got is made in Indonesia. I’m happy with the quality for its price. I’m pretty sure these were only made in Indonesia or Korea.

what is the edge of fretboard like are the fret wires sharp (like a cheapie) or have they been smoothed out (like a good one) ?

I haven't noticed I won't have access to that particular model for 3 weeks to check. I feel like that's something I would've noticed though. I have an ec1000 fr and they're smoothed over. The build on the two are identical aside from set ups and the fret wires are rounded off on the ends. I do love both models though. With the right strings and some better pickups I'd pick them over my premium usa models.

what kind of strings are recommended for EC-1000 black?

10-46 is standard....... Brands are similar..... try a New brand each time until you find one you like.
