Does this typewriter 'ding' when you use the carriage return?

I don't know. It was very cheaply made and looked used with a pre typed test paper in the roller. I did not use it and returned it right away.

What is this typewriter made of? Is the casing all metal or is some of it plastic?

The casing is a plastic - a high quality thermoplastic polymer called ABS that is very durable. The inner parts are metal.

The letters only show partially or not at all. is it out of alignment? need new ribbon? we just got it today. has anyone had this problem?

I don't know about it out of alignment, but when we got it the typewriter it appeared to be used. It actually had a full sheet of paper in it with all kinds of at random letters on it as if someone tried to test it out and returned it. I saw this and returned it for a refund.
