Warm, tough, and an incredible value
I bought the Arcturus Military Wool Blanket for camping and car emergency use, and it has quickly become one of my most-used pieces of gear. This thing is seriously impressive for the price. The blanket is thick, heavy (about 4.5 lbs), and feels very high quality. The 80% wool blend keeps you surprisingly warm even when it’s damp or cold outside — a huge advantage over synthetic blankets. I’ve used it on chilly nights while camping and as an extra layer in my sleeping bag, and it performed beautifully. At 64" x 88", it’s large enough to wrap up comfortably or use as a ground cloth. The weave is tight and durable, and it looks like it will hold up for years of outdoor abuse. I also love that it’s machine washable — a big plus compared to many pure wool blankets that require special care.I was worried it might be itchy, but after one wash it softened up nicely. It still has that classic wool feel, but it’s very tolerable now. Honestly, for the money, this blanket offers outstanding value. It feels and performs like blankets that cost twice as much. Whether you’re building a bushcraft kit, stocking your car for emergencies, going camping, or just want a warm stadium or picnic blanket, this one checks all the boxes. Highly recommend! I’ll probably end up buying a second one.

Great value for great blanket
This blanket is a perfect size to use around the house, in the car, camping, wherever. It's big enough for one person to wrap up completely or two people to share over top. It has a good feel, nice and soft and heavy. When I first opened the package it did have a very strong diesel-like aroma. I know that's just the strong smell of lanolin and how my nose interprets it, but it is pretty powerful. After a gentle wash, the smell was mostly gone and it now just smells like a wool blanket. The color is a rich burnt orange that I love (less bright/vibrant than the pictures in the listing). This is not a $500 artisanal wool blanket but for the price you're getting a great wool blanket for a good value. I've seen some "wool" blankets in stores that are 90+ percent synthetic with some tiny fraction of wool for the same price or even more. This is the way to go. I'm ordering another one in a different color based on my experience so far. By the time I'm done I'll probably have one for everyone in the family. Update: bought the blue version. It had almost no smell at all but felt just as substantial. Washed and dried and it is comfy and warm. Also used some webbing and buckles I had to make a blanket roll/carrier for each. If Arcturus is reading these reviews I wish they did a bundled version that included one for a reasonable price instead of as a separate item.

Very Cozy
To start, it should be noted that this does have a chemical smell to start. It does fade with time and use. I think I’ve had mine just over a month, and it’s gone. It also is a little coarse, but it is wool, so surprise. Not unbearably so, and there’s also that contradictory, yet true, softness to it. It’s dense, thickly woven, on the heavy side, and pretty warm. Obviously, if you’re sleeping naked you won’t be as warm as if you pulled this over you to watch tv or fell asleep in sweatpants and a sweatshirt. For those of you who watch tv naked, the same applies. It’s marketed as an outdoorsy blanket,m and one of the pictures shows a guy outside with it draped over him while it’s snowing. Wool does retain a good portion of its warmth while wet, but I wouldn’t advise it if this is a vital portion of your camp bedding. It’s one thing if you’re at the cabin and want to drape it over you while around the fire and enjoying the first snow of the season and another all together if you’re carrying it out with your camp pad in the early spring or fall and expecting it to keep you warm. You’ll likely be a bit more miserable, if not at risk. I got it as my primary blanket for a prolonged stay with a friend/housesitting/dogsitting where I had to show up earlier than expected and they weren’t completely prepared. So I ordered some of my own bedding. No biggie. Especially since I ended up with this. Perfect as the primary blanket for a twin bed, like I was staying on. A very cozy sleep. The weight makes me think it’d be good for those with conditions where that helps them. If they were ok with the texture. Might want to have dad break it in on the couch for awhile though, to get the odor out. He’ll want his own. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Good quality, NORMAL wool scent, excellent value.
No odor whatsoever upon arrival. If you bury your nose in the blanket and REALLY REALLY sniff hard, you might catch a tiny bit of normal "wool scent." Every wool blanket I have ever encounterd has the same scent. No biggie. It is genuine wool and smells no different than a wool sweater. No massive shedding, either. Maybe I got lucky and got a "good one," but I doubt that. I really question the hysterical one-star ratings for this blanket, which almost caused me to not purchase it. They are doing Arcturus a big disservice with the ridiculous hysteria. (I am not affiliated with Arcturus, I am just a normal customer.) If one has a wool allergy of course this will not be a good buy for you, but your allergy or over-sensitive nose is not a reason to give a one-star rating. The blanket is medium heavy (4.5 pounds advertised) and very warm. It feels hefty and and comforting without pinning you down with sheer weight. Normal and typical "wool scratchy," which is not scratchy but rough compared to fabrics like cotton. Again, not abnormal. The edges are bound with quality stitching. I like this blanket so much I that have recommended it to family members, and the $45 price makes this a great value. This blanket is going to live in the back seat of my pickup as a passenger comfort blanket / survival blanket.

quality and comfort
This blanket is very warm and well made. I did find a couple of areas on the blanket where extra stitching was raised due to possibly sewing a small hole. I also washed the blanket a noticed small amounts of shedding. Overall for the price, you can't beat it.

Amazing Quality, Great Price
I purchased the blanket to use as an extra layer on my bed at night. The heft, at 4 lbs., was notable right out of the packaging as was the incredible way the material felt - smooth to the touch with no itchy, prickly feeling at all. My big concern was whether it would be too warm or not warm enough. Turns out it is perfect for my situation. We keep the home at about 65° at night and it’s fine for that. Today when I awoke it was warmer inside, 73°, since the weather outside is unseasonably warm and I was still not overheating during the night. On top of all of that the price is amazingly low, imo. If this were $100 more it would still be worth every penny.

Quality, Quality, Quality
I ordered three different colors of this blanket to match furniture, we use them as throws. These are solid, fairly thin but very heavy because the blanket fabric is very dense. One of my blankets did initially have a smell, from the natural lanolin. After letting it air and tumbling it for a few minutes in the dryer on no heat the smell was gone. They are very warm, breath well and I find that the weight seems to help me sleep better. After a bit of use the blankets soften up quite a bit, much smoother than the wool blankets I used as a child which must have been made with fire ants. Pay attention to the washing instructions if you need to wash. Hand wash and line dry is the best way to care for them should you need to launder them.

High quality wool blanket
First, you can ignore the negative reviews. They are clearly written by people who don't know enough about wool blankets. This blanket did not have a 'chemical' smell. It smelled like every other high quality wool blanket I've ever had. If the smell bothers you, set it outside in the sun for a few hours. (It fades in a few days anyway.) I didn't notice any smell until I put it up against my nose. My wife, who is much more sensitive to odors, did not notice or complain about it. The odor is not unpleasant and its absence would be an indicator of an inferior wool product. DO NOT wash the blanket!! Those who complain about it shedding after they washed it are clueless. A high quality wool blanket should be dry cleaned, not run through a normal washing machine! This blanket is triple washed before shipping, so no washing is needed. If used correctly, it should be between the sheets and a bedspread or comforter, which means it won't need cleaning for years. (That's why beds have sheets, so blankets don't need to be cleaned often.) The weave is tight and it is nicely hemmed. The hem could be a little tighter, but what it has is perfectly acceptable. As long as the blanket is not mistreated (as in machine washed instead of dry cleaned), it should give years of comfort and warmth. I bought the charcoal blanket and love the color. I would definitely buy one again.
