Mostly correct. The unit triggers the PTT on the output side when any sound is emitted from the SPKR of the receiver - that includes noise IF the receiver is not configured with CTCSS or DCS on the input. You definitely want CTCSS or DCS on the receiver to avoid false triggering.

Will this work buy programming a handheld radio to a set frequency to transmit on a repeater ?

I returned two of those and will never buy again. It just work quite right.

SR328 is not for crossband. Please choose SR-628 if you need Crossband
