Tamarind sauce is a critical ingredient in many Thai foods, including the famous Pad Thai. Tamarind sauce is commonly used in various northern Thai dishes as a souring agent. Tamarind is also used in the manufacturing of ketchups, sauces--Chinese, Worcestershire, Barbecue, etc. Tamarind is also very effective as a natural preservative and marinade. Usually tamarind paste is mixed with water and strained, the resulting tamarind juice being what's used. This product is a concentrated form of tamarind juice (and very convenient to use because it removes the need for mixing & straining). I just put my entire finger in this stuff and it has an amazing flavour. Remember, this is one of the secret ingredients in Worcestershire Sauce. Once you taste it, it becomes obvious that this would go great on steaks with some A1 Sauce or similar.

Definitely tamarind
It's condensed-down tamarind. Important NOTE: This has ZERO SUGAR in it. NONE. This is important to know because it tastes really strong (tart, almost bitter) on its own. You'll have to use sugar or sugar substitute with it in drinks or food. I used it with margarita mix and no sugar, and it was weird. I had to pre-sweeten the concentrate, and THEN add it to margaritas to make it taste like the Tamarind Margarita at the Thai place I frequent. I wish I had a recipe, but I did it off-the-cuff.

Needed Tamarind Concentrate for a recipe
I wasn't sure what this was when I saw it for a pork tenderloin recipe I wanted to make. I couldn't find it in my local grocery store and didn't feel like driving 20 miles to another grocery store---so I took a risk and ordered from amazon. It came quickly and was great in the marinade.

NON-Natural! Includes sodium metabisulfite!
Seller states the Ingredients as: No preservatives, artificial flavor or color. All Natural. The actual Ingredients from the product packaging state: Tamarind, water, sodium metabisulfite as preservative. Sodium metabisulfite is an inorganic compound of chemical formula Na2S2O5. It may cause allergic reactions in those who are sensitive to sulfites, including respiratory reactions in asthmatics, anaphylaxis and other allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. I'm returning this item. DO NOT TRUST THIS SELLER!

Would Have loved to have actually Used it.
I loved it was exactly what I was needed. Unfortunately after I received it and opened the box the lid of the container was broken. I thought that's ok just as long the seal isn't broken. Unfortunately that too was broken. It was poorly packaged. I think I will just try harder to find it in a store.

Authentic and easy to use.
This is so easy to use in any recipe that calls for tamarind that I know of. If you like tamarind, give this concentrate a try. Easy, flavorful, authentic. I'm sure you'll like it.
