Primary Phonics is a systematic, phonics-based early reading program. This series builds essential literacy skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension. Primary Phonics is comprised of 5 sets of storybooks, coordinating workbooks, reference books, teacher s manuals, and an audio story CD for students in grades K-2. The extension More Primary Phonics allows for additional practice with two more sets of storybooks and workbook exercises.Primary Phonics also includes a comprehension component called Thinking about Mac and Tab. The comprehension workbooks follow the same phonetic patterns as the coordinating workbooks and storybooks. The 147 wh- 148 question words (who, what, why, etc.) are introduced as sight words, as students independently work through the series. Students learn to sequence, recognize story elements, use context clues, and refer to storybook pages, among other skills. Each workbook corresponds to a set of Primary Phonics storybooks 1-5.Story Review: Best readers since McGuffy - This series is based on incremental learning and reviews previous lessons within the new lesson. Builds great confidence. My granddaughter was on set 3 when she was 4 years old. Her kindergarten teacher said she has never had a kindergartener who has her level of reading and writing skills. Start with the basics in letter recognition and short vowels sounds then introduce this series at the series first level and your kinder will have a joy of reading. Review: Works for my son who has had a lot of difficulty - My son has had a hard time with reading and these books have been a God-send. My son's Montessori uses these so I got a set for home. They go gradually and they challenge just enough. We are on the third set now and he's having so many wins with these books that he looks forward to reading now. Really, I'm very happy with these sets.

The BEST in phonics
In 30 years of using this system to help children learn to read I have never found another as effective as this one. Not even close. These EPS readers and workbooks introduce phonics concepts in graduated steps. The progression is logical and truly consistent with plenty of practice. This third set of readers and the workbook that goes with it introduce blends and consonant digraphs. That allows for a more creative vocabulary than the first two sets of readers use and the children really enjoy the stories.

Love love love this books My son is able to ...
Love love love this books My son is able to read on his own and he is recognizing more sight words and is able to decode most of the words. And I also love that they use rhyming words in the stories and use those as clues to help him.

Great Beginner Books
Three of my four kids (the last is still too young for them) has learned to read using these books and the accompanying workbooks. It is a great set. It is very straightforward with how it presents sequentially more difficult words and sentence structure. The illustrations are cute and the story lines pleasant and simple. There is nothing to distract the new reader from concentrating on the task of reading.
