Morcheeba – Charango / WEA Audio CD 2002 / 0927-46802-2 UPC 809274680228 /// Charango is the fourth studio album by the British group Morcheeba, released in the first week of July 2002 through Warner Bros. Records. It also appeared as a limited edition 2-CD version with a second CD containing instrumental versions of all the tracks. The album included a number of guest-appearances ranging from the singer Kurt Wagner, rapper Slick Rick, singer Miriam Stockley and bass guitar player Pino Palladino. The album became one of the most successful ones for the band, reaching the top ten in the UK charts. The Japanese version includes a bonus track, "I'd Rather Kill Us (Than Watch You Leave)", also present on the "Way Beyond" single. The only song I didn't like is "Women Lose Weight" f/Slick Rick. I like Rick The Ruler, but this song seems a lil ignorant. I was trying to pick up the abstract aspect of it, but uhhhh.... NO. All the other tracks I loved as much as I love "Slow Down". A must have if you need to mellow out or get all artsy-fartsy. Highly recommend. Review: Good music but seller never shipped it! - This music is exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, the seller never got around to shipping it, so I got a full refund from desertcart. I later bought the CD from another desertcart seller. % stars for the music though.

Nonchalant, relaxing, humourous - excellent
Morcheeba is evolving slowly from one album to the other, by light touches, absorbing current trends without losing their identity. It is once again the case with this release. While the first radio friendly single "Otherwise", the catchy and upbeat "Women lose weight" (nice contrast between Slick Rick rap and Skye voice but weird lyrics) or the beautiful "Aqualung" are in direct continuity with "Fragments of freedom", other tracks are looking in the electro lounge direction, keeping an organic feel though. "Slow down" with its hypnotic beat, the Chris Rea like guitar solo and Skye laid back vocals is a good example. So are "Undress me now" or "Way beyond". "Sao Paulo" is an exotic and summery track. "Charango" is almost instrumental with only some rap lines thrown in. It sounds like a future chill out/post-clubbing hit to me. "What New York couples fight about" is one of my favourites. It is a precious and hypnotic trip hop track. The combination of Kurt Wagner's evocative lead vocals and Skye's breathy backing ones is working great and make this song special. It reminds me of "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" soundtrack. I have not heard anything from Lambshop but I might in the future. "Get along" and the atmospheric "Public display of affection" have Morcheeba first albums tranquility and nonchalance. The album closes on a cinematic instrumental "The great London traffic Waden massacre". This is an album for those who are looking for quiet, soft, relaxing music and soothing vocals. It is the type of music who will insinuate in your head without being noticed. So throw away the shoes, stretch that aching back and take a deep breath, it's time for a break... Note: There is a limited edition of the album with a bonus CD containing instrumentals of the 12 album tracks. The instrumentals are exactly the repetition of what you already have on disc one minus the vocals (and two original tracks are already instrumentals). Worth it if you're a Morcheeba collector or if you enjoy instrumental background music.

magical
OK folks this album gets 5 stars. the songs are unique gems with unexpected turns. This album has been stored in my soul since i first heard it in 2005 and it has kept its promise of being a work of art.

Fairly good, uneven, some weird musical decisions
There is some choice 'cheeba here, particularly the first three tunes and "Public displays of Affection," which are what get this 3 stars from me. Unfortunately, Morcheeba made the decision to bring in several ringers, whose results take this exemplary trip-hop band very far away from from its best form. Really, does a song like "What New York Couples Fight About" fit into this musical context? It's way too theatrical. Embarrassing to have on the auto CD player. No groove, and an enervated Bryan Ferry wannabe lead vocalist usurping Sky's seat. Probably the worst offender is "Women Lose Weight" which actually makes me laugh through the insouciance of Slick Rick, but is really not PC at all. ;) This CD shows little staying power, and is not even close to Big Calm in consistency. I hope Morcheeba cuts back on the guest vocalist habit, because in all cases it's been tried, the experiment's a failure.

Just as good as the second CD.
I listened to this CD yesterday morning and I have to say that I liked it. It's relaxing, humorous, and nonchalant. The first song "Slow Down" I imagine myself wearing a white cotton dress lying on a couch relaxing, not letting anything bother me. That is how this song is. Soothing.

Rien à dire sur le prix, délai et emballage ! Un disque dans la ligné des précédents avec une musique remarquable et des textes riches !

Album ricco di pezzi memorabili. Tra i miei preferiti Otherwise, Aqualung e Way beyond.
