When you depress the cue lever, does the tonearm gently descend onto the record or drop like a rock?

I’d say about halfway between a rock and a feather. But seriously, it seems to work very well, and I think most people would be as happy as I am with this turntable. If you are enticed by the specs (and I think you should be) you should go ahead and go for it—no buyer’s remorse here!

Is the 100C a big step-down from the 1200GR?

In terms of the drive system, the marketing specs make them look near identical. The big difference is that the 1200 is for DJ use, so it has pitch controls - very different use case than the 1500 and 100 models, which are for home audio use. The 100 is a step down from the 1500 in that it has no preamp built in, but if you have your own, who needs it? I will say that the 100C also has a pretty terrible stylus on it, but I used the savings over the 1500 to buy a VM95ML replacement stylus and could not be happier with the outcome.

Does the tonearm lift bar on your unit stay put when lifted or does it drop a few mm by itself?

The lift bar on my turntable always stays a few mm down from the topmost position.

I'm not sure because I've been using it in the US and the US voltage is 110 volts
