The price, the quality, the fit, all were exceptional; I don't know if the same applies in the future but as of July 2026 this is a great little item! I am using it to mount my cell phone clamp on top of my goose-neck tripod stand (you have to do your homework and check the description/thread size to ensure it'll work for you). This little guy screwed perfectly on both ends (the stand and the cell phone mount-clamp). The tripod cell phone stand I recently purchased had a goose-neck cell phone mount but for precise viewing angle I had to manipulate the goose-neck to achieve the right viewing position--excessive twisting and bending the goose-neck will crack/weaken the neck's metal core, so I modified the stand apparatus by adding this "SmallRig" ballhead between the neck and the clamp for the finer viewing angle/ adjustments. Other than the height and a few mild bends of the neck, all other adjustments are via the ballhead. This little item is small enough, light enough, and tough enough for my purpose. I recommend this item for this principle use. I'll update on the item's durability as I go.

SmallRig made a wonderful tripod (SmallRig VT-20 Aluminum Mini Tripod - which I absolutely love), and I wanted to have an additional "ball mount". I thought it would be the same as the ball mount on the tripod, since this was the only "model" ball head that was made by SmallRig, but it's smaller, and just doesn't have the same quality feel as the one that came on the tripod. While it does the job, I was hoping for a bit better quality. They are priced low enough to offset my concern.

Just a (big deal) FIY, of which I thought it pertinent to inform y'all. Fortunately, I don't need hot shoe mounts. I didn't pay attention to the title (til just now when I received them) because I was too busy looking at the item itself to meet my needs. That said, I am extremely happy with these mounts and can't wait to use them! They are solid metal (with the exception of the locking handle), the ball joint moves freely and smoothly, and they lock very well. The screws are very smooth. High quality machining. Very sturdy mounts and the shoe comes off for regular mounting on a tripod! The mounts are packed very well and they're separated in the packing roll so as not to scratch each other in the box. They come with two allen wrenches and two extra screws in little resealable bag that seems to be made of a Tyvek like material, so it'll be plenty durable for years to come! I'm not a professional photographer, but I know quality when I see it!! 🙂🙂 You won't be disappointed! I highly recommend!!!!

These mounts are just ok and nothing special. The thumbscrew was too short for my needs, but the package included a couple of hex set-screws. Unfortunately, the threads on the thumbscrew are M6 and the threads on the set-screws are 1/4-20 so I am not sure why they bothered. SmallRig used to pay attention to details. I had to hunt down my own M6 screw.

I love thee ballheads. They are VERY good quality, small (which is good) but surprisingly sturdy. Once you tighten the knob, the ball will not move. One thing I wish was improved is the length and size of the "wing" used to tighten the head. It's a bit too small and it makes it hard to operate. Other than that I am extremely happy. I also like that it comes with a lot of extra bits.
