Quality little Camera Review Updated
After reading many reviews I didn't know which one to go with as there are so many cameras out there so I ended up going with this one and very pleased I did this suits my needs there is only thing I wish i could do with this and is a little disappointment and maybe I've not found the function as yet is to turn the volume up on the camera so if I wanted a 2 way chat I could actually hear the person from the camera and if there was an intruder you would have to shout at top of your voice for them to hear you but other than that this is a quality little peice of kit and has the options of adding more I have another one of these on order as it does the job really well and I'm impressed with the picture with clear audio and you can adjust the settings you can either have it pan at certain times or all day with 360 degrees. The night vision is fantastic and picks up motion and gives you feedback with time stamps. I don't have a memory card as yet but have 2 on order this will still save thumbnails to the app with 6 sec videos without having to sign up to the cloud there are cloud packages you can buy but for now I am happy with just using the free one. I have uploaded some pics this fits perfect on my rear speaker with little noise as it pans that don't bother me too much I can set this to off if need be and can turn the light off from the front of the camera through the settings. There are so many features that you can tweak to your suitability I've had to adjust the sensitivity off motion detection as I keep getting notifications but when I look at the highlights there's nothing there (nothing paranormal haha) it's most possibly a fly that keeps setting this off. Overall I'm really pleased with this product it does all the neccesary things you need it takes about 5 mins to set up with downloading the App included very easy to set up and use. I hope this review helps.

First class camera with one downside.
This camera is of excellent quality and is very easy to set up. It has very good quality image both in daytime and night time viewing conditions with daytime view being in full colour and night viewing using the in built infra red LEDs giving a black & white image but still of good quality even in complete darkness. The camera can be viewed on any phone or tablet using the Android or Iphone system and can even be viewed on a Windows computer with the PC app which is a great bonus which is not available with many similar cameras. The camera has movement detection so it can follow a subject anywhere within its field of view and its also great as a baby monitor with 2 way audio and its ability to detect and trigger on a loud noise such as a baby crying. The app is very good quality, very stable and works brilliantly. All in all a very good buy especially as I had mine on an Amazon deal with a 25% saving! However, there is one downside in that this camera does not have a standard tripod mount fixing unlike my other cameras. I purchased this to set up in a bedroom window and to look down on my parking space below. My old camera it replaced had a tripod mount so it was easy to get the correct downwards angle to view my parking area perfectly. However, this camera does not so when its mounted on a flat surface, does not have sufficient movement in the downwards direction to be able to see the parking area on my driveway as my other camera could. I am going to try and make a small mounting base with a downward slope to fit the camera on so it can point down sufficiently to be able to view the area I want to protect. If not, it will be returned to Amazon as unsuitable for my needs within a few days. Shame because with the simple addition of a tripod mount as all my other IP cameras have, it would have been perfect!

Overall this is a good camera.....
I’ve had the 1080p version of this camera for a couple of weeks now so thought it was time to give a review. I’ve not used the intercom, baby crying alerts or the cloud storage so can’t comment on those functions. I have installed a 64Gb card, which works absolutely fine. I have the camera set up on the inside of a first floor window looking down/out over my driveway. First things first, this arrangement will render the infrared night vision useless as the IR LEDs reflect off the glass and create glare on the video/images. I’ve disabled this as the area outside my house is well lit from streetlights. The camera does enter a night mode of sorts as the live feedback turns black and white which is sufficient to see movement etc. One thing to add is that the IR night vision works well in areas that are completely dark. If you’ve got a light source creeping in from somewhere it will affect it. I’ve also disabled the LED lights on the front so that these aren’t reflected back. The only issue I encountered with my particular setup is that despite the cameras having 115 degrees of vertical rotation, there is limited down movement so I have had to angle the entire camera downwards so that it points in the correct direction. This looks a little strange sat on top of a box but works fine. The slight issue here is that as the camera pans left and right it does so in an upwardly curved manner but that is just because of my set up and not in any way a fault. The majority of the vertical rotation is upwards and I suspect this may be to allow more vertical range when mounting the camera to a ceiling rather than sat on the edge of a worktop. I will eventually try to mount the camera upside down somehow to achieve better viewing angles but comparing this to another cheap IP camera I once had the lower vertical range was considerably better on the other model. Aesthetically the camera is very nice to look at and is in no way obtrusive given its diminutive size. The motors controlling motion tracking are reasonably quiet, certainly not loud enough to disturb sleep if placed in a bedroom. When switched off via the app, the lens of the camera moves upwards into the housing to ensure privacy. It’s a nice feature but not exactly a deal winner. With regards to the app, it is almost excellent. Having found a competitors app beyond awful and read numerous bad reviews of other camera apps it’s surprisingly good and very easy to use. The only thing that would have made it excellent would have been the facility to download ‘entire clips’ instead of the just the 10 second ‘alert clip’. Yi Tech Support told me the best way to get entire clips was to remove the SD card and download on another device, not exactly the most helpful response and not particularly practical if the camera is mounted on the ceiling, but when the app allows you to download an alert clips it seems strange why it’s not possible to save an entire clip via the app. It sounds like an afterthought to me or perhaps a deliberate intention to get customers to subscribe to the cloud.... Now the features; Motion detection is responsive but as others have commented it is incredibly sensitive even on the lowest setting. I’ve disabled audible notifications on my phone because I was receiving alerts to everything from individual raindrops rolling down the window to a small bird flying past. I think it also started recording a tree blowing in the wind some 20m away. It’s still worth having the motion detection enabled as the moment something dodgy happens it’s worth knowing about it when it happens and not when you eventually find time to look through the alerts. The motion tracking is a nice feature but at night it activates slowly and turns towards something that might have already passed or car headlights in the distance. That being said it’s nice to have as if motion happens outside of one of your preset bookmarks at least the camera will move towards the motion, such as watching a delivery driver. Not many similarly priced cameras have this so it is a worthwhile addition. I’ve tried the cruise function but as others have commented it’s pretty much useless as it slowly rotates through its entire horizontal range which in my case would mean ‘watching’ my walls (and ceiling due to being set up on an angle) and then the inside of the house rather than just what I want it to observe outside. An app update that would allow an option to cruise through the customer set bookmarks would be a great addition to utilise this function better. With regards to the advertised ‘Crystal Clear HD’ images I’m afraid I’m not as satisfied as other reviewers. The quality is sufficient but Yi’s claims you can zoom in 4 times and see even the smallest details in my opinion is a slight exaggeration. If I had the 720p model then I would say the image quality is good but having paid the extra money for the 1080p version I personally think it should be better. I have shared numerous emails with Yi Technical Support regarding this and even sent them an image to review (at their request) but their continued response is that the image details confirm it’s a 1080p image and that the quality in their opinion, ‘looks OK’. Typical sales pitch? During this interaction I requested a 720p version be sent to me to compare the image quality to simply be told they no longer manufacture the 720p version. I find this difficult to believe as they’re still selling it both independently and via online sellers. I suspect it was just an excuse to close the discussion. Again, as others have commented, the Yi Technical Support responses are short and not particularly proactive. In conclusion if I was asked if I would recommend this camera I would say yes because despite my issues with image quality and a few functionality issues with the app (being able to download an entire clip and cruising through bookmarks) it is a good camera. The app alone is good enough to sway the decision against another manufacturer and the average person buying this to keep an eye on things would be more than happy with it. My only advice would be it might be worth saving your money and buying the 720p version instead of the 1080p version but other than that it’s definitely worth buying.

Grat potential camera but bad support.
This little camera has some great features which are not covered in thier information. I have rated them in importance to my needs first. 1) This can run of a usb power pack for a long time so far I have run it for 4 hours and only used 15% of the battery. 2) it has motion tracking, so it follows a person, as soon as they get to the edge of the screen it moves them back into frame. 3) You can store presets and positions of the camera, which with a single click will move to a recorded position. 4) It has a pin security option so with our the pin number, no one can see the image. 5) It works across all platforms. 6) It can run in standard or HD or auto mode for image quality. Now what would I improve about this camera. 1) On zooming close up it looses clarity, and becomes slightly rough around the edges. 2) I would increase the vertical degrees from 110 to 160, this would enable you to look down further, this can be restrictive if positioned high. 3) I would have the camera wifi connection be able to be selected after camera is configured so you can make it more portable for use. A tweak in the firmware would make this happen. 4) I would give the option of being able to attach this to a tripod rather than just the small plastic fixing plate given both would be better. 5) to improve the speed of communication when trying to get a resolution to issues from the company. This is why my star rating is low for the above 5 issues. Having said all of the above, it is the most feature rich camera at this price point.

Superb, for the money.
For the money, this is a fantastic dome camera. I got this the next day, after ordering from Amazon, and had it up and running in 15 minutes. I plugged into my PC, downloaded the PC app from YI's website, installed and it, found the camera, you then get a scan code appear on your PC screen so you just hold the camera upto your screen, wait for a conformation voice from the camera, add your router settings, and you are good to go. From the off, the camera works great. I love the ability of dome cameras to move left, right, up and down - no zoom, though. You need to power it from a standard USB phone charger socket. I popped in a SDCard, so I can record at the touch of a button. You can then download videos from the camera to your PC, or record to a directory on your PC. For Night vision, I have dropped a star because it's pretty-much useless when looking out of a window. Even with a nice clean polished window, the camera just gets confused with the reflective surface and doesn't work properly. Turning off the infrared lights helps for a bit, but in pitch darkness it's useless. Good inside the home, but not for looking out of a window. Picture quality has also taken a star off because even though it's 1080p, it still looks a bit blocky and pixelated, but enough to put me off using it. In good sunlight it's good enough for what it does. Overall, a decent camera for the money. But, if like me, you want a security camera that can has night vision then you are better off with a outside-only camera.

Indoor Wifi Camera
These are good quality and easy to setup. I bought 3 to provide some security for when I work away - no it won't stop someone breaking in to my home, but hopefully if they do, they get to spend plenty of time in one of her majesty's hotels.... I have the HD version, the picture quality is good, the motion tracking is maybe too sensitive - you can adjust this, I have yet to reduce mine, as car headlamps create shadows on the walls, the camera records this, i would rather that, than it miss something important. You can switch the camera's off when you are home to stop unwanted motion detection. They require a micro SD card, class 10 minimum and no more than 32GB storage capacity, any bigger and you may get issues with compatibility. The other option is Cloud Storage, you get one month free then there are 3 options. I went for the "Upto 5 camera's with motion tracking and 15 days", which means you can have up to 5 camera's on one account, it is only motion tracking and store the images for 15 days then overwrites them. This cost 90 Euros, at this present time that is just under £79/annum. The SD storage is great, but if your house is broken into and they take your camera(s), you have no proof, so seriously consider the cloud storage (3 camera's cost £117 then 1 years cloud storage subscription (approx £79). We shouldn't have to go to these lengths to protect our homes, but unfortunately not everyone is honest.

Fantastic Value! Great Quality!
Absolutely fantastic little device. Not only is the camera very good, but the software is excellent too. very reliable, easy to set up and the app is a joy to use, with a huge amount of options for scheduling motion detect and viewing remotely. It is extremely responsive. I have it on a corner back wall showing all of the room, and pointing towards an outside window on the opposite wall. It picks up cars moving outside, the postman walking past and a fly at night using night vision flying past the lens. Despite the relatively low price, the software has really been developed well, with all of the features you need. There are some chargeable cloud storage options available which actually are very good value for money, but even without these options I have several days worth of clips held. There is even remote motion available to move the camera around 360 degrees!

Nice little IPCamera but tied to the YI ecosystem
Bought one of these in the Amazon Spring Sale to see what it's like. Very easy to set up with clear spoken instructions from the camera itself. A revelation compared to other IPCameras I've bought in the past. Good Android app to control the camera and view the real-time video. Motion detection works well and even if you exit the app, you still get audible alerts on the phone and if you select the alert it opens a viewing window. A small niggle here is that it doesn't automatically show the video associated with the alert, you have to select the alerts tab and then select the alert from a list to view it. Out of the box you can't view the video associated with the detected movement unless you insert a microSD card which is an extra cost. I assume that part of the software runs in the background on the phone to be able to handle the alerts. I don't know what affect this would have on phone battery life. There doesn't appear to be an option to use email to send alerts instead. The video shown is corrected for lens distortion and this seems to work well with straight lines being straight and not curved as on other cameras that use a spherical lens to get a wide field of view. As an alternative to using a microSD card, you can purchase a subscription to store the video in the YI cloud and play it back from there. This is currently starts at 20.00€ for a year for a single camera and the data is kept for 7 days before being overwritten. There is also a 5 camera subscription available and others where the data is kept for 15 and 30 days before being overwritten. You can download video from the cloud if you want to keep it permanently. There is a 30 day free trial available. So far so good, but the major problem for me, is that you can't use the camera outside the YI ecosystem. I use Blue Iris to control and view all my IPCams from different manufacturers (including webcams) from one platform. I can't do this with this IPCam as the necessary functionality is not included in the camera firmware. Also be aware that the IPCam will use a lot of upstream bandwidth (1Mbps for 1080p - their figures) to upload the video to the cloud, so you'll probably need a fibre internet connection as ADSL doesn't usually support upload speeds this fast. So to sum up, a nice little compact camera (smaller than all the IPCams I've bought previously) with good Android phone app support (I can't comment on the iPhone app). If you just use the micro SDcard option (I used a 64GB card) you can save the subscription fee. Probably no good if you already have IPCameras that you monitor from an app such as Blue Iris. There are hacks out there to mod the camera firmware to provide support for other protocols but probably not worth the effort as you can buy other IPCams with this support for around the same price.
