Quickly becoming a Favorite Garden Tool
A friend showed me this tool, and told me how much she liked it. I have to agree. It is very handy for digging out weeds, planing a few flowers, digging out a small trench, etc. Good quality, light weight. This is one I won't loan out. They'll have to get their own. Good thing they are very affordable.

GREAT quality, lightweight, strong
First class digging tool. I used it to pry up a long row of pavers. Really well made and balanced, lightweight, high quality, good price. Perfect tool for garden tasks too much for a simple garden spade.

You can't kill a BUNCH of zombies with it, but probably a few...
These are handy garden tools. I chose this one because the head/blade was a bit heavier than the usual bit of stamped sheet metal, and the plastic/composite-type handle seemed like it would be durable. Both assumptions turned out to be correct, and I'm fairly happy w/the purchase. My only criticism would be that the blade isn't particularly sharp: if fine if you're digging into soft/medium soil, but if you're hacking into hard/packed dirt, it might not provide enough oomph, though I suppose you could sharpen the tip of the blade if you wanted to go to the trouble. -Scott :-)

broad cutting head
I gave this little tool 5 stars because it is well made, but I would change a few things. The scoup shaped head 4 in long widest point is 3 in cutting end is 2" pick end is 3 3/4 " long and 3/4" thick. Total head length is 9 7/8". Total handle length is 14 1/2" long from head is 12 1/2". The cutting part of head is not sharp. I used a angle grinder and put an edge on it. Seems to have good metal. I would like about 2 more inches in the handle, but may be fine for most.

Not sharp enough
This pickaxe is not sharp at all. I just started using it, to dig out a rock and cliche filled garden plot, and the tip is so dull that it sometimes seems to be just compressing the caliche further and not tearing through it or breaking it up.

Everyone should have two!
This is the best small digging instrument ever made. It's great for planting, transplanting, digging for gold, or looking for the Devil. If you need a hole in the earth, this will do it for you. You will enjoy using it so much, you will need one for each hand.

Great until it broke after about 2 hours of use
I loved this tool because it's light and worked great while it lasted. The only problem is that it broke after being used for about 2 hours (at the most). See the picture for clarification. I returned it for a replacement, but the replacement had the exact same problem. In case anyone from "The Ames Companies" actually reads these reviews: I would gladly pay twice as much for this tool, if you could figure out a way to make the tool not fall apart after only a couple hours of use.

Good quality tool.
My favorite new yard tool. Handle easy to grip. Weight of head good for digging through hard compact dirt, small roots or rocky soil. Perfect for removing dirt around sprinkler heads for repair.
