![Sledge Hammer!: Series 1 [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71qRPX0bzGL._AC_SL3840_.jpg)

All 22 episodes of the 1980s comedy cop series starring David Rasche as the eponymous trigger-happy police detective with a preference for shooting first and asking questions later. Episodes are: 'Pilot', 'Hammer Gets Nailed', 'Witless', 'They Shoot Hammers Don't They?', 'Dori Day Afternoon', 'To Sledge With Love', 'All Shook Up', 'Over My Dead Bodyguard', 'Magnum Farce', 'If I Had a Little Hammer', 'To Live and Die on TV', 'Miss of the Spider Woman', 'The Old Man and the Sledge', 'State of Sledge', 'Haven't Gun Will Travel', 'The Color of Hammer', 'Brother Can You Spare a Crime?', 'Desperately Seeking Dori', 'Sledgepoo', 'Comrade Hammer', 'Jagged Sledge' and 'The Spa Who Loved Me'. Review: 5 stars - SLEDGE HAMMER! is highly recommended for those of us who like shows filled with wackiness, sarcasm, violence, and nihilism. It is a splendid alternative to more usual (and bland) sitcoms. In spite of the lunacy inherent in the show, the characters and the scripts make it quite believable and entertaining. Alan Spencer did a fantastic job in his choice of actors: Dave Rasche (Sledge Hammer), Anne-Marie Martin (Dori Doreau), and Harrison Page (Captain Trunk). His guest actors are also fun to watch. Overall, well-executed story concepts and character development. Review: That bloke's a nutter!! - I remember watching Sledgehammer as a teenager when it was on late at night on ITV in the 90's (I think!) If you are looking for a daft comedy show....... then look no further than Sledge! The streets would be a lot safer if every town had a cop like Sledgehammer. LOL Trust me......I know what I'm saying!

Yoghurt eating creeps Beware!
Having heard about Sledge Hammer from my family (oddly enough while watching the sentinel!) I was a little curious towards this show, I shouldn't have worried though because this show rocks. Hammer is a slightly crazed yet strangely loveable cop who enjoys violence, shooting at jaywalkers and has spare grenades in his sports jacket. the show is a bit cheesy in parts with OTT acting but thankfully no laugh tracks are on this set (being removed because the creator finds them offensive!) in short Sledge Hammer is a really funny cop spoof rivalling naked gun and has possibly the best siege resolution ever. Lone sniper on a roof+Empty Building+Sledge Hammers Bazooka= funniest bit ever! May not be to everyones taste though but if you like your comedy gloriously cheesy then this is right up your alley

"Dirty Harry" done as a comedy . . .
. . . that's all you should need to hear about this series to get an inkling of how good it is. But if it isn't, here's some more stuff to make you want to buy it: excellent scripts, perfect casting, great guest stars, tributes to all kinds of pop culture phenomena, mockery of all kinds of politics, general insanity, bad puns, over-the-top characters, believable and sympathetic characters, hilarious situations, and one-liners and catchphrases that can be used by anyone, anywhere. Sheer. Comic. Genius. As any Hammer-Head (what fans of the show call themselves) will attest at great length. But I'm not writing this review for the Hammer-Heads. We've probably already all got this set by now. This review is to get others onto our "Sledge Hammer!" bandwagon. Yes, I'm a self-avowed Hammer-Head. And I'm fairly certain you will be, too, when you buy this. You will note that I say "when," not "if." I'm THAT confident you'll be intrigued by the reviews and want to own this set. And you will not be disappointed, especially at this price! Oh, and don't forget there's a Season 2!

2/3 cheesy cop show, 1/3 pant-wetting hilarious
I was always a bit weary of buying this on dvd, because although I could rememeber the theme tune and general concept, I couldnt remmeber if actually liked it when I was younger. The result is a mixed bag and anyone considering buying this should have a good think. David Rasche is terrific as the Dirty Harry-like who loves excessive force and violence, although he never actually kills any criminals in the show. The funniest moments include Hammer's blowing-up-building-to-nail-sniper strategy and his one liners; when asked if he's using a silencer - "its my own design, I call it a loudener". Harrison Page I feel sorry for because his portrayal of Capt Trunk has been since done to death (the shouting black polica captain act with a constant disdain of his detectives). Ann-Marie Martin is also likeable as Hammer's rational partner, Dori Dorreau. The problem with this series now is that it's dated terribly and it feels as though you have to sit through 20 minutes of corny cop show to see five or ten minutes of absolute comedy genius which is why I can only say three stars for it as some episodes are pretty awful, "If I had a Little Hammer" springing to mind. What might be the problem is that there are so many spoofs now that you forget this was original for its time - if you can get past that, then you'll enjoy this boxset.

Brilliant Magnum Opus! ;o) Well, Series 1 anyway
First series where we are introduced to Inspector Sledge Hammer, his partner (his magnum) and his other partner Detective Dori Doreau. Captain Trunk, Sledge's boss, is always shouting "Hammer! In my office now!!!" and guzzling Pepto-Bismol for his ulcer. Hammer is, however, cool as a cucumber and psychopathic to boot. A great 80's TV show brought to DVD. Subtitles provided along with lots of laughs. Great price too! Go on, you know you want it! Trust me, I know what I'm, doing! ;o)

Sledge Hammer owns a 45 cal gun , but he goes Dirty Harry one better ; his is chrome plated , and he talks to it. He is Law and Order personified ; he's into death sentences for traffic infractions. Very funny ; I recommend all of the seasons which are available.

SLEDGE HAMMER! was a show that I wasn't interested in back in the late 80s (yes, I'm old enough to remember!). Not knowing any better, I was more into the normal, fluffy sitcom stuff of the time. Don't get me wrong, I still have a nostalgic remembrance of shows I loved as a kid, but I now appreciate the waaaay before it's time appeal of a show like SLEDGE HAMMER! Lacking a laugh track (all the better for it), this show about a Neanderthal, skewed version of Inspector Dirty Harry named Inspector Sledge Hammer (played to iconic perfection by David Rasche) is, in my opinion, one of the most original TV series ever! Only running for 2 seasons, the show should have definitely lived a longer life. Set obviously in some unnamed fictional West Coast city (reminiscent of San Francisco), the show is a combinination of sharp satire and over-the-top humor. Being in the 80s, it has a few dated pop culture references, but it avoids them enough to seem still modern. Also, the on-location cinematography and shots of the show still gives it a universal appeal and look. Other than some of the hairstyles and apparel, this show really does not look over 20 years old! The core of SLEDGE HAMMER! is obviously the superb Rasche, who was born to play the title role (good enough to deserve an Emmy if you ask me!). But Rasche was lucky to have excellent support in the form of the classy and sexy Anne-Marie Martin (as Sledge's smart, uppity partner Dori Doreau) and the stern and boisterous Harrison Page (as Sledge's eternally put-upon Police Captain Trunk). The Sledge-Doreau-Trunk trio had a unique chemistry that really makes the show immensely watchable and enjoyable. Standout eps of SEASON ONE start with the fast-paced fun pilot ep 1-UNDER THE GUN, with a cameo appearance by veteran actor John Vernon (who played the Mayor in DIRTY HARRY) again playing the Mayor frustrated by crime and criminals; the city is being targeted by a mysterious sniper-assassin (sound familiar?) so he must begrudgingly lift the quick trigger Inspector Sledge Hammer off suspension, but not before pairing him up with profiler Detective Dori Doreau, to nab the killer. The duo get off to a shaky start, but in the end develop a respect for each other, which prompts Doreau to request to be permanently assigned to Capt. Trunk's bureau as Hammer's partner. Other standout eps (all which pretty much riff on classic films) include 3-WITLESS (hilarious riff set in Amish country), 5-DORI DAY AFTERNOON (fun bank heist ep), 6-TO SLEDGE WITH LOVE (Sledge taking on gangbangers), 7-ALL SHOOK UP (Elvis impersonation ep), 18-DESPERATELY SEEKING DORI (Dori gets to act like Sledge!), 21-JAGGED SLEDGE (Sledge on trial for murdering a mob boss), and the SEASON ONE finale 22-THE SPA WHO LOVED ME (with a crazy ending that forced the show creators to "jump the shark" since it was unexpectedly picked up for a second season!). SEASON ONE is definitely the more daring and unapologetic of the shows 2 seasons. This is one of those shows where it doesn't matter that it didn't go on forever and, in a way, that's probably a good thing!

I love violence!
