This is a class gate lock!The quality of it is top notch, it’s heavy and strong in the hand. The lock mechanism is smooth and easy to turn. They certainly didn’t scrape on the materials to make it, it’s solid.It’s extremely easy to fit with the template that is included. You could also search for videos on YouTube of people fitting it for extra help.In the instructions it mentions about giving it a little lubrication so I wiped a thin layer of 3in1 oil around the main bolt that goes across, it hasn’t rusted at all with that. So I would say if you do that it’s perfectly weather resistant.The price of this lock is decent enough with the quality of it, but if you factor in the fact that you won’t need to pay anyone to fit it, it’s well worth the money. The drill bit provided must be worth a couple of quid at least also!

I'm really happy with this lock. I've only had it on for a few weeks so can't comment on how it will fare through an Irish winter from a rust point of view, but I'll probably give it a wipe with some 3 in 1 oil in the autumn. It was very easy to install and all of the fixings are substantial. My gate is approx 60mm so I went for the 70mm and the barrel protrudes slightly on the entry side but it looks fine. It was an easier option than trying to recess the 50mm.There seem to be a lot of sellers with this type of lock and I can't speak for those but this particular make and model number I would definitely buy again.

A fantastic quality, secure gate lock that can be opened from either side. Fitting is fairly easy, but just a few tips:1) They supply a 28mm wood bit in the box for the lock cylinder, which is OK. I strongly recommend using their template and then drilling a pilot hole in the middle and all the way through from BOTH sides. This will make it easier to drill the 28mm hole and it will prevent blowout (where the drill comes through and splinters the wood from the other side and looks a right mess)2) I needed some 3mm ply as my gate and frame weren't aligned after 30 years. Maybe factor this in when you order. I bought some 3mm MDF here on Amazon. The lock bolt and striker plate (the metal bit on the frame that the bolt engages with) are a good snug fit - there is a little room, but you need to be fairly accurate.3) You'll need a small drill bit for drilling the pilot holes. They used to include one on Youtube videos, but my pack didn't. A 3.5mm is ideal - it helps to seat the screws and makes installing it a lot easier.4) Remove the self adhesive template once you've drilled the pilot holes. I forgot.I'm really impressed with this gate lock. I feel that the side/rear access to my house is better protected and we can access it from either side when we put bins out, gardening, parcels etc. I'm just sorry it took me 30 years to do it.Highly recommended lock.

As a proud Mancunian, I'm used to things that are tough, reliable, and maybe a little bit grey. These gate locks seemed to fit the bill perfectly. When I first got them, I was genuinely impressed. That being said, there is a top lock on the inside side for making it extra secure if needed.The security is top-notch. I've seen squirrels give up trying to get in, which is a testament to its fortitude. However, and here's where the Manchester reference truly comes full circle, after a few weeks, the lock started showing signs of rust. It's like it's trying to blend in with the urban landscape, taking on the patina of a forgotten canal boat. It still works perfectly, mind you, but it's now got that rugged, "I've seen some things" look that I'd usually associate with a seasoned United supporter after a tough match.So, if you're looking for a lock that is secure, comes with enough keys to start a small key-cutting business, and will eventually develop a rustic charm that screams "Northern grit," then this is the lock for you. Just don't expect it to stay shiny and new, because that's just not the Manchester way.

Ordered this based on current reviews and wanting a strong sturdy lock for a new gate I was building. This has done the trick! Looks great and very neat from the exterior side and mechanism works well. The number of keys provided is great incase I were to loose 4, I will still have one available! Only just installed it a few days ago so can't really comment on weather resistance as of yet however I am expecting it to rust quickly based on the previous reviews I have read. The lock itself is quite heavy and seems extremely durable. Haven't had any issues opening or closing the lock. The operation of it is very smooth. I would highly recommend this lock especially for the price paid.

Great lock, solid, sturdy, good quality with easy to follow instructions, read them properly and make sure the lock and latch is the right way up, use the proper screwdriver bit, as once you start screwing the screw in, you cannot take them out, this is for safety, so no one can remove the lock or latch, always drill a pilot hole, so the screws go in easily, drill the hole from both side as instructed, so the wood doesn't split, I'm a 76yr old lady and I fitted it myself, the thing is to take your time, good luck

I have been padlocking our gate for years, it's just been the norm, but now with children wanting bikes out, bikes back in, scooters out, scooter back in, trailing through the house unlocking the gate, locking it back up, trailing back through the house... was getting somewhat tiresome.I'd been looking for an alternative, after trying to find a solution came across this lock, now for a gate lock it's not cheap, but after looking around found it's not that dear either, just what I needed a gate lock you can lock and unlock from either side.. how have I ever managed to live without this.I'm a competent DIYer, fitting is straight forward, just remove the old latch, position the template Mark and drill.Just double and triple check that where the barrel with fit, that there is nothing in the path through the timber, I managed to locate the lock just slightly over where a screw was that held one of the cross supports for the gate.The lock comes with a hole cutting wood bit so no need to go out and buy one.Even with the time taken to sort out moving the screw where the barrel was to go, it took me 15 mins to fit.So easy to install and works a treat, I would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone, plus it comes with 5 keys, so no need to have to start getting keys cut to hand out.Well worth the money.

Good and sturdy lock, easy to follow instructions, all the required tools and fixings are included. Works perfectly.

I'm so glad I found this GateMate lock on Amazon. I was looking for an inconspicuous way to lock my new enclosure's swing gate adjacent to my house. As you will see in the photos, all that is visible is the brass lock cylinder itself. The action is smooth and resistance-free. Installation was easy with the right power tools. They even provide the 28mm bit for a perfect, clean hole and sticker templates for both left-hand and right-hand entries. Stickers, not some cheap piece of paper you have to cut out and tape. Marking and drilling the holes was easy. I recommend drilling the 28mm hole from the inside until you see the bit's tip poking through the outside, then drill the rest of the way from the outside inward for a clean finish on the exterior. This lock comes with strong chrome or zinc screws that don't strip with the impact driver. I chose not to use the included striker bracket, but it is just as strong. Thanks GateMate for an awesome product I would have never found locally!

This is a super sturdy, incredibly well-built gate lock. I love it. My husband loves it. His friend loves it. Both are builders and are planning to use these for their projects in the future.
