The Politics Book

Age 71, living in increasingly complex times, I felt a need to understand the basics of politics. This is just the right book. In plain language, with an excellent glossary, the author takes you through the history and major players. Useful timelines in each section shows influences before and after. This is fascinating reading. I am starting to understand different view points, so the news is starting to make more sense. This is not a dry text- there are plenty of illustrations and cartoons clarifying the text. I recommend this to anyone new to politics and anyone who loves history.

This book gives a very broad overview of political philosophy in a clear and understandable manner. Definitely recommended for anyone interested in this subject matter.

'The Politics Book', by Paul Kelly, is a graphical depiction of politics right from Confucius and Mozi to the modern day. Typically a two-page spread is dedicated to a particular politician/philosopher and his political philosophy, with key quotes and literary works from the respective minds laid out clearly. All the information provided is concise, succinct and does a flawless job of summarising the politics involved. This is a great introductory book to politics in general - upon reading the book I can say I have gained a good general understanding of many political thinkers, from Hobbes and Burke to Marx and Trotsky. In short, I would highly recommend 'The Politics Book'.

It gives a - relatively - complete history of the topic(politics). Its language is simple , easy to read and follow the ideas. The illustrations are amazing and witty. As I wrote previously about the other titles of this series, it is a good starting point to get to know what politics is about and because it is a good book it urges one to get more involved in this topic or others , like psychology etc.

We bought this one together with the philosophy and economics companion books to help the kids with their A-levels. They're good basc reference books that give enough of a snapshot to clarify things and provide a basis for further learning. The information is in discrete, digestible chunks, so they're also great when you have a little time to spare as you can extract an entire "idea" in 10 minutes. We could argue about omissions and inerpretations until the cows come home...but that would detract from their basic usefulness.

Very nice and interesting book 📖

This is a really detailed, in depth book however if, like me you thought it would be a good introduction to politics... you are incorrect. It is a complete history of politics which is brilliant as long as that is what you want.

This range of books are brilliant. Well put together with a wide spread of historical and factual knowledge. The design and and layout of the reference and main pages are well planned allowing you to dip in and out of sections to follow a particular mode of interest or thought. They are great for adults and a for kids (10+) a good introduction to complicated areas of learning.

The book is very useful if you want to know about politics and want to acquire more knowledge about it, the only bad thing I can say is that there are three scratches on the backside

Great book. The totle explains it well. Bid idea simply put togethar. I dont find much time reading books, but just skim it through and you will get your bite of knowledge. I have bought two from same publisher. Will be buying more. Sastified purchase.

Very good book, i love it

I bought this book to complete my collection of "The book of". No problems with the content of the book, but as seen in the pictures, it came damaged -- what was disappointing when I removed the plastic protection it came in, opened it and its cover suddenly fell aside... I took some time to notice it after receiving the pack for I was waiting all of the books to come at once before adding them to my private library. Now I'm waiting for an answer from Amazon to solve this, for I refuse to keep the product in this state. -------- Comprei esse livro para completar minha coleção "The book of". Sem problemas com o conteúdo do livro, mas como pode ser visto nas fotos, ele veio danificado -- o que foi decepcionante quando eu removi a proteção plástica na qual o mesmo veio, daí o abri e a capa caiu para um lado... Eu levei algum tempo para perceber isso porque esperei todos os livros chegarem antes de colocá-los em minha biblioteca particular. Agora estou esperando por uma resposta da Amazon para resolver isso, porque eu me recuso a ficar com o produto nesse estado.

I give this book 5 stars, for being exactly as I hoped for. A brief introduction on the most basic and fundamental subjects in politics. It has achieved its aspirations, by explaining politics in a simple to understand language. Has given enough information in order to understand the key points, but not too much that I would feel like I am wasting my time reading it.
