Surprised me with the quality and capability!
I bought this to tow an old pick-up truck a few miles back to a friend's unit. I was slightly sceptical about the quality when I unboxed it, but it performed really well with zero deformation or damage. I've only used it the once, but it worked very well. It's very easy to assemble and disassemble. The only issue I encountered, if you can even call it an issue, was that the two ends were slid into one another for packaging, and required a gentle tap with a hammer to part. The on-tow banner is a nice touch too! Please note, this won't fit round most tow bars, you'll need to use the tow eye. If you're buying it with the hope of hooking it around your tow bar, it likely won't.

Open it and unpack it before you need it!
The actual bar is great. The shock absorber is a nice touch. It was packaged awfully the tow hooks came with the ends inside eachother after 5 different men and women attempting to pull the thing apart and failing I finally got it apart by covering one end in wd40 tying it to a tree and yanking it this is quite amusing and created something for the family to do but if you were opening this for the first time when your car is broken down at the side of the road I doubt it would be as amusing. So knocked a star off for the lack of thought 🤣

Works well but doesn't include a 13mm spanner, which you need
Used this once to tow a 2015 Nissan Pulsar 1.2 with a 2016 BMW 330D. The front towing eyelet on the Nissan was on the left and the rear towing eyelet on the BMW was on the right. The instructions supplied with the pole didn't specify if this would be a problem or not, just reccomending that they should both be at roughly the same height from the ground. We went with it anyway and it worked fine, although the operation of the spring was probably compromised and the distance between the cars was less than 1.8m. I would reccomend staying connected in a hands free phone call during the tow and be aware thats its a very odd feeling. Only needed to tow for about a mile, which was stressful enough but worked without incident despite the clanking of the pole against the eyelets sounding horrendous in the car doing the towing. The car being towed probably won't have power steering or servo assist on the brakes so will need to be controlled by someone strong enough to steer without assistance, probably won't have the demister or wipers either. The On Tow sign doubles up as the carry case for the pole and isn't the easiest to attach and could easily fall off. Will be stashing some duct tape in the bag for its next use. The pole also needs a 13mm spanner for some of the bolts. This is not supplied. Luckily we were towing a mechanically unrepairable car away from a garage so we're able to borrow one before departing. I have since added a 13mm spanner to the storage bag along with some duct tape. Other than that, it did the job at a reasonable price and far less stressful than a tow rope.

Worth every penny
For the price is a bargain, although the hook could have been designed a bit better, but saying that it’s a universal design made to fit all brands so with that in mind I really can’t fault it and would recommend it. 👍⭐️👍⭐️👍⭐️👍⭐️🇬🇧

... bought this AA heavy duty tow pole as I hate using rope
I bought this AA heavy duty tow pole as I hate using rope. When it arrived I was surprised by its weight. On opening the box, I saw that the storage bag it came in had a hole at one end so was worried that small parts might have escaped, however the parts are all secured with chains to the poles themselves. On putting it together for a practise, I found that the retaining pins to be very light and made of too thin a metal and I do not have faith in them actually staying in. I will be buying thicker ones independently as these look like they could fall out. The holes they go into are much larger than the pin so will accept a heavier version. The poles are bright red and are easy to put together. The 'On Tow' flag in the middle of the pole is a nice little touch. Coincidentally, on 14/01 I needed to tow my son’s car off a dual carriageway after the clutch failed. On setting about putting together the pole, I found it difficult to apply the whole pole to the towing eyes with it ready made. I had to separate the three parts, then attached each towing eye individually to each car then attach the middle section with a small amount of manoeuvring. Once built up it looked good. I instructed my 19yr old about the technique he would be experiencing which included the sound of the knocking metal. I shook the bar to simulate the noise to stop him worrying. At this point I realised that an improvement could be made by adding a hard rubber grommet that could be slid over the hook after attachment that would quieten the sound dramatically I will be going to a DIY shop looking for an ideal part. Once underway the towing was easy and well controlled. At times I had to slow or pull away from junctions, where the towing eyes banged against the towing hooks and made a horrific banging sound, I had to keep checking that he was still there. Once home, the towing bar was undamaged. I was going to buy one of the cheaper bars off EBay but I am glad I chose this one. It comes in a bright red bag that will sit in any boot, and as it only cost me £21:78. I have already saved over 3-4 times its value over hiring a breakdown vehicle to take the car home. I would highly recommend this bar
