From writing poems to writing birthday cards, and from composing advertising slogans to music lyrics, the New Oxford Rhyming Dictionary has what every writer (or budding writer) needs. It contains rhymes for over 45,000 words, including proper names, place names, and foreign terms used in English. The clear organization and layout make it easy to find the rhymes you are looking for. Words are grouped usefully by sound and there is also a complete A-Z index to help you quickly navigate to the relevant section. In-text notes offer tips on using rhymes effectively, make suggestions for expanding the rhyming lists included in the book, and give examples of how poets past and present have used rhyme. The fascinating introduction by Professor John Lennard offers a brief outline of rhyming in its literary and historical contexts, and gives further advice on creative writing. This new edition is fully up to date and includes over 200 words added to the Oxford Dictionary of English since the publication of the last edition, including iPod , Americano , and vuvuzela . The New Oxford Rhyming Dictionary is a must-have tool for poets, lyricists, and writers of all kinds, as well as a delight for everyone who likes to play with words. Fantastic reference book for poets
Perfect for a Creative Writing course, absolutely invaluable. Other class members very jealous they do not have a copy themselves. Easy to use, and even educational, too!! The book was, I think, advertised as being in good condition. In fact it was in excellent condition. Thanks. Arrived in good time too. Thanks again. Sue

Good dictionary and easy to use
Great dictionary. We used it a few times and it’s proved useful. Didn’t have another similar one to compare but this does the job for kids work at school.

If you want to write rhymes, this is very useful.
I found the long introduction useful, with its explanations of types of poetry, and scansions. The reference section is in two parts: a short list, at the back, like a thesaurus, indicating where you will find each word; and a detailed section, laying out all the words that rhyme. It only has use for rhyming poetry; but that is not really a criticism; if you want to write blank verse, it won't help. Overall, though, I found it a fairly helpful book.

Take your time, find the rhyme
This book is easy to use and a real asset when you need to find a word that rhymes

Totally and thoroughly complete
This is the best rhyming dictionary that I have found. It has words that aren't in my excellent Oxford standard dictionary. Sometimes you have to be creative, though, because not every variation of every word is represented. I used to use it as an adjunct tool, but now I rely on it as a substitute for the word recall of my memory. Indespensible!

2nd Best After Penguin one...;)
I was confused between Penguin Rhyming Dictionary And New Oxford Rhyming Dictionary .(Note-This is second edition of new Oxford ) Both are good and kind of similar also. Pros- * *next best to Penguin *best if u want cheap and Quick reference dictionary. Very nice for kids who like poetry writing Cons- *penguin one contains words meanings too for most unknown words according to the writer which saves time but in Oxford you need a separate dictionary anyway. Paper quality is fair not yellow but They are not thick enough They are smooth but even wet hands can Ruin the page so u have to be careful while using it. *book is handy but can not be used as "rough-tough" *paper quality is main deference between "hard-cover" and paper-back that raise price , though it's only available in paperback so use it wisely *both are best seller in UK and quality of paper used in both Oxford one and penguin are not same. I own both so I'll recommend penguin ..thanks :)

well organized
i'm not one to rifle thru a rhyming dictionary nor thesaurus without first giving the spirit a good running start -- but this one is a real find -- unobtrusive, quick and easy reference tool. truly useful introduction by the astonishing john lennard, who is, as world authorities go, a pretty nice fellow.

Interesting approach to rhyming words. A bit tricky to use until you get used to it.
