When it comes to producing powerful, melodic, chart-oriented pop untainted with all-dancing, all-smiling boy-band blandness, nobody comes within miles of Hanson. Having lain low for a couple of years while voices broke and settled down, on This Time Around the teen dreams boast a slightly tougher sound all round, but there's no reduction in the tuneful, hook-filled all-out assault on the dance reflexes of humanity. To acknowledge which century they're in, there's some tasty scratching in "Can't Stop" and hints of a hip-hop beat in "Sure About It", but essentially Hanson are a shamelessly traditional power pop band, whose close harmonies are hard to resist and whose Grammies are probably just a matter of time. --Johnny Black
