Good for Rheem systems.
May not work with dual 2.4/5.0 frequency routers but seems to work fine with 2.4 only. You can purchase a cheap 2.4 ghz only extender and set it up to provide a dedicated connection point for the wifi such as tp-link n300 extender.

Not backwards compatible
Bought as a replacement for a broken EcoNet 601. Heating and Fan worked fine. In spring, the AC wouldn’t turn on. Called support and they confirmed the 800’s broke backwards compatibility and they no longer make EcoNet thermostats compatible with my furnace and told me to buy a new furnace or hunt down a discontinued thermostat.

Disappointing and 10 years behind
Overall the EcoNet feels like an unfinished product and the users are the beta testers of a very expensive unit. The features seem to be focused for Rheem and the installer/service provider since they can "see" issues remotely and sometimes before it becomes a major issue. Not a terrible idea but if you've ever used a Nest or Ecobee you'll quickly notice that the EcoNet is 10-15 years behind from a user experience and features perspective. I called with some issues with the EcoNet thermostat that I can no longer live with, mainly it has put the furnace in off mode 3 times without being asked to and I only noticed when it started feeling cold in the house. Some other issues: The history doesn't populate in the app (known issue and this hasn't worked in the 3 months I've had it), the display won't turn completely off (proximity sensor works, but the screen is always on with the temp visible), only 4 time slots to schedule temperature changes per day and the time of day has to be the same for both heating and cooling, you can't run a fan schedule unless you are in fan only mode, and it doesn't integrate with my utility company for potential electricity savings during "rush hours". These are all features that a Nest Thermostat I bought 13 years ago could do.

Faceplate, clear tape on sensor required on this overpriced thermostat.
I’ve had to become my own tech for this one. Had a Rheem Variable installed and automatically the EcoNet comes with it. Let me tell you how much swing in temperatures the thermostat has. I had to ChatGPT solutions such as…. Putting clear tape on the actual opening of the sensor to avoid reading too much. Any sort of air moving through it, it’s reading as it’s cooling fast but basic facts show you it’s not cooling the house 6 degrees in 10 minutes, it’s just faulty. I gave it another day until I decided to start hacking the product so it can work and found solutions I mentioned previously. Make sure to order a faceplate so the back plate does not receive air conditioning and false sense the reading further. If you have any opening in the back make sure to cover it because any negative or positive pressures going through it will definitely trigger these issues. Any fan hitting the EcoNet, move it away because this is how sensitive the readers are. Make sure you set deadpoint band down from 2 degrees to 1 degree so it’s less sensitive on the cycling. All of this because Nest does not work on variable speed and Rheem enjoys product locking their lineup. #anotherlovelyepisodeoffthishoise

Don't waste your money
We are on our second thermostat installed by our heating contractor. Neither has kept an honest reading of the inside temperature thus causing temperature to fluctuate from 62 to 73 degrees. So much for temp regulation.
