She thought he was homeless. He thought she was insufferable. Turns out, they were both right—and both wrong. Podiatry nurse Lisa Marsh has been playing it safe ever since her husband's tragic death three years ago. But when a Thanksgiving Day meltdown forces her to face how much she's been hiding from life, her sister-in-law issues a challenge: do something meaningful to honor his memory. Lisa's solution? Help a scruffy, unemployed man at the local community center get back on his feet. Never mind that Pete seems oddly resistant to her excellent advice, or that every time they meet, he's covered in mud, blood, or mysteriously reeking of whiskey. Pete has every reason to be offended. He's not homeless—he's the director of programs at the Unity Plenkiss Community Center. But between his patchy No-Shave-November beard, a series of slapstick accidents, and Lisa's spectacular talent for jumping to conclusions, he can't seem to find the right moment to correct her very wrong assumptions. Especially when her misguided "Pete the Snow Man" project starts creating real jobs for the people he actually serves. How can he confess the truth when she's accidentally doing so much good? As Lisa's small service project snowballs into a full-blown Christmas ministry—complete with reindeer wrangling, inflatable nativity disasters, and the world's ugliest matching sweaters—she finds herself falling for the man she's trying to "fix." But when the truth finally comes out, will Pete's deception melt their chances at love? Or will these two stubborn do-gooders discover that sometimes the best Christmas miracle is learning to laugh at yourself? The Hope Again Series Baggage Claim Snow Angels Long Shadows Hope for the Holidays Home Run The Road Home Review: Read it and enjoy it! - I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The storyline was interesting and surprising at places, but very realistic. It's a sweet story about a young widow who begins serving her local community on Thanksgiving Day and ends up staying in ever increasing capacity through Christmas. The characters are funny and believable and several times I burst out laughing at their adventures. There is also a real touch of realism as I understood the struggles of the people being served. I'll be loaning it out and reading it again. Review: Sweet love story with a huge helping of good works - I downloaded this to my Kindle and started reading it by accident when I though I had clicked on a different title. I kept reading because it was intriguing, and I wanted to see where it went. In all honesty, I struggled with the heroine at times. She was self-centered and downright rude to her sister-in-law, but she did have some character growth througout the story (although she was a bit childish in some of her actions at the end, too). Some of the other characters were great. I loved some of the homeless veterans who spent time at the community center. They tugged at my heartstrings and felt like real life friends. This book had a great deal of deception, so if that bothers you in a Christian novel, you might want to pass on it, but if you want a sweet love story with a huge helping of good works, this is a nice choice.

Mistaken identity, real life issues, enjoyable story
This was an interesting book full of real life difficulties that were treated with dignity and respect. Problems didn’t get perfectly resolved, but rather were acknowledged and sometimes left as problems, giving a realistic feeling. The story has a happy ending and is very enjoyable.

A Christmas story with a unique theme
Always enjoy a Christmas story with a different twist and this provides it. A case of mistaken identity leads to many calamities and laughs in this unique novella of a young widow who becomes involved with an outreach shelter for displaced persons. Giving to others through "Pete", helps Lisa to heal from her past trauma through self-forgiveness and eventually move forward with her life. A shorter Christian-based story just right for an entertaining read for those who wish to become a part of the true spirit of Christmas.

Laugh, cry and laugh again
All of the characters grip your heart. The path to healing of mind and relationship with Jesus is profound. It's been written before (and I agree)...Catherine Swanson will make you laugh, cry, and then laugh again. Thank you, Cathe, for the realness of spiritual struggles backed with the truth of The Holy Bible!

He's not who she thinks
Lisa thinks Pete is just another homeless man when he comes through the food line on Thanksgiving. After she sees him in the ER, and with her sister-in-law's prodding, she decides she's going to help Pete. Trying to help Pete leads to helping quite a few members of the community. How long will it take before she finds out who Pete really is and how will she react?

Great Christmas Read
Another new-to-me author and I am so thankful for bookish friend recommends! ‘Snow Angels’ starts out anything but angelic especially when it comes to Lisa’s bossy fix-it attitude. I was torn between laughing and cringing most of the read because….oh, I do so love a good case of mistaken identity and this one is definitely that. Still grinning over some of the situations Pete found himself in courtesy of Lisa’s bull-dozing ways. BUT There’s so much depth in her back story that kept me rooting for her to finally see the light and when she does…wowzer! Solid hallelujah moment that sent shivers up my spine! And now I’m wrestling with what else to say since I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Let’s just say that Lisa receives so much more than she gives and that the ‘Snow Angels’ title is a brilliant tie in to the story. Ten out of ten for inspirational content and ten out of ten for all the Christmas vibes. The two blend together beautifully to create an emotional and uplifting story that celebrates the true meaning of Christmas.

gentle, funny and thought provoking
Well written, interesting book. I learned a lot about Vets and how easy it is to judge scruffy or homeless people and create stereotypes. I enjoyed the gentle love story at the culmination. No one was nasty and parts were funny. No distracting descriptions but enough detail to set scene. Characters realistic and hurting in their own ways. Short book but satisfying. Christian. No sex violence bad language so refreshing.
