However, other resources would need to be used in order to understand again algorithms and discrete math, which both I am not very fond of. Used this book for my class, the review examples are very helpful at the end of the chapters and can be found on online from previous versions of the book. Though I am only on chapter 4 so far, seems things are going well. Review: Good book if your math is good - Stallings does a good job explaining complicated cryptography, but he sometimes assumes a certain level of mathematical ability. His favorite phrase seems to be "...it follows that...". He uses that phrase to skip some of the mathematics and assumes it's second nature to the reader. For me, this was not always the case. These assumptions make following the logical train of thought difficult at times. As a textbook, it's good, however, for learning cryptography outside of a classroom setting, there are better alternatives.

Crytology
This book is a great read, it breaks down the examples and is almost an easy read because it explains alot. However, other resources would need to be used in order to understand again algorithms and discrete math, which both I am not very fond of. Used this book for my class, the review examples are very helpful at the end of the chapters and can be found on online from previous versions of the book. Though I am only on chapter 4 so far, seems things are going well.

Stallings does a good job explaining complicated cryptography, but he sometimes assumes a certain level of mathematical ability. His favorite phrase seems to be "...it follows that...". He uses that phrase to skip some of the mathematics and assumes it's second nature to the reader. For me, this was not always the case. These assumptions make following the logical train of thought difficult at times. As a textbook, it's good, however, for learning cryptography outside of a classroom setting, there are better alternatives.

College-Level Textbook good for Technical Professionals
A lot of this course is crypto, so if you are looking for crypto, this is a great book. And as a textbook it has exercises after every chapter. Make sure you are buying the most current edition, as that changes rapidly (annually)

A very up-to-date self contained text with good enough detail explanations and mathematical backgrounds.
It has all mathematical backgrounds for understanding every algorithms. it covers almost all the state-of-art algorithms available. It gives you insights into what can be done in future.

Way Overpriced and Cheating on the Content
Most text books are over priced. If that were the only issue I would have not given this book a two star rating. But this book made me feel cheated. After paying $100+ price for this book, what I got was a book printed on thin paper and a lot of important content relegated to appendices that are only available online through the publisher website. Really? After paying $100+, I have to go off to the website, create an account, download the 20 different appendices, print them and staple them together so that I can read how DES encryption works? Also, this book has several typos. Very disappointing for such an expensive book. The book content is good though.

Amazon rental was massive letdown, book could be better
The book I received from rental from amazon was vandalized. Heavily written and highlighter. It was annoying. The book itself was okay, but glazed over everything. Needs to go into better detail and have more examples and break tons down to follow better

Very good book. I have been reading this book as a text book in my college years and also at graduate school. It is an excellent reference book for anyone in the security field

This book is for advance user. I still unable to understand all of its content. I really recommend you to buy some basic book with it.

Not as expected...
The book received is Indian Edition. The capture of the book cover does not reprensent the reality as the one I have received is totally different. Actually the price was low, but the quality of the paper is very low as well. Expecting having bought second hand book, I have finally a new book, but Indian edition. Description should have been more precise.

No cumplieron las condiciones mostradas
No me vendieron la edición que se muestra en el libro y la mayoría de los capítulos relativos a redes eran de acceso online (también me quitaron el código de acceso...). Pero supongo que para adquirir el nivel de criptografía está bien el libro que me vendieron aunque ni de lejos fuera el producto que pensaba haber adquirido (el de la descripción).

A great book but good topics like OSI model is not explained which is very important topic of networking . Overall very good book for Encryption and decryption technicas
