Originally designated the L-19, The Bird Dog went into production in June, 1956 and was used during the Korean campaign as a liaison airplane by Army Field Forces to spot the enemy's troop concentrations, direct ground operations, carry ammunition, and evacuate wounded. It returned to production in 1962 and designated the 0-1E, the Bird Dog gained fame anew as a “FAC” airplane (forward air controller) in South Vietnam war where it was very effective in spotting and directing fire against the enemy Vietcong forces. Guillow was founded in 1926 by a World War 1 US Navy aviator and is the world's largest manufacturer of balsa wood model airplane kits. They have an enviable reputation for producing quality kits with excellent building instructions and plans. The 900 Series is a range of sleek rubber powered models for indoor or outdoor flying. Built light, they are great flyers with ample wing areas and effective rubber motor/propeller combinations. Kits contain top quality balsa, plastic nose cowls, canopies and decals. For ages 10 and up. Each kit is supplied with a rubber band motor for powered flight but can also be adapted for powered control line flying with a .020 engine (not included). These model construction kits have scale realism for the super detail fan and light weight for those who build and fly. Each model is a small but faithful replica of a well known airplane. A great kit representing excellent value for money and hours of fun! Requires adhesives and basic modelling tools to complete.
