Reliability and quality.
Ecobee Thermostat was easy to install and made from quality materials. Instructions are easy to follow. Only one misguide from verification guidance: If you wish not to use the PEK adapter your HVAC must have a common ground (blue wire) to power up device.

Very happy with my Ecobee
The thermostat and, almost as importantly, its app work very well and are easy to operate with an assortment of features and settings available. The thermostat and built-in hygrometer are sensitive to any air leakage that could occur through the mounting holes in the wall so special attention should be taken during installation.

To save energy and control it with my phone.
Ecobee is an Excellent thermostat. It will save you energy and money. And is very easy to install. The only negative thing is that it’s expensive. But it’s worth it if you want to save energy and control it with your phone.

Ecobee Firmware Defect: Do NOT Purchase Ecobee "Smart" Thermostat Premium
This Thermostat is so "smart" that it's STUPID, folks! Here are but a few of the firmware defects with this thermostat. I WISH I could return this POS to Amazon. I missed my deadline by a few weeks because I had to leave town. Learn from my mistake!!!! By the way, after spending over $220 on this "smart" thermostat, it's now sitting in the original box, and I have a $50 non-programmable Honeywell on my wall (and it heats my house no problem). Only problem: now I have no controller for my 2-wire accessory HRV...which is why I bought the Ecobee thermostat to begin with. I wish I would have bought the alternative Honeywell thermostat/HRV controller. I'm very, very, very disappointed. AUTO MODE: If your Ecobee is set to "Auto" mode (where it switches between heating and cooling automatically), this setting is supposed to act as a safety net. In reality, it acts as your adversary. The "Minimum Delta" forces a permanent buffer zone (usually 2°F to 5°F) between your lowest allowed heating temperature and highest allowed cooling temperature. It stops the two systems from fighting or overlapping. Sound smart? Sound spectacular? Think again. If you try to manually slide your heat set point too close to the cooling set point, the Ecobee "Smart" Premium will resist or force the other set point away, preventing the heat from engaging at the exact number you want. If you, like me, are unable to get this thermostat to turn on your furnace when your home reaches a given temperature, you'll wind up exploring one area for sure during the HOURS you'll waste of your life troubleshooting. That's the minimum and maximum heat set point range. Even if this range is set properly, this uber smart thermostat will still invariably entangle you with its schedule, an energy (and cost) savings, according to Ecobee. This is actually just more firmware barriers to heating to your home. If you're saving money, it's because you're freezing, and so are your pets, and your plants! Even if you do as I did and manually disable the stupid schedule, This Ecobee Premium uses its internal radar and remote room sensors to calculate an "average" home temperature. If Follow Me is active, this Ecobee ignores the temperature of the actual wall thermostat if it "thinks" no one is standing near it. Its algorithmic math switches to the included remote sensor in an unoccupied room. If that other room (wherever you placed the included exterior sensor) is registering as warm, this Ecobee will ASSUME the whole house is warm and, therefore, fail to initiate the furnace, even when the living room feels freezing to you! This is a firmware defect and Ecobee is responsible for this defect! Ecobee has not impressed me at all with its thermostat, and I did spend hours troubleshooting. If you buy this thermostat, you'll be funneled into a smart mobile phone app, where you'll next be foisted onto a "virtual assistant" who won't be able to overcome the fundamental defects in the firmware itself. Try this. Try that. This this. Try that. I did try this. I did try that. In the end, the virtual assistant will tell you to return your product to the seller, which, in this case, would be Amazon. Don't wait too long, like I did, though. Or you'll be stuck with a defective piece of junk. If you don't have this experience, it will be because you researched independently, without Ecobee's help.
