What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn off the last robot? This is the premise behind Wall-E , the latest comedy adventure from the inventive storytellers and technical geniuses at Pixar Animation Studios ( The Incredibles , Cars , Ratatouille ). The story, told by Academy Award®-winning writer-director Andrew Stanton ( Finding Nemo ), concerns a determined robot named WALL-E, left behind to clean up the planet after the last humans have left. After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL-E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) has developed his very own personality. He discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he encounters--and becomes enamoured with--a sleek search robot named EVE. WALL-E and EVE travel across the galaxy and set into motion one of the most exciting and imaginative comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen. Joining WALL-E on his fantastic journey across a universe of never-before-imagined visions of the future is a hilarious cast of characters, including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots. Filled with surprises, action, humour and heart, WALL-E also features original and innovative sound design by Academy Award®-winner Ben Burtt, the man responsible for the voice of R2D2 in Star Wars (as well as work on E.T. and Indiana Jones ). Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of Earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain (Jeff Garlin) joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. Underneath the slapstick comedy and touching love story is a poignant message about the folly of human greed and its potential effects on earth and the entire human race. -- Tami Horiuchi , desertcart.com Review: Superlative Blu-ray For A Modern Masterpiece - Love, loneliness, hope, loss and rediscovery are just some of the themes explored in WALL E, another surefire hit from the team at Pixar. Probably my favourite Pixar film, it never fails to make me smile. Primarily aimed at kids but with more than enough smarts and humour to charm adults this is THE perfect family film for our modern times. WALL E is a happy little load lifting waste compactor robot living on a now adandoned and polluted Earth who unwittingly becomes the catalyst for a rebirth of humanity. Finding friendship and maybe even love along the way WALL E will touch your heart and make you laugh at his madcap adventure on Earth and then in space. Beautifully written, animated and directed this is undoubtedly a modern masterpiece of film making and a future classic. Pixar are never mean with their selection of extras but this Blu-ray sets a new standard for me. 2 commentary tracks which are both well worth your time. One has us one on one with the director Andrew Stanton which is a joy to listen to, providing an in depth disection of everything relating to the making of the film. The other commentary track is a Blu-ray exclusive and is labelled as a 'geek track/trash talk' with 4 of the peeps from Pixar and its great stuff too. Very geeky, quite funny and another great listen this is also a worthy inclusion and something Id like to see more of. Theres a fairly short making of WALL E featurette but its still interesting to watch. We get BURN E and PRESTO, (2 animated shorts) BnL animated shorts, interactive videogames, (yes, really!!!) a tour of the ship from the film, deleted scenes plus more. But the extra which is probably worth the disc price alone is the feature length documentary 'The Pixar Story' which is just a very special document of the story of the wonderful people at Pixar, including John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and the sadly recently deceased Steve Jobs. A true fairytale documented almost as it happened. Wonderful. The picture and audio quality is stunning, as ever with Pixar, so if you're wondering at all this is pretty much the perfect Blu-ray release. Magnificent Pixar!!! Review: Brilliant story-telling - Amazing Blu-Ray - WALL-E is stunning film by any standards. To label it an animation or a kids film is to miss the time and effort Pixar put into their films. The nominating of Up as best film may have been a token gesture to animation in the recent Oscars, but at least does acknowledge that these people are filmmakers, pure and simple. The fact that their chosen medium for storytelling is animation should have no more bearing than the choice to write a novel over a screenplay. WALL-E is superbly crafted, with our eponymous hero acting like a robotic Charlie Chaplin, bumbling his way in a sweetly heroic way, almost oblivious to the chaos he is causing. That he is the most 'human' character in the film is by no means a mistake. His selfish actions, curiosity and kind heart affect both the robots and humans he comes into contact with, enriching their meaningless lives beyond imagining. Yes the story may have a heavy environmental message, but at it's heart it is a story about being true to yourself and not missing the small moments in life. Is the story aimed at children? Well, no, it isn't, it's aimed at everyone, Pixar have certainly made more child friendly films, such as Finding Nemo or A Bug's Life, but this film feels richer, more rewarding than a film simply aimed at children. It challenges viewers with short attention spans, with no real dialogue for over half an hour and main characters who barely speak. It then betrays those who have been seduced by the simple pleasures of the first half, to turn into a more action oriented comedy affair. But if you are willing to follow the ride with WALL-E the transition is logical and well handled. Both halves are filled with truly beautiful moments, from the startling waste-land of Earth, to the mesmerising journey through space and the space 'dance' between WALL-E and EVE. As for the Blu-Ray, it is clear that Disney set the gold standard for Blu-Ray. The picture and sound are nothing short of breathtaking. The transfer is flawless with exquisite detail packed into every image. The sound is superb, from the loudest bangs to the subtlest whistles. To me, one of Pixar's greats and that's saying a lot from a studio that produces a great nearly every time they release a film.

I think this might be my film of the decade
With each new Pixar film the ante is raised on what can be achieved in animation. I recently watched all of the main releases again and what struck me most were the step changes in the quality of each film. At the beginning the emphasis was on the main characters (understandable, there is only so much computing power to go round), Nemo, Buzz Lightyear, Boo etc, and the background is window dressing. With Finding Nemo and The Incredibles more was added but in WALL-E the background is pretty much fully realised. When WALL-E and EVE are flying through space the detail is breathtaking and there are galaxies/stars as far as the eye can see. When WALL-E does his lonely rounds, a dusty, deserted planet Earth stretches away into the distance (although I have to say the compacting of waste into endless piles of metallic cubes seemed a convenient way of filling out the scene, even though that IS probably what a robot would do :) ). In the chase scenes we no longer simply have a dog, Woody and a lorry as in Toy Story. Now all hell breaks loose with dozens of animated figures taking part in the action. However, WALL-E is about more than the animation. How the hell did Pixar get me, an adult male, to care about the blossoming love affair between two robots? Well, they did it by first getting me to emphasise with an honourable, plucky, dutybound little diamond in the wasteland, called WALL-E, who barely utters a single intelligible word throughout the film. EVE is more conventional, an exotic, futuristic catwalk model of a robot that Wall-E can't help but fall for. Why EVE would concern herself with WALL-E is less evident at the outset but she eventually comes to the same conclusion as the rest of us, that WALL-E is a heroic little bugger who deserves to get the girl. I welled up when WALL-E and EVE performed a courtship dance around the human spaceship. It is done with the grace and flair of a Fred/Ginger movie. Animation is where CGI works best. The more I watch photo-realistic action films, the more I wonder what the point is. Ok, Bruce Willis wasn't REALLY jumping down lift shafts in Die Hard but I got the impression he might actually have been involved in the stunt. In animation the imagination can really run riot and I hope that WALL-E is just the next evolutionary step in the amazing canon of Pixar films. Anyway, as you might guess, I LOVE this film and I am not easily pleased. Don't be put off by the animation tag or the childish feel to the trailers (after all, kids will always be the target audience). Watch this, it is probably the best animation (let alone Pixar animation) film ever made.

Fantastic and adorable
Wall-E is a fantastic film, which our household watched twice in the first month of having it. Wall-E himself is adorable and I suspect all those who remember - and loved - 'Number 5' (aka Johnny Five) from 'Short Circuit' in the mid 80's will fall for Wall-E, the same as I did. Reminiscent of Johnny he may be, but Wall-E brings it to a new level, provoking countless bursts of oohs and aahs from the audience, along with a generous helping of laughter. I've observed two middle aged men as they watched it and they both melted. *Aw* I have no regrets in purchasing the Blu-ray version of Wall-E. My partner requested this version and although some of the film is intended to be drab in places, it is only to highlight the depressing aspect of having Earth shrouded in such filth. When colour is intended to bring an injection of life into the story, it works beautifully and although I cannot compare it to the standard DVD format (as I have not seen it), I would recommend the Blu-ray. All in all, Wall-E is a lovely film, which melts adults and children alike. It is easy to watch again and again and if you're looking for something to make you go all silly and entice you to to fall for a character - this is it. The moral message is apt and highlights the ugliness of humanity, as it can be on a global scale. I especially liked the references to the dangers of monopolisation by global organisations and the responsibility we have, as consumers, to appreciate and care for our haven in this universe. [Remember to recycle the packaging if you buy this product.] A big thumbs-up for Wall-E!

Dystopian future with a cute robot?
The film is of a dystopian future; the world is depleted of free space, humans and bulging with trash and refuse. A robot, the last of its design, works alone with his endless task of organising this waste. Then keeps his eye on attractive items he comes across. Another robot lands and discovers the robot and a single plant growing on the planet. This second robot is re - launched into space, with the worker robot hanging on. This is to be a meeting with what turns out to be a single, massive space vessel carrying the remnants of the human race. What happens next? The film is a lonely place for the first half hour. With just the robot and items he finds it's harder to maintain interest. Its reminding me of the first half hour of '2001: a Space Odyssey'? This being the lack of spoken narrative, i mean. It's a film of the future consequences of actions taking present now. The speculation of a future where the items we take for granted from recent past to present are now just in the trash choking the future planet. An irony being the sputnik still orbiting the earth, and the hotels on the moon to see where the first lunar landing to place! The observation that the remnants of the human race aboard a huge space ship over hundreds of years could develop into huge distended figures is logically consequences to me, given the flow of the story. The flow of knowledge is shown that the manual use by the captain is just one image per page is telling of today. The robots are made cute, which is to engage more of the younger audiences, and is a choice to link this future to the next generation. The film stays with you after seeing it, just to sort out what's been described to you the viewer.? The blu ray rendering is very high quality. It has a tough protective coating to protect the movie for multiple plays. The disk looks great even on my bog - standard 32" telly. I got confused with which disk to put in the player. So as long as you get the right disk in, your given several minutes of promotional film snippets to wade through before your movie starts.

Pixar at it's best!
Every film Pixar has produced has got better and better! Wall-E is no exception to this! After the human race have had to go and live in space due to lack of care for Earth and over-consumerism, Wall-E is left alone to clear up the mess until one day Eve arrives to change his life forever!!! A clever, though a little bit predictable at times (boy-meets-girl), storyline that may be lost on the younger viewers. The computer graphics in this are astounding, at times you would swear that it was real and the audio to go along with it is fantastic. A great film that is loved by everyone in my house, especially my 2 year old!

Maybe Pixar's most audacious and poetic film (along with Up) in a fantastic blu ray
Maybe Pixar's most audacious and poetic film (along with Up). Wall-E is an almost experimental silent film in the first half, where both the graphic sign and the overall mood are apocaliptical and so quietly intense and poetically dense. In the second half it becomes a sparkling adventure and comedy, where you can still find, however, the same questions and subjects of the first half, yet seen from the other side, that of humans under a kind of corporative dictatorship, who live in opulence and don't do anything all day because they think they have all it takes. And by doing so, maybe Pixar did not appeal all the audience, but managed to be profound and touching even without a spoken word, and then to give even kids an uncommon and stimulating point of view about life and what really counts: that is not a fat diet and nothing to do. Maybe a deeply poetic way to talk about third world vs first world? I unique masterpiece in a fantastic blu ray quality anyway

Blu-ray Wow!, Wall-e!
This was the first blu-ray I bought (going by the reviews). After finally getting my "decent" TV/hdmi/blu-ray player, set-up (eventually), we watched Wall-e. I won't go into plot details - if you want that, see other reviews. I'm just basically gonna say that Wall-e on blu-ray is a visual delight. All the hype/credit that Pixar get is justified. The film itself is delightful, with a combination of a heart-warming story of love and an ominous warning to us humans to look after this planet that we so much depend on. Thoroughly recommended.

Wall E

One of the modern animated Classics.
Who would've ever believed that a pair of robots, both with two word vocabularies, could star in one of the BEST animated love stories EVER!
