  • About this cultivar: Agapanthus 'Navy Blue' is our best selling Agapanthus, and with good reason - it is tough, it is upright, and it produces lots and lots of dark-navy-blue flowers for a long, long time. We seem to grow it everywhere - check it out next to Hydrangea 'Annabelle'. Word on the street: "Navy Blue' is a synonym for something, but I don't know what.....
  • About this genus: Agapanthus (lily-of-the-nile) is a South-African perennial genus that is known for being a fantastic summer-flowering, butterfly-attracting perennial - our second best selling is Agapanthus! At Ballyrobert we've trialed many cultivars to find what we think are the best performers out there..
  • Agapanthus forms clumps with strap-like leaves which in the summer produce stems ending with with large circular arrangements of trumpet-like flowers. The clump-size, stem-length, flower colour and foliage can vary depending on the cultivar. Flower colours can vary from light to dark purple, light to dark blue, grey to white, and even bicolour. The foliage can range from evergreen to semi-evergreen to deciduous..
  • Agapanthus tend to prefer full-sun but will also grow in part shade. They tend to be quite drought tolerant. Some Agapanthus are supposed to be tender. We don't sell those ones here! All the cultivars we sell have been tested in our own garden over a number of years. We've found them to be tough, fully hardy, low maintenance s perfect for a wide range of gardens. Unsurprising since they are native to South Africa - a place of wildly varying habits..
  • Position: Full sun, partial shade (better in full sun) Soil: Almost any soil - grows well in Ballyrobert! Flowers: July, August, September Other features: Bees and Butterflies Hardiness: Fully hardy - grows well in Ballyrobert! Habit: Clump forming Foliage: Deciduous Height: 60 to 120 cm (2 - 4 ft) Spread: 45 to 75 cm (1.5 - 2.5 ft) Time to full growth: 2 to 5 years type: aceous Perennial Colour: Blue, purple, green.
s are sold in half litre sized pots (9cm pots that are nearly pint sized, about 520ml in capacity). All the cultivars we sell have been grown and tested in our own garden (which is an RHS partner garden open to the public). When your s arrive they can usually be ed straight out after soaking in water for 3 or 4 minutes. A good rule of thumb; make the soil level of the pot level with the rest of your border when ing out. Another rule of thumb; nearly all our s will grow in indirect sunlight; we are in the British Isles after all. Another rule of thumb (!); s usually do better in the ground, which is unsurprising because that where they can from! Containers are ok if s are kept fed and watered during their growing months, and in a warmer place during the winter. Try not to over water! During the year s can be in various states of growth. The same delivered in early spring could be much bigger or smaller if delivered in late spring. Please be aware of this when ordering or receiving them. Some s may have their flowers and foliage cut back when we send them, and look a bit awful! Don't worry, it is for their own good; some s like to travel light. Similarly bulbs, rhizomes, and some s may be dormant or dying back for the year when you order them, they may even look dead - that is the nature of hardy perennials so don't worry. them out and wait, perhaps until next year, patience is a virtue in the hardy perennial game. Eventually your hardy perennials should grow back beautiful year after year. Again, this is the nature of hardy perennials - they die back and grow back, die back and grow back, year after year after year. Some years are better than others. You get the picture! Postage and packaging is a flat fee of £3.99 per order If you are for some reason upset in any way please contact us - we're human.
