Great for holidays!
Great bit of kit. My 3 (nearly 4) year old loves the leapPad2 and it was great on a recent holiday with a long flight. I was quite amazed at how quickly he got to grips with the functions and I have to say that I am impressed with the educational aspect of the LeapPad although I wouldn't want him to have unrestricted LeapPad time - we use it as an occassional toy and he seems happy with that. He loves the fact that he has a grown up looking bit of kit to look after. The games that came with the Pad and a couple of extras that I downloaded do all have a learning element and you can select different learning levels so that the pad "grows" with your child. It has been fun to watch him learn how to use the camara and drawing tools to include us in some of the stories and games. Setting it all up is very simple, took me 20mins or so on the PC, and very easy to download extra games from the LeapPad online shop(and easy to get carried away). My son seems more than happy with the five or so games / functions that come with the Pad, a couple of freebies I found on line and a couple of extras (Thomas and Cars). A great advantage of the LeapPad2 (and the reason that I went for the new model rather than the discounted LeapPad1)is that you can buy a mains cable with rechargable batteries that just live in the pad. So, to recharge you just plug it in and you can still play while it charges and there is no need to fiddle around taking batteries in and out. Would be nice if the cable came with the pad, but it is an extra.... All in, great fun, you can just about justify it as educational, but it is expensive, particularly once you add in all of the extras, certainly not an essential but if you are after a treat to keep little minds and fingers occupied then this may just fit the bill.

Great Toy, Lots of Hidden Costs
I bought this for our child. I was really pleased with the bargain price, I also bought a gel skin and padded carry case and still felt like I got a great deal. The Leappad was delivered quickly and it is a brilliant toy, the range of apps available mean that it will be played with for years to come. Just nitpicking here but I was a bit disappointed that the accent and language used in most of the apps I have encountered is American, e.g. "period" instead of "full stop" (yes, I did select UK English in the set-up). The real disappointment was that the Leappad runs on batteries as I thought it would have an internal, re-chargeable battery. Make sure you have 4 AA batteries ready for when the item arrives or you will have a very frustrated child! We drove straight to a toy shop to buy the Leapfrog rechargeable battery pack (around £29.99). We also bought the in-car charger (£9.99) and a set of headphones (12.99) while we were there. The Leappad came with a few apps and I couldn't resist putting a few more on, the apps start from £3.50, up to £20.00. Ended up spending over £90! The ultra E-books are great but a bit pricey at £15, I'd recommend them for younger children though. All in all, a fab toy, but what started out as a bargain turned out very expensive. It doesn't have to I suppose but it is soooooo temping to turn the basic product into something very special.

Great Product, would be 5 Stars if it came with a rechargeable battery or power lead
My 3 year old son absolutely loves this. It is really child friendly, tremendous fun and educational. Unfortunately it takes 4 AA batteries, and comes without a mains power lead. If you put rechargeable batteries in (believe me you soon will) you have to constantly take the back off and charge them which is a pain. If you want a mains lead you have to pay separately and this won't recharge the batteries. Leap Frog do make a recharger pack but they have been out of stock for so long now they are trading for £50 on Ebay! Shame really, as it lets down a great product, I would gladly have paid a bit more. Nintendo would never consider a DS with no charger or power lead.

Love it!
I bought this for my 4 year old for Christmas as his sister was fed up of him using her ipad. I wondered as he is so used to the ipad / iphone etc that this would be babyish for him but he loves it! I liked the educational aspect of it, whereby he can play games and learn at the same time and this is exactly what he does. It was easy to connect to the LeapFrog store and register and very easy to download extra games - although you do have to pay. I bought some cheaper ones for £3.50 initially and he loves them! The only downside is that once the batteries run out I am unsure whether we can run it via the charger from the mains - we have only had it one day and not got round to figure that out!

My daughter loves it!
My daughter us 4 and I brought her this for christmas, I didn't want an adult version tablet as I knew she would have trouble with the functions and with her leappad 2 she is able to function it with great ease and being a tablet aimed for children it is very child friendly and where she can play games but learn at the same time which is what I like about this device. It was easy to set up and I have already downloaded about 6 apps ranging from £3.50 to £20 in price. The disney apps and popular children's character apps tend to be more expensive but you can purchase some good apps for a lower price which will still be entertaining for children. As quite a few have said a lot of the apps are expensive but you can buy cheaper apps than £20 and for me I will be buying the more expensive apps as an every now and then thing. My daughter's favourite games are jewel train which comes with the device already and is quite a good popular game where the children have to use logic to problem solve, dice ahoy which I purchased and which is a number game where she can either play as a 2 player game with a friend or she can play against the pirate and roly poly 2 treasure hunt which also came with the device and she spends a lot of her time on this game which helps to teach them motor skills and number recognition. My daughter is only 4 and is already recognising numbers that are in to the 50s and beyond because of this game. I don't normally play games myself but have played on her leappad quite a few times as it is fun and my daughter and her dad even fight over who is going to play with it so for adults it can be quite fun to play with too. The only snags are the touch screen can be tempermental at times which is usually the case with most touch screen devices anyway and also the device eats batteries like you would not believe. It takes 4 AA batteries but they will only last an hour to an hour and half of continueous play so I have brought the AC mains plug and she plays with it attached to the wall now as she is not bothered just yet about being mobile and moving around with the device and is quite happy to sit down with it. You can buy leappad 2 rechargable batteries but these are quite expensive but is something I am looking at purchasing in the future if and when she wants to be mobile with it for when she gets in to using the camera and video recorder. This was my daughters main present and although she got plenty of other gifts she won't play with any of them but her leappad 2 and I have had t limit her play on it because given the chance and when she isn't at school she will easily be on it all day long as she loves it that much. What I also like about this device is the parent can go on the their leappad account to keep track of their child's learning and you can find out what games they have been playing recently and what they have learnt from playing those games.

Good for little ones
Bought this for my sons 3rd birthday and he's loved it. This has helped him with his alphabet and writing skills. Great for car journeys but batteries don't last buy the official recharge pack and save a fortune in batteries. Only thing to be aware of we took it on holiday but when it went through the xray machine it killed it. Had to wait two weeks till got home to see if could be fixed through official website. luckily it did put everything right so do register the device when bought as the official site is very helpful. Excellent product.

Toddler Tablet
Bought this for my 2 year old son as he is always trying to use my ipad. Great range of learning apps, games and e-books to keep him entertained and to introduce learning. It's recommended for ages 3 and up but he manages fine and I can see him using this for a couple of years to come so despite being a relatively expensive 'toy' I can see it offering good value for money in the long run.

Leappad2 is fantastic, great quality, did not disappoint!
i purchased the leappad 2 for my children for a 6 hour airplane ride. I also purchased the carrying case and the ac adapter. i have already purchased a rechargeable duracell battery system from costco so i brought that along as well. the leappad did exactly what i had hoped it would do. it is packed full of excellent apps, the art app and the pet pad keep the kids totally entertained. for our free app i downloaded rollie polly picnic and it's very cool. i really didn't want to be stuck with crazy kids on the airplane so i purchased some additional apps, honestly, i didn't really need to. after reading many reviews i purchased stretchy monkey because it is kindof like angry birds but educational and not angry, i also puchased mr. pencil saves doodleburg. from what i can tell, mr. pencil is the biggest hit but they play both. i also purchased two videos because i thought my almost 3 year old would like them but he's not really into screens at all. i purchased one e-book, the cinderella one (even though i have boys!) and they love it! the e-books are quite pricey, i felt like a bit of a fool buying it because really i should just be reading to them on the plane, but that being said i was blown away by the video quality of the book. it is also incredibly interactive... very very interesting. the whole system is very high quality, durable, the video quality is amazing. i'm so glad that i purchased this over an adult tablet or even the innotab. i've had luck with leapfrog products before, and this one certainly exceeded my expecations. i mean, if i bought my kids an adult tablet i would be concerned about them dropping it, scratching it, breaking it. the leappad is made to withstand tough kid treatment and i don't want to have to micro-manage them... kids drop things and it would be sad if a young child felt rotten and guilty for breaking an ipad or any other adult tablet. this leappad is theirs, they treat it well, it is designed to be used by young children. i am an outdoorsy hands-on mom and i set limits to screen time. i'm not big on electronics but this item certainly has a time and place and my kids are learning when they are playing. i couldn't be more pleased.

Fantastisch
