Product Description ------------------- Autumn mammoth 2 snowstar leek seed by Mr. Fothergill's. Hardy, quality leeks. First class strain to eat and to exhibit. Thick, sturdy white stems will hold in excellent condition all winter until ready to harvest. Useful Information: Suitable for exhibition and showbench; C; Iron; Folate. Sow and Grow: Outdoors: sow thinly March-April, in a seed bed, 1.5 cm (1/2-inch) deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-cultivated, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Water well until s are established. Trans, 15 cm (6-inch) apart, into 15 cm (6-inch) deep holes made with a dibber. Allow 30 cm (1 feet) between rows. Water seedlings, but do not fill holes with soil. Or sow indoors, January-February, 0.5 cm (1/4-inch) deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse. Keep moist. Trans 5 cm (2-inch) apart to other trays, when large enough to handle. Gradually accustom young s to outside conditions (avoid frosts) before ing out, May-July, into well-cultivated, fertile soil. Harvest: October-March. Hints and Tips: Apply high nitrogen fertiliser to your leek bed, just prior to ing them out in summer, to help them through a long growing season.
