My Workshop Buddy That Tells Me When the World Invades
I installed this in my garage workshop because I kept missing it every time someone came through the house door. Now I know the exact moment my concentration is about to be wrecked, which is somehow comforting. Setup genuinely took about three minutes. Plug the receiver into any standard outlet, peel the adhesive backing off the magnetic sensor, stick it to your door frame, and you are done. No wiring, no tools, no drama. The sensor just needs to stay within about 0.4 inches of the magnetic strip when closed, which is easy to get right. The 52 chimes are a surprisingly fun feature. You can go classic ding-dong or cycle through holiday tunes, classical snippets, and some options I cannot quite categorize. The volume goes from a polite whisper all the way up to 110 dB, which is loud enough to hear clearly across a large space. The mute mode with LED-only indicator is a thoughtful touch for nap time or quiet hours. Range tested well beyond what most home layouts would require. The unit remembers your chosen chime and volume after unplugging, which saves you from re-setting it every power blip. Battery life on the sensor will depend on usage but is rated for a high number of trigger cycles. An excellent value for a simple, reliable alert system.

Can struggle if many walls / distance in between... (UPDATED)
Very low price, and very capable. I bought this so I'd know when mail was delivered. The distance from the house to the mailbox is about 135 feet. I had to find just the right receptacle to plug the receiver in that would have the fewest walls between and be the closest. It wasn't my first choice for location, but it was the only one that would reliably receive the signal and chime. It's to be expected that most devices would have a hard time with dense structure between the sending/receiver units, so I wasn't disappointed. Just be advised you might have a location/installation that requires some adjustments and accommodation on your part. UPDATED 7/16/22: The literature that came with this unit claimed "15,000" uses on the supplied battery, though it didn't last that long. Somewhere around the one-year mark (I use it on my mailbox, so 6X per week or roughly 300 uses for the year) it stopped operating. Unfortunately the phamplet has zero information on the battery or how to replace it. No worries: pry the sending unit (transmitter) apart, and it takes a 23A battery (fairly cheap, and used for some garage door remotes and other doorbell units). Oddly enough I had one laying around so was able to replace it and the unit came back to life immediately. I used an Energizer battery as replacement (reasonably high quality battery), so will hope it lasts longer than one year. I'll try and remember to update this review when I have to again replace the transmitter battery.
