Our Dyson DC58 has officially entered its mythic era. At this point, the only original piece left is the main body — everything else has been swapped out over the years with perfectly proper replacement parts from Amazon, like some kind of heroic, ever‑renewing vacuum warrior. We bought it back in 2014, and I’ve kept it running out of equal parts pride and curiosity. This time, the dust bin sacrificed itself after a dramatic, slow‑motion fall to the floor that cracked the bottom latch. The replacement bin clicked into place flawlessly, no fuss, no weird fit issues, no “this feels off” moments. Just a clean, satisfying snap and my decade‑old vacuum was back in action like nothing happened. At this point, I’m convinced this DC58 will outlive us all …which, at this stage, makes it a walking (well, rolling) Ship of Theseus case study

It connected to our vacuum for about a month, then it started to fall off while vacuuming. After 3 months it no longer attaches at all, rendering it useless.

Our original Dyson dust bin broke on the button that opens the dust bin door. This was a great replacement and fit perfectly. It did break again in the same spot after a few months but it’s so cheap & effective that I’ve bought it again. It is a design flaw for this model of Dyson in my opinion.

Kept my vacuum working. Been 11 years now. Replaced the bin twice, battery twice and tube once.

Broke within 4 months

I’ve had the canister since July 1 and 4 months later the plastic clip that holds the canister door shut is broken off. I’d give durability a one star.
