Pilgrim Dye Colors Natural Fibers Liquid Dyes will color washable fabrics containing natural fibers such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, nylon, rayon and ramie. It does not dye 100% polyester well, but works fine for polyester blends of less than 35% polyester. To determine how much dye is needed, place the dry fabric in a dry dye pot, pail, plastic kitchen sized garbage can or large camping cooler. Note how high the fabric loosely sits in the dye container. Remove the dry material and measure how many gallons of water is necessary to pour into the dry container to reach the level that the dry material reached. It is imperative that the fabric must be totally submerged in the dye water the entire time while being stirred and soaked. Pre-wash items in warm, soapy water to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption. Shake the dye bottle well. Add dye a in TBS & tsp as indicated on the bottle label into the dry container. Slowly add very hot water to your container stirring thoroughly. Soak your fabric in hot water before dyeing it. Your fabric MUST remain totally, loosely, submerged in the dye water during the entire dyeing process to obtain a uniform color throughout! Stir the fabric frequently for 15 to 60 minutes or until your piece becomes the darkness that you desire. Shorter periods of time will result in more of a pastel shade while longer periods result in deeper stronger colors. Rinse your fabric in running cold water until the rinse water runs clear. Hang to dry or dry in a cool clothes dryer.
