Modern do-it-all bike. Great fun.
Great bike for the southeastern US where we don’t have a lot of steep downhills. 125mm is like 5 inches so calling this “short travel” is amusing to a GenX-er like me. Love the SRAM drivetrain so far - incredibly crisp and precise shifting. Only minor complaint is you will have to use a very small water bottle (try CamelBak Podium 15oz) or carry a camelback.

Total blast!
First saw it on woot but it was sold out by the time I pulled the trigger. Found it on Amazon for $200- less. Both were significantly less than the Canyon site where it’s on sale but only available in large. This was a replacement for a 20 year old mountain bike that was top of the line in its day. 29 inch wheels climb over obstacles without any issues. It came with simple platform pedals. Switched to spd for better power. Nits to pick: No remote lockout for the front fork (prior was rock shox Sid carbon) but can’t complain at the price point. Also the handlebars are wide. I like a narrower grip so I can get through narrow obstacles easier and use bar ends for a neutral grip.

Slack, Short-Travel, 29” Ripper!
If you’re looking for a slack, short travel, 29” bike, the Spectral 125 answers the call and is an incredible build for the buck! This bike is maybe a little niche but it has been exactly what I’ve been searching for. It has the stout build and slack geometry of the Spectral, but reduced travel for better climbing and a bit more trail feel. It eats up steep and rowdy descents and has me hooting and hollering all the way down!
