This does appear to be a legitimate Mitutoyo indicator. As with most Mitutoyo tools it is extremely smooth and well built. This model has a lug back. DOES NOT include limit markers as the listing states. (I believe only metric Mitutoyos come with limit markers) Does not come in a case, just a cardboard box with a plastic insert.

It Is a Genuine Mitutoyo Dial Indicator
This is a genuine Mitutoyo dial indicator and not a counterfeit that are now common. The external appearance shows high-quality machining/production. My certificate shows the same serial number that's on the tool, and I haven't seen that number used on others from photos I have found online. I pulled the rear cover, and the internals are identical to genuine Mitutoyo internals with almost all the gears being metal except what looks like one of the dial/needle gears might be plastic (or anodized black), but I can't get to it to really tell. The counterfeits have far fewer components inside and use a lot of plastic. I compared the measurements I got against a standard, and they are spot on.

Perfect for a toolroom or product machine shop environment.
Just bought this Mitutoyo drop dial indicator and I couldn't be happier with it. Its very well worth the money and its not built cheap like some " bargain" indicators that you'll find. I've already used it for indicating in lathe work, mill work and I.D.-O.D. grinding work as well. Very accurate. I would highly recommend this drop dial indicator to anyone.
