Sanford Meisner On Acting (Vintage) is a guide for those who want to polish their acting skills. Sanford Meisner is a hugely influential drama teacher and called “theater’s best kept secret”. The book takes its readers through a class of eight men and eight women as they undergo Meisner’s 15-month course at New York’s Neighbourhood Playhouse. Meisner has developed his own special lessons for teaching acting. The extensive transcripts are directly taken from Meisner’s notes to his students each of which are based on their exercises. Meisner was of the opinion that clarity of purpose and the efficient use of the psyche are an actor’s greatest tools. The book shows how the class of 16 men and women are taken through the most rudimentary exercises at the beginning and how the class ends with the ability to portray polished scenes from contemporary American plays. An insight of human nature and acting
Meisner is a bleessing to the acting world , and this book gives you what his technique is. Not only does it help you in acting but also in life. You are not the same person after you learn Meisner technique , although it takes 20 years to become an actor as per Meisner.

A must read for actors!
There's really nothing left to say about Meisner that has not already been said. I can see why he earned himself a name in drama. Here is the key thing I got from him - Acting is simplicity. Actors tend to over complicate things a lot. This is just an essential book for any aspiring actor! Buy it. It's practical as well.

Excellent
An excellent reference for both students and professional actors wanting to refresh their craft. It's a well thought out presentation - it takes you through a course of Meisner's classes, so it's not a tedious list of intellectual shpeak but examples in action, with comments both from Meisner and observations of him by the transcriber. This will be a well thumbed copy. Much easier read (and more effective) than Stanislavsky's bibles and provides the logic of why to keep away from the cliché Strasberg mal-interpretation of Stan's method/system. Highly recommended.

All theatre in 250 pages
I'm a theatre actor and never had I imagined that I would find such wisdom and such expertise in 250 pages. Meisner's technique represents an improvement , a huge evolution , a ...let me say...full embodiment of the principles outlined by Stanislavskji , focusing dramatically on human instinct and on truthfulness. I STRONGLY recommend this book to anybody who loves theatre.
