Excellent carpet cleaner. Worth every penny!
This thing is amazing! I had no intention of buying a carpet cleaner right now and it wasn’t yet time to shampoo my carpets (I do every 6 months) but recently my poor little dog got sick so I HAD to clean the carpets immediately. Wouldn’t you know it, my old shampooer quit working when I needed it most critically. So I bought this one. At first I wasn’t impressed. I couldn’t see the water coming out and the carpet didn’t appear very wet so I thought it wasn’t really doing much. THEN when it did the dry portion, I saw it working and was shocked at how much dirt came out of my carpet. Other than the areas where the dog got sick, my carpets appeared to be clean and not need shampooing yet. This told me this cleaner is getting the deep down dirt that can’t be seen on the surface and that my old shampooer was missing. And the dry time is awesome. It really picks up the water better than any I’ve ever used. I also love that I don’t have to mix the shampoo. It does it for me. The waste water tank is so large that I can cover a lot of area before having to empty it. In fact, I didn’t have to empty it until I was finished with the whole room and it still wasn’t full. The rinsing is crucial though. I ran out of time and didn’t rinse at first (had to come back and do it next day). Without rinsing, you can feel the soap residue on the carpet - it makes it feel rough instead of soft. It’s easy enough to take the soap container off and go back over it with just water. I LOVE that so many of the parts are removable for cleaning. It’s so easy to clean! And easy to reassemble the parts after they’ve dried. I also love that it has a dry only feature so I can go back and make sure I’m getting maximum water back out. One great thing about this is when I did the rinse, it was only pulling water back out. NO DIRT! That showed me it had gotten the carpet clean the first time! My only critique is that sometimes when I press the dry only button, I realize after a few minutes that it has jumped back into wash mode on its own and I’m putting more water back in when I didn’t mean to. I’m not sure if it times out or if it’s just a glitch. But I’ve learned to keep an eye on the button to catch that sooner. Otherwise this thing is great and I highly recommend. It really cuts down on the time it takes to shampoo the carpets and it does an excellent job. I’ve never been this impressed with a carpet cleaner before.

Super easy to run and clean!
Amazing quality!!! Worth the money 100%! I usually capet clean my place once a year, sometimes twice. The carpet cleaner is was using the hose stopped working. So I researched and found this one. It took half the time and got more sand and pet hair out of the floor than ever before. Seriously! Triple the amount of hair and sand! Most stains come right out even the old stains mostly. Red stains are iffy. The carpet looks better than it did 4 years ago! Also the cleaning part of it, super easy! The brushes just lift out and just a good wipe and rinse and its all good! Also I use 4x less soap as it measures it out for you! I will recommend this product to everyone! Amazing!

Great rug cleaner
My old rug cleaner needed a new belt which I couldn't find because they didn't make them any more., I ordered this one, it had good reviews and several otions I liked, and it lived up to the good reviews. Easy to assemble, good instructions on use. Super easy to take apart to thoroughly clean, a feature my old one did not have, so that was a game changer for me. It's not too heavy or cumbersome. Has good suction to lift a lot of the water from the carpet so it dries faster, you have to take your time and not rush this process or your carpet won't drive as well as it could. If your clean water tank runs out of water and you don't notice right away, there is a change in the sound of the motor to tell you your out of water. It does the same if the dirty water reservoir gets too full. I like that too. The only thing I saw that could be called a negative, is there are no buyable replacement parts, so through use if a belt breaks you can't get another to replace it . They do have a warranty you can buy to cover that. I am hoping the machine will last for many years of use. Very pleased with my purchase.

Very Good Carpet Cleaner
TL;DR This unit isn't perfect but it's an upgrade from my previous unit and the issues are minor compared to the benefits. I would recommend this and more relevantly would purchase it again if I needed a 2nd unit. Long Version I previously had a Hoover Powerscrub Deluxe that the water pump had stopped working on. Grabbed this unit on a prime day special and have been very pleased with how it functions and the design updates hoover has made between models. I stuck with the hoover brand because I have an assortment of hose attachments that are compatible with this new unit as well. Out of the box assembly was very easy and straightforward. Clich the handle into place and slide the different canisters into their slots. This unit has 3 separate tanks, compared to the previous model which had combined the solution and clean water tank into one piece. Generally you go through 2 water tanks for every cleaning tank. The brushes on the old unit required tools to remove for cleaning, on this new model the brushes just lift out of the vacuum so they can be cleaned much easier. One design choice that puzzles me is draining the dirty water tank is not easy. The previous unit had a drain plug on the tank, so when the tank needed to be emptied, you pulled the plug and then tilted the tank to dump the dirty water out. This new tank design just has a removable lid that also has the handle on it. So when you remove the lid to drain the tank you also remove the handle on the tank. The tank also has a lip around the top edge, which means when you dump it out, inevitably some dirt gets caught under the lip. That said, the old tank had many chambers inside it's design and was more difficult to rinse completely clean when done using the unit, this new tank is very easy to flush out before putting the unit away. The smartwash feature takes a little getting used to, the previous unit had a trigger to squeeze anytime you wanted it to dispense water/cleaning solution. This unit does it automatically when you push the unit forward. The is a Dry Only button to make it not dispense water, but it is ackwardly located in the middle of the unit. I wish they could have integrated that switch into the handle or put it next to the other foot toggle switches. They improved the design of the suction nozzle as well, it is much easier to see when you are picking up water from the carpet as well as if that water is clean or still dirty. The new unit seems to have a slightly longer cord, but it really need another 10 feet to be ideal. I always added a 25ft extension cord on the old unit for how my areas work out, that way I can route the cord around the perimeter and get the entire area without having to change outlets halfway through the room. My vacuum cleaner has a longer cord on it and that extra few feet makes a ton of difference. This unit seems a little quieter or at least the noise tone is different, the old unit had a slight shrill pitch to it, if you were using it for more than spot cleaning I'd end up putting on a noise canceling headset and listening to music. The previous unit had a switch on the clean water tank to make it dispense just water or a mix of cleaner/water. This unit doesn't have that feature, but you can just pull the small cleaning solution tank off the unit to do a final rinse pass. Really a nit-pick but worth noting.

Works great and super easy to use! Worth the $
Wow. Used this for the first time on our living room rug snd the water looks like swamp water. Our rug looks like new again and it smells so much better. This cleaner is super easy to use. Push forward to wash, pull back to dry. Pretty straightforward after use to clean it out. After seeing the dirt that came out of our high traffic rug, I will be using this quarterly at least! Definitely recommend and worth the money.

Finally, a carpet cleaner that actually is worth my time, money, and effort!!
I have cleaned my carpets with home cleaners for over 45 years. This one, by far, is my absolute favorite. It is the easiest to clean, has amazing water distraction, and is the only cleaner I have ever owned that left the carpet so dry, that it was ready to go in only 2 hours. Most only lasted about 6 times before become so clogged up by being hard to clean/unable to really get into to clean, and distraction got less with each use. Thank you Hoover Engineers. Highly recommended. Pays for itself right away...and the subsequent uses are free. I am pushing 70 and it is easy for even me to use....all 5'2"/120 pounds of me ;)

Multiple Headaches
I purchased my Hoover Smartwash direct from Amazon on Black Friday last year. (For some reason Amazon hasn't tagged my review "verified purchaser"!) This Smartwash deep cleans fairly well but it did more harm than good insofar as it dispersed the odor associated with a pet stain. In addition, I have encountered more trouble using this "easy clean" model in comparison to an older Hoover Spinscrub. The main drawback is the various parts that come apart and are easily damaged or lost. The rubber gasket that keeps the cleaning solution from running out got separated from the outer plastic cap and, being that it was lodged in the neck of the cleaning solution bottle, it made it so I couldn't fill it. Trying to pry the gasket out and then figure out how it was supposed to integrate with the exterior cap was a nightmare that required a tremendous amount of hand strength. Today I went to use my Smartwash and, having just filled the clean water reservoir, I lifted it out of the sink the entire contents began emptying on my floor as I began moving toward the vacuum. I quickly flipped it over and found that a stopper-type piece was missing from the bottom pass-through. (As an aside, the exploded parts diagram in the manual is so badly illustrated that it is useless. I had to use Google to view images of this reservoir before I could confirm that a part had indeed gone missing.) Perhaps I will find it laying in my garage somewhere but my fear is that this stopper may have gone down the drain as I was filling the clean water reservoir (in which case I may have plumbing problems!). Until I find it, the machine is unusable. (This after I already sprayed more than one kind of pre-treatment on my carpet stains that have made my house smell like a chemical factory!) As to the drying feature, the heat application is questionable. In all honesty, I don't know if it is applying any heat at all. It still takes my carpets about 5-8 hours to dry depending on how much I go over the same area to get it clean. As best I can tell, even when switched to the "dry only" mode, the suction that removes the liquids from the carpet primarily operates when the machine is pulled backwards, which is consistent with how it works in cleaning mode (forward is wash, backward is dry). The water is not heated by this unit so if you want hot water you have to fill it with hot water yourself. (Advertising non-existent "heat" seems to be a common ploy among carpet shampooers.) On this unit there is no spray trigger and there is no rinse-only setting. If you don't want soap dispensed, it's necessary to remove the soap dispensing bottle. After adopting a new dog in May, I had occasion to use this with a fresh (not dried) pet stain that I pre-treated with pet stain remover. The urine smell ended up all over my bedroom carpet and two months later, despite two attempts to remove it, I still smell it. (Rather than pulling the odor up, it just distributed the still-wet urine around the room despite having attempted to spot clean it beforehand.) Perhaps this is unavoidable but no matter if I pre-treat or use the Hoover pet shampoo, pet urine stains eventually reappear on my carpets. (The few I have managed to permanently remove required multiple attempts with numerous combinations of products to spot treat the area.) This machine is certainly lighter weight and easier to clean than the old Spinscrub model but it also seems to be more finicky about how parts go back together. While using the machine, I have had occasions where I have emptied the dirty water reservoir and not had my suction restored. On one occasion it took me resetting the reservoirs about four times before the suction finally kicked in. Much of my home has wood-look laminate, which is the reason I went with this Smartwash upgrade — in the hope of having less puddling beneath the machine when I pause to empty out the dirty water or to refill the clean water reservoir. My hand-me-down Spinscrub had begun leaking quite badly on the floor whenever I "parked" it. This new one doesn't leak as badly but I was nonetheless frustrated to find that it still drips enough to create a hazard for my floor lifting. Every time I use this carpet shampooer on my area rugs I have to chase it with a old towel because it leaves the edges of my floor and the thresholds to my carpeted bedrooms far too wet. All in all, I think the Smartwash design is overrated. It takes twice as long to wash and dry the carpet because you're washing and drying simultaneously. My impression is that this unit puts down too much water too fast and that without the reverse "dry" function, it would be apparent just how badly it is saturating the carpets. It takes forever to dry the carpet given the lack of heating and the fact that the suction is only really effective when the unit is pulled backward — meaning only about 50 percent of your arm movements counts toward drying. On a positive note, I appear to have been spared catastrophic failure. (Reviews elsewhere have reported the rollers binding up, possibly due to corroded bearings, after which the non-replaceable belt burns up.) In conclusion, I think I would like this unit a lot more if the parts that attach to the plastic reservoirs would not separate improperly, fall off or get lost. Hoover never seems to have spare parts for this model stock so in damaging the rubber gasket on the cleaning bottle and losing the rubber stopper that keeps the clean water from running out of the bottom of the reservoir, I am forced to replace the entire receptacle, not just the part I need (and even used on a well-known auction site, the parts aren't cheap). Negatives aside, it does seem to deep clean the carpets rather well judging by how much blackened wastewater it pulls up. Update: I reduce my review from two stars to one based on this Smartwash nearly electrocuting my spouse today. I bought this on Black Friday 2019. It has been used about seven times to clean carpet in my home. I don't have wall-to-wall carpeting so I would say that the amount of use on this has been moderate, at best.. Today it began to throw sparks while I was standing on wet carpet in bare feet because the electric cord worked it's way out of the back of the unit and had become partially detached (the first symptom was that the motor was cutting out intermittently). I called in my spouse who immediately went to try to push the electric cord a quarter of an inch back into the unit while it was "off" due to the electricity cutting off the motor, only for it to roar back to life and begin sparking just in time for me to shout "STOP! It's plugged into the wall and the carpet is wet!" (electricity + arcing + water, probably not a good combination!). This product should not have become an "Amazon Choice"! When you look closely at the manufacturer ID plate affixed to the unit you will see it is not manufactured by Hoover but for Hoover by a Chinese conglomerate. I expected, based on other reviews, that there could be problems with the rollers binding, the bearings stripping out and the non-replaceable belt breaking — because that seems to be the main route of failure with this model per web reviews — but to have an electrical problem with the cord was completely unexpected (hadn't snagged the cord on anything either). The only thing I can speculate to for the cause of the cord working loose internally is because the cord mounts right next to the hook where you wind the cord for storage. Simply winding the cord around the hook was enough to put strain on the connection and work it loose over time. Winding the cord too tightly around the hook might be a case of "user error" but it should not be *easy* for a hardwired electric cord to detach internally and begin to dislodge, posing an electrical/fire hazard. Hoover needs to perform their own manufacturing, instead of allowing third party manufacturers to use their branding, and relocate production to the United States, Mexico or elsewhere in North America. This isn't the first time an Amazon-based purchase has posed a serious safety hazard. Last year, an egg cooker I purchased on Amazon without any warning arced all the way back to my electrical outlet where it fried a Belkin surge protector and the outlet itself, nearly sparking an electrical fire — after which I had to call an electrician and pay a hefty bill for an emergency call (to ensure no smoldering was going on elsewhere in my home wiring). I'd pay more to get a North American-built product. Is Hoover ever going to build one again?

Great new design that works easily
Finally, someone designed an easy to use carpet cleaner that works amazingly well! This makes quick work of shampooing carpets, is lightweight enough to handle easily, and extracts dirt like a carpet cleaner should. This moves easily, puts down the cleaning solution and extracts the water from the carpet very well. I have used carpet cleaners my entire adult life and this is the first one I have been happy to break out to use often.

excellent product
BRILLIANT! My husband uses it as he enjoys using something new, hope he doesn't tire of it as I enjoy not having to do it. He says its the best carpet cleaner he has ever tried and so easy to use. The rooms smell so clean and fresh after he does them with this cleaner so I love it too. we have had carpets cleaned professionally and it takes a couple of days to dry and smells awful. The Hoover smart wash leaves the carpet clean and nearly dry, IT ALSO GETS ALL THE CATS HAIR UP. when you go forward it washes the carpet and when you pull back it dries. when finished you can put it on the dry cycle and dry it even more. HE SAYS ITS VERY EASY TO CLEAN AS WELL. As He says BRILLIANT! Lorraine Australia

excelente
