Solid vocal mic
I'm using this mic with a simple XLR to USB adapter for online meetings instead of the built in mic on my webcam. It has made a huge difference and I've had comments about my good audio quality. This is not a super high-end mic for recording applications, but for online meetings, it is excellent and the quality is way better than a webcam mic. I chose the 845 over the 835 because of the super cardioid pattern which I thought would be a bit better at rejecting sound from the room, or from the computer speakers, focusing just on my voice. Also, I found that this version, the one with the switch, was a bit cheaper so even though I really don't need the switch, I saved a few dollars. For my application, online meetings, there's no need to get a more expensive microphone. This has super high durability great audio quality at an affordable price. PROS: * "Built like a tank" * Super cardioid pattern great for off-axis rejection like room noise or computer speakers * Understated look CONS: * Not a super high-end microphone but great for basic vocal applications I've used many microphones for multiple applications over the years. I was tempted to buy a much more expensive microphone for my online meetings, but realized that no one would notice the difference between an $80 mic and a $500 mic, so I decided to go with a tried and true basic workhorse. The look of this mic is understated and not distracting. This was a perfect purchase for my use case and is working quite well.

Excellent build quality & performance
I just received the Sennheiser e845S microphone. My decision to purchase it was based upon my experience and use of a Sennheiser e835 microphone I've been using for about 2 years. I'll start with the build quality. Sennheiser makes a good looking, solid product that stands up well to regular use. The weight, feel and balance in my hands is just what I want in a vocal mic. It compares equally or even slightly better than a Shure SM57 or SM58. I have used both Shure products side-by-side with the Sennheiser and find that the overall tone and voice reproduction of the Sennheiser is clearer and replicates my nuanced inflections more naturally. I wanted an on/off switch and the e845S fits that requirement. The switch is large, ergonomically correct, and does not emit a noise when switching it on or off. Now that my music journey is beginning to take shape, the addition of a second vocal microphone is needed. I play harmonica mostly and have specific mics for them, however, I often like to play through a vocal microphone for a purer, melodic sound at times. Both of my Sennheiser microphones work well, are simple to use, durable like a tank and look outstanding.

Amazing microphone
I got this for my girlfriend who is a solo singer/guitarist. She had to turn the gain down on everything she owned because the power of this microphone made every thing clip leaving settings the same from her Shure SM58. The amount of "out of cone" noise cancellation is extremely impressive. I was recording my girlfriend with a cheapish studio Condenser microphone (MXL V67G), but I have since started recording her with this instead. The sound is very transparent, as it doesn't seem to emphasize the mid or upper tones like a lot of live microphones seem to do. I was thinking about a preamp as a gift, but don't think I need to as of now. She uses the switch, so it was a worthwhile $20 upgrade. I've not heard a pop from the switch, so it is a very nice quality feature. It's large and has a fair amount of resistance, so I don't think it would accidentally toggle. My girlfriend uses the microphone on a tripod, so this wouldn't be a decent measure of how easily it would accidentally "turn off". I highly recommend this for a single singer, but not a shared microphone; the out of cone noise cancellation is uncanny.

Excellent for the money!!!
Trust me, I'm not a company salesman, or connected at all to the seller nor Sennheiser. However, I think Sennheiser mics are one of the best mics for singing pop music. They have this bright, crispy sound that you can't get on a SM58 without eq-ing. They cut through the song like diamond dust and glitter (yeah, how do you express sound into image?) I researched about mics, and a friend of mine had Shure SM58's which are still used as backing vocal mics. Those mics give a good mid range, but aren't good for cutting in a song where a lot of piano or electric guitar is used. The Sennheiser E-series cut through like butter. Enough bottom end, not overly mid-range-ey, and a tad of brightness. No sharpness to the sound. It's the mic, how I always have imagined a good mic to sound. Works excellent with older sound systems. The problem with older sound systems is, that they usually use Shure SM58's, that are by nature more mid range-ey, and the speakers often lack bass, or treble. The Sennheiser does well in straightening that curve somewhat, to not let the voices sound too mid ranged, with having only ample brightness, or low end. For me it was clear I wanted a Sennheiser mic. Only which one? Sennheiser had 3 vocal mics that where entry mics, sounding so much better than 2x $$$ the pro mics of 5 to 10 years ago! I read some reviews, and basically the entry mics where dull (SM58) sounding. The mid class was by some people's words, a bit too bright. The top series of the E-series mics (the 800 series) seemed to have the right balance of brightness and warmth. In my case I needed a stage mic, where feedback was imminent. This mic has a Anti-feedback mechanism. It's better not to have this for studio, but for live, where feedback can disturb the atmosphere from time to time, it's really necessary to have. It makes this mic the best of all sound wise, as well as more focused towards the live singer! On top of that the -S on the back indicates it has a much desired on-off switch. All you could want in a live, on stage mic! My advise? If you're a singer, you should have at least one Sennheiser E-845 mic, as well as one Shure SM-58 mic in your arsenal. The shure mic might sound better for backing vocals. But this mic just sounds wonderful, and cuts through the band wonderfully well, in a way that the shure doesn't. So get both!

Clearer and Stronger!
Much better than my old Shure SM 58. I'm not a sound engineer, but my voice definitely sounds much clearer and stronger with the same board settings as my 58. The Super Cardioid pattern focuses in on my voice. I play guitar and keep my amp nearby, to my right and a little behind me, and this mic does a good job of excluding my amp and other stage sounds. The whole design and quality of this mic allows my voice to cut through the mix. I can finally really hear myself through the floor monitor. And when I speak to the audience between songs, they don't hear the familiar muddy boominess of the 58. Our bass player, who also sings through an SM 58, heard it for the first time and offered to buy it from me on the spot! This Sennheiser E-845 is highly recommended.
