Review: Fantastic Clean Eating - This will be long bc I think that’s the only way to fairly review it. 1- The book is very easy to follow, and organized extremely well. 2- You are provided with a shopping list at the beginning that helps you understand what to always have on hand in your fridge/ pantry. Specific items used for only one recipe will need to be additionally purchased (i.e. chicken thighs, fresh fish). I didn’t think any of the items were particularly hard to find and I live in a medium sized town with no Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or easily accessible organic market. 3- The variety of recipes that are genuinely delicious and clean is generous compared to my experience with other cookbooks. 4- There are a variety of recipes for basics included. Unless you’re a seasoned pro, you’ll probably find instructions on how to braise chicken or make stock properly helpful. I did. 5- This book is well balanced with vegan and non-vegan recipes. Many of the non-vegan recipes can certainly be easily altered. The vegan recipes, I’m sure, would be delicious if you tossed in a meat of your choice if that’s what you prefer. 6- Every recipe is full of flavor. Very impressive. 7- I consider the “cleanses”, advised by doctors specializing in the area specific to each type of cleanse, bonus content. The book could easily stand alone without them. 8- The quality of the book itself, paper, photos, cover, is very good. This was the first cookbook by Gwyneth Paltrow that I’ve purchased, and it’s definitely made me curious to try her other books as well. Review: Recipes are delicious and simple. - God book for healthy lifestyle. Recipes seem well tested and outcomes are successful.

Gwyneth is a God
You heard me, and I’ll say it again. I cannot with this book. It’s biblical in its goodness. Ingenuity and humility (ok maybe not all the pics of herself, but with the minimal ingredients and effort—yes) all in one. I’m a mom of two and have been looking for something like this all my life. **Simple**, healthy, easy to put together, nutrient dense ingredients that just make sense for trying to feed yourself and family better. I don’t kill myself over any of these recipes and I feel like bomb diggity afterwards because they taste so good and are so good for you, most are so pretty, and my family has yet to complain! I am actually cooking more because it doesn’t drain me. I have spent a stupid amount of hours sifting through recipe blog after recipe blog, google searching “simple healthy family recipes” only to land on so many overcomplicated, under-nourishing casseroles filled with cheese. I’M DONE WITH THAT NONSENSE. Gwyneth has saved my life and my health and sanity and family. I’m not even kidding you I’m sleeping better AND I LOOK FORWARD TO COOKING. It’s a miracle. Also the cleanses at the end and interviews are just a really nice informative touch. In my dreams the Goop team and Gwyneth read this review. I love it that much. Thank you, ilysm, I don’t care what anyone says about you, you did your work here and it really shows.

Clean eating, doable recipes
I love Gwenny's "it's All Good". I loathe her book "It's All Easy" (except I do admire the wallpaper on pg. vii). This third cookbook, The Clean Plate is pretty respectable. There are some very original recipes here, and most of them are on the edge of what is new, hip and healthy to eat-- think SAKARA life eating at a more affordable level. Her recipe for Black Rice Pudding with Coconut Milk & Mango sent me to the moon and back. I've also really enjoyed the Turkey Burgers and the Chicken & Cabbage Dim Sum. I didn't find any of these recipes too complicated. I also enjoyed reading the health experts views on Fat Flush, Heavy Metal Detox, Adrenal Support and Candida Reset. If you like a California-style take on food, you are sure to enjoy this book!

Gwyneth nailed it again!
Say what you want about GP, but she is amazing. This book is proof of why so many women like me find her inspiring and keep on supporting her. She knows what's going on in our lives, what our concerns are, what we are interested in. I read this book and wondered how she could have been listening to my conversations with friends for the past year or two, and how she knew what my New Year’s resolutions were in order to write a book especially for me. I really don’t get it why it became a national sport to criticize GP. She could have chosen to live in an ivory tower, totally removed from the day-to-day life of us, peasants. She could have rested on the laurels of her past successes (hey, she is an Oscar-winning actress!), living as a spoiled, pampered celebrity. But she was brave enough to put her acting career aside to try luck in completely different areas new to her, only to follow her passion. Very few people can say that. So, why hold it against her that she is beautiful, rich, and privileged? More power to her! She had fewer incentives than any of us to get out of her comfort zone. Unfortunately, I cannot relate to her glamorous lifestyle, but I don’t resent her for that. Instead, I relate to her as a working mother, as a woman who makes brave choices instead of easy ones, and who works hard on becoming a better person every day. Now, on to this book. One of the reasons I think GP is successful at everything she sets her mind to is that she does not cut corners. The format, pictures, and overall quality of the book is a treat. The content is even better. Nowhere in the book you find any dairy, gluten, red meat, processed foods, sugar, or soy. Yet, you can feed any of the recipes to someone who is not concerned about clean-eating and they won’t even notice that they happen to be healthy. The book also includes a section with interviews to top doctors about different cleanses, that I found helpful. I already tried several recipes from “The clean plate” and I am sure they will join my repertoire of family favorites, together with several recipes from her previous book, “It’s all good”. Full disclosure: I do not tell my family when a recipe comes from Gwyneth since they belong to that big group of people who are not big fans of her. Oh, well…

This book ends up doing too little by trying to do too much
I have all of Paltrow's other cookbooks, including "Spain" which was co-written with Mario Batali, and I've enjoyed making many recipes out of all of them, with the exception of the miso salad dressing.in My Father's Daughter. Unfortunately, with this book, I'm just not feeling it. It seems to be trying to address too many dietary niches and by the end of reading it, I was thoroughly confused, especially by the cleanses. One cleanse recommends fermented foods, while another says to avoid them, so if I do those cleanses back to back, do I cancel out the first one? The recipes exclude the following: alcohol, caffeine, dairy, gluten, nightshades, peanuts, processed foods and sugars, red meat, and soy. I get most of that and avoid more than half of those things myself, but avoiding all of those is quite restrictive and the end result is that the book is pretty thin on recipes that have any overall appeal and pretty heavy on white space, and full page photos. Speaking photos, there are lots of full page photos of: page after full page of the food; the food in close-up; vegetables presumably used in the recipes, both in close-up and artfully arranged on pieces of slate; palm trees in close-up; palm trees far away; other plants; water in close-up; water far away; foamy water; Paltrow in various poses eating and preparing food; close-ups of Paltrow's hair in focus and out of focus; and so on. There do not seem to be as many pages for recipes, and some of the recipes, like the one for Roasted Chicken that calls for a chicken and salt and another for Camomile Mint Tea, that calls for camomile, mint and water, seem to have been put in just to fill up space. On thing to point out - as a substitute for dairy, and in one case miso, Paltrow uses aquafaba, which is literally the goopy liquid in chickpea cans. Although I've generally been one to embrace eating things at times when they were considered controversial - such as whole milk yogurt, coconut oil and other saturated fats - I have read enough about aquafaba to be reasonably leery of it. Probably because it's such awful-looking stuff to begin with, but there are also a number of forward-thinking nutritionists who do not recommend using it, and I'm leaning that way too. All in all, this is a pretty disappointing book and that makes me sad. I wanted it to be more useful to me. There are a few recipes that I will try, but not really enough to justify taking up space on my cookbook shelf.

Good Healthy Cookbook
The Clean Plate has several good recipes. I love the boyfriend frittata and make it several times weekly using only egg whites. I appreciate Gwyneth’s foray into cooking and sharing her achievable healthy recipes. Also I enjoyed the Ayurvedic medical advice at the end of the book.

Get this Clean Eating Classic!
I love this book!! I have been on a one year health journey, studing functional medicine and looking at food as medicine to help heal some of my health issues (bloat, reflux, yeast, weigh gain, anxiety, fatigue, etc) that have plagued me in my late 30’s. I have come across all of the doctors she has referenced several times in my reading and am impressed with their work. I also see a functional medicine MD who has recommended much of what she and the doctors talk about, so I know this is the latest and greatest in the field (and my appointments aren’t cheap, so why not get this book for yourself as a place to start?). What I love is how this book highlights the doctors’ most valuable advice and puts it all in one place as a convenient resource for us. And let’s talk about the recipes! They look and sound amazing! I’ve been struggling to find recipes that satisfy elimination diet requirements and that sound tasty, and she sure gave us some (eggless frittatas made with cauliflower, peas and Indian spices that evoke thoughts of samosas - YUM)! The recipes seem pretty simple to make too and she uses ingredients readily available these days. My favorite Christmas gift! Can’t recommend it enough - especially if you are looking to heal yourself with food. I also love her welcoming, warm, supportive tone. To the complainers: if you want a pound cake recipe, purchase a title from Ina (no disrespect here). I, for one, predict this cookbook will be embraced and recommended by many health care practitioners looking to help their patients feel better. I think it will become a classic in the clean eating cookbook genre!

Another great GP cookbook!
Easy and clean recipes for just about any diet. I really enjoy all her cookbooks though, so if you have bought and disliked her other books you may not like this one either.
