This Kayak hoist or lift is ideal for storing your kayak out of the way in your garage or store. We have tested this to 50Kg so you can be sure it will take the heavier kayaks and canoes. Similar products get poor reviews for having poor fittings and for not being secure using hooks that could drop the kayak. With this hoist you get a full 80mm snap hook so you can be sure nothing will fall. Likewise with the fittings we send, we send you stainless wood screws sourced here in the UK and we also send you stainless M6 machine screws/washers and nuts to give you many fitting options.In our example we have secured the roof brackets with the 6 machine screws to a piece of wood 20mm thickness. We then attached the wood length across the joists in the garage with wood screws. For an even stronger solution you could use coach bolts to secure the wood to the joist. We spaced the two roof brackets approx the same spacing as the kayak cockpit. If you space them further apart the straps can slip off the ends of the kayak. Our joist are 8ft 4 inches High, With the hoist raised to its maximum there was a 12 inch gap between the roof bracket and bottom of the snap hook. There was a 6ft 2 inch clearance from floor to the bottom of the kayak when its fully raised . Alternatively you can fit the roof brackets directly into the joist using the supplied stainless screws. For our hoist we used 1 standard kayak roof strap for 1 attachment and used the kayak ( Pyranha Fusion ) security attachment point behind the seat. By using a kayak strap you can fully adjust it to get a secure fit. Alternatively you could use a second strap to lift. The straps we send with the strap option are the same kayak roof straps we sell . They are heavy duty have the protective material for the buckle. For open canoes you may want to consider the 5m straps instead. We understand that our customers may already have kayak straps so we have given you the option to take the hoist WITHOUT straps.
