I have been searching for a cable that would let me use my late model 2009 27" iMac as a target display monitor for my HP ProBook as well as my MacBook Air. This cable works perfectly. All you do is plug it in and press Command + F2 and the screen of the connected laptop is displayed on the iMac. Press Command + F2 to switch back and forth between the laptop screen and the iMac screen. The cable and connections appear to be very well made. StarTech support is also very helpful and responds quickly if you have questions.

Didn't work for me
Didn't work for me. Tried connecting a late 2012 iMac to a 2019 MacBook pro.

This cable works !
Was able to connect an old 27 inch iMac to a newer 2019 Mac air to use in target display. Only thing is I ordered the 6ft and I will be getting the 3ft cord instead. Sometimes sound doesn't play from the iMac but you just have to disconnect and plug the cable back in. Simply worked! I had tried many cables before and yup! This did it.

Not Thunderbolt compatible as stated 🤦🏾
The title and description said these cables were supposed to be thunderbolt compatible, but when i connected it to my new Universal Audio Apollo Twin X interface it didn't recognize it on my Mac that only has thunderbolt 2 ports. I had to buy a Thunderbolt 2 to 2 cable, and a Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter for the interface to recognize my interface. I will be sending the cable back soon though.

Exactly the cable I needed to connect to my StarTech 2 port Mini DisplayPort KVM switch
Works perfectly between my Dell Latitude 7490 laptop with my Dell P2415Q 4K display which is connected via StarTech 2-port KVM switch (which uses Mini DisplayPort). Connected from USB-C port on my 7490 to the Mini DisplayPort port on my KVM.
