Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam

I used this on a pair of leather Birkenstock booties I found at Goodwill. The leather had a grayish cast to it and I wasn’t sure it was fixable, but after treatment with Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam, they look beautiful! I would say better than new and they feel soft and conditioned. Waterproof as well. Highly recommend this product!

So. I’m being extremely generous with 5 stars right now because I’m having full faith that this stuff is going to be amazing and bring my husbands boots back to life.That said, this canister is small!!! And only half full .. I read the other reviews prior to ordering.. but wow! I wasn’t expecting it to be this small.. $12 is $12.. if it works, money well spent to revive his $150 boots.. if it doesn’t - well.. lesson learned and $12 lost.I’ll update after he uses to provide how amazing it is ;)

I bought my first pair of Dr. Martens soon after my first real job. I’ve been using the Wonder Balsam since. Although I’ve been had any issues breaking in my boots or shoes I wanted to make sure they lasted as long as possible. The wonder balsam helped me keep them looking good for a long time.I eventually bought more docs throughout the years (my feet grew after childbirth) this has been my go to project.I use them on my leather handbags & even my Ugg boots.I find that it’s best to use once a month if you’re wearing your boots more than a few times a week & my leather handbags at least every 6 months depending on how often you change your bags. Just wait a day or two after treating your bags. I have vintage handbags that are still in perfect condition thanks to this balm. Oh, I almost forgot. It has little to no smell. I highly recommend that you never go without this, but remember that it doesn’t go bad if by chance you slack off on your shoe & handbag treatments. This is a must for any shoe lover.UPDATE with photos. I love this pair of boots. Although they aren’t docs, they’re several years old & have been good for me. This balsam is exactly what I needed for my boots. It was really nice that this balsam moisturized and conditioned the leather of both pairs of my Docs and left the leather looking nicer and more supple. Will never go another day without this stuff!!!

I own a pair of church vintage monkeys that I bought back in February of this year.I pretty much brought them wherever I went, because they were comfortable, seemingly durable, and I liked how they look. Plus, I'm not buying a pair of 140 dollar shoes just to keep in the house all day.I went on walks with my dog almost everyday, went back and forth from school, put them through blizzards, pouring rain, hikes, flooding... And I'm proud and pleased to say that they still look great.If I lose these pair of boots I'd cry for a year.I'm not afraid of scuffing, scratching, creasing- nah, my boots, my power. But I wanted to take care of them the best I could, because god knows that accidentally stepping into a pile of my dogs poop isn't gonna do good to them.Dr Martens wonder basalm comes in a rather small container. It's halfway filled, due to the other half of it storing the little sponge they give to you. It seems like enough for maybe a year or two, but I'm not sure.I followed the instructions on the Dr martens website (google "how to use wonder basalm") and bam: boots covered in wax. The only complaint I have is that the wax smells like a gas station (oil, car wax), and the container was a little dissapointing, but other than that, I'm satisfied.My boots are shiny as hell and the creasing softened. The scratched have largely gone away and the scuffs partially. It's not a miracle worker, but it does seem to make your boots better. IMO it does better on non creased leather by making it more shiny and smooth.Now I just need to figure out how to clean my laces.

I am pleased with this products performance. I have used it on leather jackets old & new. It definitely gave some new life to aged & worn leather. I have used this on shoes, purses, & leather wrapped decor. I have not had a bad experience with it yet. Once it dries, the leather looks close to its original finish/ sheen. It doesn't leave much of a greasy look or feel as long as you don't use too much.

I have owned Doc Martens since the early 90's (1460 - 8-eye and 1490 - 10-eye). I always broke in my boots the hard way, through pain and blisters. This product takes ALL of that away. So much in fact that I forgot I was wearing new (10-eye) boots. Within just a couple days my Docs felt totally broke in. Now after doing some research on leather care, this will be my absolute go-to or breaking in and maintaining leather shoes/boots of any kind.The leather on Doc Martens is very stiff when you first get a new pair. If you rub this into the *INSIDE* part of the leather with a horsehair dabber or small brush you will begin to notice the difference immediately. Make sure to get all of the leather on the inside (do not apply to the cloth areas inside the toe box or on the heel). If done correctly you will not notice any residue/wax on your socks after the first wear or two, if any at all.After the initial break-in period is over you can apply this to the outer leather after cleaning with a damp cloth and before polishing.Additionally, you should use this about once a month to maintain the leather, so it doesn't crack. It is very easy to use and has little to no smell. This product does not offer any waterproofing or protection for the leather; you will need additional polishes for that.

Honestly, I didn’t even know I was supposed to condition my Dr. Marten boots every month. I only discovered this product as I was getting ready for another Canadian winter and remembered my boots weren’t looking or functioning as good as the day I bought them—which was sometime in the 2010s.Only thing I have to say is that it does what you expect! I followed the video procedure of coating my boots from the official Dr. Marten’s website, but bought the product directly from Amazon since I couldn’t be bothered to purchase a big order just for free shipping when I only intended to try this product.I know other reviews have stated that there could be more product if not for the sponge taking up half the container, which I do agree could be packaged differently to give customers more product for their money. However, I used a generous amount on my boots and I’m pretty sure it barely made a dent. Take it with a grain of salt, I only used this once and haven’t yet needed to re-apply the coating per the 1-month recommendation. Either way, it would be nice to have more for something we’d have to use frequently.I did note that the sponge applicator was a bit difficult to grasp (with gloves) while rubbing it on the boots since it’s a bit small, but I think any old kitchen or thick sponge can do just as well with a bit more elbow grease.Aside from the quantity, I’m happy to say that it really did revive the old and parched leather. I hadn’t noticed how matte the leather became until I saw the side-by-side comparison!! I guess that’s why I began having issues with my boots no longer being as weather-proof, since there was no barrier between the water/snow/salt. I considered purchasing new boots to replace these ones but quickly realized that all it needed was some TLC with the Wonder Balsam. Glad to have made my purchase, and will be relying on this to keep my boots going for many more years to come.
