Great, cost is good we plan to buy a few more.
I did a lot of research before buying this with my husband out in the cold most of the time he needed something that really would keep him warm. He is very pleased and won’t leave home without it. In the home he said it keeps him so warm you can’t stand it. Out in the cold he stays very warm and dry. This year has been a very bitter winter in VA this is a must if you are out in the cold. It is great for hunting, fishing, playing and working. The size fits great from him to me it fit snug, l love that you can use it in many different ways coving what part of your head or face you want. You can wear a hat with it, it isn’t too bulky I was worried about breathing with this you have no trouble it is vented very well making breathing easy but still keeps wind out. Which is a big issue with me I have to be able to breathe easy or I feel like I am suffocating. My husband wears glasses and so far he does not have any issues, if this becomes a problem I will update. Bottom line it keeps your head and face warm through any cold weather that we have come across. Fits snug, light weight, easy to put on, you can wear it many different ways for whatever your needs are. Able to breathe easy, keeps the wind out, does not obstruct your vision. Well worth the money. We plan to put one or two in each of our cars so we have one with us at all time.

Quality & Performance for the Cold Weather Rider
Pros: Quality Construction Excellent Wind Protection Breathable Mesh Reduces Fogging Of Glasses/Goggles Thin And Warm Making For Comfortable Use With Motorcycle Helmet Cons: Haven’t Found Any I ride motorcycle throughout most of the year in the northern part of Virginia. As long as the temperature is above 35 degrees Fahrenheit and the roads are clear, it’s a day to ride. But, on a cruiser like mine, with no windshield, faring or, anything else to deflect the cold wind and, preferring to ride with nothing but a half-shell helm and riding glasses, you have to have something to keep those icy winds from direct skin contact or, your ride isn’t going to be all that comfortable. I purchased and tried a handful of different balaclava, some of those being far more expensive, before finally finding the N-Ferno 6823. And, none of those others even came close to offering the same levels of warmth, comfort and functionality. At 35 degrees, traveling at and sometimes (well) above highway speeds, over 50 miles in the pre-dawn hours to get to work. Wearing nothing but my half-helm, riding glasses and this balaclava, my face/head is well protected from the cold wind. Do I feel the cold? Sure, on my face I do. But, is it teeth chattering cold or, even numbing cold. Not at all. Honestly, I feel more cold penetrate through my multi-layer riding gloves than my face feels behind just this single balaclava. If you’re a cold weather rider like me and you’re looking for a quality piece of headgear to keep those chilly winds off your bare skin, you can’t go wrong with this balaclava. And, at such an incredible price, you can buy 2 (or more) so, you can always have one ready while washing another.

Worth It, But Black Colorfasts On Skin So Far
1-6-17 I'm reviewing the N-Ferno 6823 Thermal Fleece headwear in Black. My main reason for purchasing, was to protect my face from the high winds when doing outdoor labor. I do a multitude of tasks outdoors. I'm a mobile mechanic that works on site out in the elements. As other technicians know, it's not a very active job. A lot of time under the hood or under a vehicle... same goes when working on equipment. That frigid air goes right through you, and if hit in the face, it takes your breath away. I also help a groundskeeper at an estate, which can be just as inactive, but even when you are active, your face can freeze! Well, I have tried other styles of face/neck warmers but have not quite found one I like too much. My preferred type was the bandana with velcro in back at the nape of my neck, but it twists too much or too suffocating when worn for long periods (I can't stand to have my mouth and nose covered too long). I'm the type person that needs fresh air, I can't even sleep with my head under the covers... my nose MUST be out. OK, so this covers how particular I am. I now think this is my preferred headgear. When wearing the full face, I find that their nose and mouth guards are MUCH more breathable than anything I've tried in the past but also warm enough that I can catch my breath. However, I more commonly wear it on my chin keeping my mouth and nose clear. When the wind kicks up, I just slide the chin over my nose. I love the fact the hat just stays put. It doesn't twist on me too much... the only issue is the top of my hat/head walks back on me due to the hoodie. I'm a girl, with shoulder blade length hair, so the trick to wearing this is putting my hair up in a low bun. If my hair is in a pony tail or down, it eventually walks to my mouth or cheeks, which is quite aggrevating in the middle of a job. I usually wear a bandana on my head underneath, whether I'm wearing this N-Ferno Hat or any other thermal hat, skully, etc. It just seems to help with keeping the hats from sliding all over the place. I'm giving the N-Ferno headgear 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact that it's colorfasting on my skin. So at the end of the day I need to scrub my face and neck... it's causing blackheads and tinited skin. I'm hoping that washing it with White Distilled Vinegar will help with that and 2 or 3 more washes. It's my only peeve with this thing, and if it doesn't improve, I'll be dropping another star. I can't have outerwear causing blackheads or any other skin issues. That's ridiculous. I did buy 2 of these, by the way. One for myself and one for my daughter. She's experiencing the colorfasting too, and she thoroughly agrees with everthing else I mentioned. She helps me with my work on sites or maintenance on the house & vehicles, so staying warm is huge, especially since she's new to all this. I bought this from the seller "Amazon LLC", which I feel is important to list this info. I've come across sellers with variances in their items, including knockoffs, even if listed as same brand. I'll post an update with a durability review.

If you run or bike in the Winter BUY THIS
I have been using this product for the past 5 months in temps that average around 17 degrees Fahrenheit with about an 8 degree windchill. The warmest I have used it in has been 32 degrees and the coldest has been -29 degrees. I ride my bicycle to work every day and I run outdoors year round. In the Winter once the temps dropped below 30 degrees I found that my face was always feeling numb and my mouth and lungs hurt as I did my activities outdoors. I then started covering my face with a bandana but after about 6 minutes of heavy breathing, the bandana gets soaked. It also only provides a covering from the wind and not any extra warmth. I knew that I should be looking for an item of clothing called a balaclava. I selected this one on Amazon based on the price and the quantity of reviews. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the purchase. So much so that I bought an additional one! Wow! So when I ride my bike and run, this thing gets HOT. If the temp is above 15 degrees I usually end up getting so warm I have to take it off after awhile! I absolutely love the mesh part around the mouth because it does a great job of blocking air so I don’t feel the burn from breathing in frigid air yet it allows enough airflow that it doesn’t get completely drenched from the humid air of my breath. Having that sets it apart from all other ways of covering my mouth. While it does get a little moist around the mouth after about 15 minutes it is nowhere near as bad as if you had just used a regular piece of cloth for covering. This balaclava was the missing link in my life and now I can freely walk and move around in the cold and I don’t even notice it! The fitment around the eyes is perfect for my size of face leaving very little skin exposed. I decided to take a vacation to Denali National Park in January and I was excited to bring the balaclava along to see how it would fare. Needless to say it kept me safe and warm as I was out hiking in negative temperatures! When properly bundled up in Winter gear, I felt completely safe and warm from the cold air around me. If it works in Alaska in the Winter then it will probably work great for you wherever you live. 100% would buy again, 5 out of 5 stars!!!!

Beautiful mask, failed design
I was so excited about replacing my under-helmet cheapo masks with a real balaclava. It looks awesome in the pic. Problem is that if you bring the nose part up toward the top of the nose, the breatheable, mesh area that is supposed to be over the mouth moves up too high; you can actually look at the pic of the mask and see how that would happen. The alternative is to take it only 1/2 way up over your nose, which not only leaves too much exposed skin to get cold but gives you the smushed nose feeling (and if you wear ANYTHING that mildly smushes your nose, you may think it's ok after the first few mins but after two hours, it feels like you've run into a concrete wall with your nose). Anyway, I don't hate the mask but I am returning it for a different one by the same manufacturer that looks a bit more suited to form-fit the human head (actually has a nose cutout; it's the 6827 model) plus I just also went ahead and ordered the Chaos -CTR Chinook Multi Tasker Pro Micro Fleece Balaclava because I don't like doing the return thing over a period of weeks just to find what I'm looking for, so if the N-Ferno one fails me with the new model, I'll hope the Chinook an get the job done). If you have a smaller face, the 6823 may work fine for you; it does keep you warm but not too warm, and the mouth area, when in place, allows very easy flow of air outward. I just think this model needs some minor design tweaks. Also, threading was coming off around the "tube" part that goes under your eyes; need some higher quality stitching or double-stitching there.

Great for very cold winter bicycle commuting
I like to make my short commute on bike during the winter wearing a balaclava and ski goggles with my bike helmet. This balaclava solves all of my complaints with other designs. Here are problems I've had with others that I don't have with this one: 1) fabric doesn't quite cover all my skin around my goggles, or, if it initially does, it stretches over time. I find myself constantly adjusting and tucking my other balaclavas behind my goggles during very cold rides to try and cover exposed spots of skin. 2) the fabric over the mouth is either too open allowing freezing air directly on your skin (like those with actual cut-outs near the nose and mouth) or fabric is too tight-knit and doesn't allow free breathing under effort. 3) the design/fabric forces hot moist breathe up either in front of the outside of my goggles, or inside my goggles if tucked underneath, resulting in fogging my goggles. I haven't had any of these problems with the Ergodyne N-Ferno design. The geometry of the cut is so well done that I can adjust to have just the smallest slit for my eyes and everything else is well covered. I've actually found myself not needing my goggles on some days because of the great coverage. The fabric over the mouth is just the right breath-ability allow unrestricted breathing, even during hard exertion, but blocking most of the cold wind. Plus, with the good breath-ability, my breath isn't forced up inside my goggles when I tuck the fabric under my goggles, so my lenses stay fog-free. The only thing is this is not a medium/light-weight for mild cool weather, this is for seriously cold winter weather. It is thick material and I would think could get quite hot especially if you were using this for longer, medium to high-exertion exercise. It is like a fleece material so take that in to consideration.

Keeps You Warm (And It Doesn't Require Batteries!)
There are two things to consider when deciding if this product is right for you. One, what are you going to use it for? Two, what kind of weather are you planning on using this in? For me, the first answer is road bicycling and the second answer is 35 to 45 degrees. If it's colder than 35, I generally would get on the stationary bike. If it's warmer than 45, I won't need anything other than a Headsweat. With that said, this balaclava performs very satisfactorily. While some have complained that this is too large, I think it fits quite well. (Although I must confess I have a fairly large melon.) I like that you have a great deal of control when adjusting the scalp and face portions which allows you to adjust just how much of your eyes you want to expose. I should note that I wear cycling glasses when I ride, and as long as I breathe through my mouth (the mouth area is vented) I don't fog up my glasses. The balaclava is also long enough to fit inside your coat. Finally, as noted in the product description, this balaclava does not require batteries! I can't remember how many times my batteries died in the middle of a winter bike ride. Trust me, that will never happen again! I've only used this on three December bike rides, but it kept me warm. What more can you ask for? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Ergodyne 6823 N-Ferno Wind-Proof Hinged Balaclava
This is a well made piece of gear and even though, it is light and thin, it is very warm and adjustable. I'm not sure how well it would stand up for those who are working outside in sub zero temperatures for any length of time but it certainly is warm enough for me up here in Canada. Although I am not out for much more than an hour or two at a time, it certainly is warm enough and thin enough that I can wear a hat over top of it on really cold days, if necessary. I dare say though, that if you are working and moving about, then you would stay toasty warm while wearing this. One caveat though, if you wear prescription glasses, as I do, if the mask covers the nose, then the glasses will fog up fast. This is a problem I have always had with balaclavas but the solution is to just pull it down slightly so that the nose is exposed, then no fogging. You may end up with a wee bit of a cold nose but at least you'll be able to see. Somebody mentioned in another review that this balaclava is not for those with large heads. I do have a quite large cranium but this is reasonably stretchy material and should accommodate the average head, even fairly large ones. The part that covers the face might get a bit irritating after a few hours outside but, certainly, for short periods, should be more than comfy enough. Hope this is of some use to you. :)

Great value for the snow
Really like how the head piece is snug around my head so it doesn’t slip off. The contour in the front means it sits around your chin, nose and mouth comfortably. Also really easy to breath through while on the snow. Great purchase!
