Clocked My Kid’s Fastball—And My Husband’s Ego!
I bought the Bushnell Velocity Speed Gun on a whim to settle a family debate over who throws the fastest fastball—and now it's the MVP of our backyard games. This thing is ridiculously easy to use: just point, click, and boom—instant speed readout. It’s accurate, responsive, and works from a good distance, which means I don’t have to stand in the line of fire (thank goodness). We’ve used it for baseball, soccer kicks, and even to clock how fast the dog runs chasing squirrels. It’s become a party trick and a training tool all in one. Battery life is solid, build quality feels durable, and it’s light enough to carry around without feeling like you’re lugging a radar station. If you’re a coach, a parent, or just someone who wants to prove they still “got it,” this speed gun delivers. Highly recommend!

watch out for battery sticker
I took mine out of the package and installed the batteries as described in the picture on the sticker in the battery tube. Didnt look right, figured it was the other way around, but heck, the sticker said so....well after a few minutes of it not turning on, the handle started getting hot and the display screen started to go black in the bottom right hand corner. I took the batteries out and let the thing cool down thiking it was screwed up and I would send it back. After about 5 minutes the screen went back to normal/silver/grey. I placed the batteries in the way I thought they schould go in and walla...it worked....??? Bottom line, place the batteries with the nipple down towards the inside of the gun. My rating so far is a 5, but the battery sticker brings it down one. I am still debating if to sent it back and get another just because I am worried mine might have took some abuse internally because they improperly placed the sticker upside down in my gun. But here is what I found using it.... I bought it for my 10 year old son who is a little league champ and allstar. He throws hard, we wanted to know how hard. Plus I can use it to coax him into throwing his hardest by teasing him with the results....and I can use it to scout kids for draft tryouts. I found even after the battery debackle the gun worked great. I sat on my bucket glove in one hand, gun in another, he was up on the regulation hill, he threw, I pulled the trigger, it gave me a speed that looked very right to what I was seeing. I figured my boy would throw 45-50mph he topped out at 49mph on the gun. There was twice where it gave me a speed of 17mph, when I knew he has thrown about 45mph. I am unsure if it was because of the battery issue or because I didnt have it aimed right, or if it is a quirk? Overall 95% of his pitches looked correct. I like the gun, the price and the things it has proved so far in its 1st day of use. I likely will return mine and get another so watch out for the battery sticker...otherwise cool stuff maynard!!!

No accuracy problems for us
I didn't have the accuracy problems others were having. There is a small learning curve with the gun though. I found that you either have to be directly behind or in front of the object your clocking, in my case, baseballs. I bought the case that is sold separately. We've used it at several practices and have not had any issues. It feels like its built pretty well. It takes 2 C batteries that last forever almost. Fits perfectly in my coaches bucket. Try it out. If you dont like it, you can always return it but be patient.

Very Cool Gadget
Works best for larger items with no moving parts (cars, baseballs). Didn't work so well trying to read running speeds as it wouldn't read the person's overall position, but would catch the flailing appendages. Found that it reads best when in front of what your trying to read. Either off to side at 20-30° or behind a net. I imagine the type of net or the distance you are behind it would affect the accuracy. Works well, had fun with it reading whatever we could throw at it.

Do not trust Bushnell or the reliability of this product
Bushnell does not stand behind this product. Bushnell does not have good customer service. Amazon did a great job of getting me a refund for this after it stopped working for no reason after only 10 uses. I used it for clocking soccer ball kicks. The kids loved it and it is a great idea. It worked great, when I wasn't using it i kept it in a bag in the shade, dry and protected, with the battery cover removed so as not to waste battery since the screen always showed mph even when it was powered off. this item is not returnable on amazon so I had to work through Bushnell. They sent me a 2 day label after a phone call and then I waited weeks to finally get an email response where they offered me a 10% coupon off of a new purchase since they claimed that the gun had water damage. It did not ever get wet. They were trying to blame off the unreliability of their product on me. Money is not the issue here, when a company does not support their product, and blames a customer, that needs punitive damages. I gave them a chance to do the right thing and send me a replacement. The cost on this item is probably close to that of the shipping label that they sent me, they just lost a customer. Definitely buy from someone else. Thanks to Amazon for doing the right thing. They solved in 7 minutes what Bushnell couldn't do in 3 weeks. Meanwhile every day the kids kept asking me when the speed tester was going to be sent back.

Not all as expected
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son that is currently obsessed with running, therefore, he wanted something to help him measure his speed at the track (or anywhere else). I looked everything around, but the other ones were more complex to operate and way more expensive. This speed gun was something in the middle, with positive reviews, so I decided to give it a go. The gun operation is super simple, just point at "something" coming towards you, pull the trigger and done, the gun does the rest. We tested it multiple times, in different environments, even with different people, but it seems the gun accuracy is not super reliable or accurate. For 5 runs of my son down the track, the gun will measure at times 22 miles/h (impossible for a 7 yo kid), or sometimes 5 mph (when compared to a chronograph, is not even close as you divide distance by time and he usually get about 10mph each time). I even tried measuring my speed and it showed 56 mph (again, very inaccurate). Then we decided measure cars (the manual said it will measure everything moving). Again, very inaccurate measures. Overall, the build quality and easy of operation are a plus, but if you don't get the readings accurately (is the gun's purpose, right?) then it doesn't have that much value. All in all, my son still uses it and takes it to the track. Not sure if the gun is defective (it doesn't seem so) or it's just how it works but I feel a little bit on the disappointed side.

I mean to say like a cricket umpire when a bowler approaches
Product work well, only thing is that another person has to hold the gun straight in line of ball.I mean to say like a cricket umpire when a bowler approaches. U can also record speed holding it in your one hand and throwing ball in straight line of sensor of gun but in this way you are not able to apply your maximum force but it works.
