Good remote switch for home automation
Ordered this part to use with a Schlage window and door sensor . I was having trouble finding a suitable location to mount the Schlage on an overhead garage door. This Amseco door switch provided a solution. The switch installs easily with some self-tapping screws (not included), and the contact leads can be wired to the sensor's screw terminals. The switch has a large gap sensing ability and can be placed around 2 inches apart from the included magnet. This provides a large adjustment area and should be able to placed in a variety of locations on a garage door. I chose to mount the magnet at the top of the door, and the contact enclosure on the wall above the door. I had around a 1.5" gap between the contact and the magnet, and it closes or opens the contact reliably. If I have a similar situation in the future, I will definitely order this switch again!

Did the job, price is right
Works well, probably best option for the money. I was unable to mount this on the side near the steel track, there was too much interference with the magnet to activate the switch. I opted to mount to the top of the garage which was not "perfect" because the top of my garage panel is not flat. Overall, very pleased with the result. The product itself is very well built.

A good switch solution for the roll up door on my shed.
I bought this door switch for a roll-up door on my shed/shop. I connected it to an ecolink z-wave door/window sensor so I could alarm my shed. I was having some trouble figuring out how to put a sensor on my roll up door on our new shed and I came across this switch. I figured I'd give it a shot since Amazon has a great return policy and the price was low. It worked like a charm, I wired it to an ecolink z-wave sensor, mounted the sensor to the wall, screwed the switch to the floor of the shed and mounted the magnet portion to the bottom of the roll up door. Now, I get an alert (or alarm) whenever the door is opened.

Perfect for my three garage doors...
I wasn't sure quite what to expect from this as a DIY project, but these worked out great. They're designed to be mounted on the floor, but after some testing with a multimeter, I determined that the orientation of the magnet to the sensor isn't all that important. As long as the magnet is within about 2 inches of the switch, the switch closes and I read a short on the lead wires. I went ahead and took the magnet off the steel angle-bracket it shipped with and just mounted the magnet directly to the top of my garage door. Then I wired the sensor side to the garage wall next to the magnet. With that wired into my security system, everything is now up and running and I'm a happy camper! I can't think of anything bad to say about these. They did what I wanted them to do right out of the box.

The switch is "Normally Open"
It is not specified. But, I would have expected this switch to be "normally closed", such that it is closed when not activated by the magnet. It's not! It works in the opposite mode, such that it closes when activated by the magnet.
