Clear Your Schedule!!
Book Review Wow—this psychological thriller was absolutely worth the read. The characters were written with a level of complexity that kept me guessing all the way to the end. There were plenty of twists and turns, but they were presented in a way that never felt overwhelming or confusing. Alice Feeney continues to impress me as an author, and I have no regrets about picking up this book. It’s definitely one I could see myself reading again. If you plan to start it, make sure your schedule is clear—because once you begin, you won’t want to put it down. Why 4 Stars Instead of 5 I gave this book four stars instead of five because it left too many questions unanswered. The ending felt abrupt and lacked the closure I was hoping for. Just a few more well-written pages could have tied up several loose ends. I found myself wondering about multiple unresolved details, especially surrounding the main character, whose depth felt only partially explored. There were also moments in the story—like references to events happening “again”—that were never fully explained. While I’ve seen mixed discussions about a possible sequel, I’m not sure one is necessary. I would have preferred clearer answers within this book. Amazon Experience The book arrived on time and in excellent condition. While I still enjoy visiting brick-and-mortar bookstores, Amazon has remained one of my go-to places for purchasing books. That said, I do wish their site was a bit more organized when it comes to browsing. I often find myself discovering books in-store and then searching for them online later. More often than not, I end up buying from both—which is great for bookstores, but not so great for my bank account.

Twisted
This book had me questioning everything. From the start, I never felt fully certain about what to trust and that uncertainty was the most unsettling part. Twist after twist kept leaving me constantly rethinking what I thought I knew. Reality feels fragile in this story, and I couldn’t help but wonder how much of what I was seeing was shaped by the narrator’s lens. The writing was incredibly descriptive and vivid especially during the hospital scenes. I felt immersed, almost like I was experiencing the confusion and stillness right alongside the character. This genre is new for me, and honestly, it was a little scary but in a way that kept me hooked. Beyond the suspense, the book made me reflect on how deeply childhood experiences shape who we become as adults. Unhealed wounds don’t just disappear they follow us, influence our choices, and can lead to destructive patterns if left unchecked. I think this would make a fascinating TV adaptation… though I’m not sure I’d have the nerve to watch it. 👀 If you enjoy psychological thrillers that mess with your mind and make you question truth, memory, and perspective, this one will definitely stay with you.

TORN ON RATING
This book started out very well. There is definitely a very fine line between sanity and insanity. Perhaps, that line is just as thin between evil and good. I thought the author did a great job imagining what one might experience during a coma state. I found myself underlining many of her insights. However, I found some of it drawn out too long and I never really connected with the characters. With invisible friends I was sure she would reveal some schizophrenia along the way but the story didn't go in that direction. Anyway, I'm going ahead and giving 4 wavering stars. But hats off for a debut novel!

Such an amazing quick read!
Sometimes I Lie is exactly the kind of psychological thriller that reminds me why I keep coming back to Alice Feeney’s work. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the story calmly—almost smugly—pulled the rug out from under me and left me staring at the pages like I’d missed something obvious the whole time. The structure is sharp, the pacing keeps you unsettled without feeling rushed, and the psychological depth makes you question what’s real right alongside the characters. It’s twisty without feeling gimmicky, and the final reveal lands with that satisfying “of course… but HOW did I not see it?”

Captivating Yet Confusing
I really want to rate this a 3.5-3.75. A 3 is too low but it’s not a 4. It took me a while to really get into this book. After the first twist, I was locked in. As the twists grew more plentiful, so did my confusion which I know thrillers do BUTTTT this might have been a little overdone. I couldn’t put the book down at one point because I was intrigued but partially because I had to reread parts to make sure I was getting it right. It was a good read that kept me on my toes while scratching my head.

First Alice Feeney
Let me start by saying, I have had this on my TBR list for years. This was my first Alice Feeney novel, and I am not really sure what took me so long to pick one of them up. The narrative is broken into three perspectives: Amber's thoughts whilst in her coma, her remembrances of the events leading up to the accident that put her in the hospital, and diary entries from the early 90s. The sections where she is in her coma are haunting and claustrophobic. What I liked: 👍 While starting slow, the pace and intensity increased, as as more and more about Amber's past is revealed. There were some shocking moments. 👍 The ending had two plot twists that I did not see coming at all, my mouth was literally hanging open over one of them, which is so exciting and I love when thrillers can surprise me like that! 👍 The characters are all pretty unlikable and not without flaws. Entirely complex individuals. You never know quite who you can trust. There are plenty of secrets. 👍 I thought I had figure every thing out, but then BAM, everything changed. What I didn't like: 👎 The beginning. It. Was. Slow. I was bored and it took me a long time to get into it. Synopsis: Amber Reynolds wakes up in hospital, but to everyone else she is in a coma. She can't move or speak. She can hear the people who visit her, but they're not aware of it. The narrative jumps between the "Now" in the hospital room where Amber attempts to uncover what happened, a "Then" leading up to what happened, and childhood diaries from decades ago.

Totally worth reading!!
I have just finished this book and I love it! Even though I haven't favored any book for years. If you like Gone Girl, this is another book for you to get addicted to. The story was brilliant, especially when you know what the truth is.

An Ingeniously Twisted Thriller That Redefines the Unreliable Narrator
Alice Feeney’s Sometimes I Lie is a psychological thriller that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go—even long after the final twist. It’s dark, unsettling, and expertly plotted, offering the kind of layered narrative that fans of Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins will devour. The novel opens with a simple yet chilling premise: “My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me: 1. I’m in a coma. 2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore. 3. Sometimes I lie.” What follows is a masterclass in misdirection and psychological complexity. Told through three alternating timelines—Amber’s present-day coma, the days leading up to the incident, and her childhood diaries—the narrative unfolds like a puzzle box, revealing shocking truths piece by piece. Feeney’s writing is taut and atmospheric. She excels at building tension and planting subtle clues that only make sense in retrospect. The characters are well-developed, particularly Amber, whose voice is compellingly raw, vulnerable, and disturbingly ambiguous. The emotional stakes feel real, and the final twist—without spoiling anything—delivers a genuinely jaw-dropping payoff. What sets this book apart is its intricate layering of memory, identity, and manipulation. It’s not just a thriller; it’s an exploration of trauma and the lies we tell ourselves to survive. Readers looking for a straightforward mystery may find themselves challenged by the non-linear structure, but those who enjoy psychological depth and clever narrative turns will be richly rewarded. In Summary: Sometimes I Lie is an intelligent, gripping debut that demonstrates Alice Feeney’s command of psychological suspense. It’s the kind of book you’ll want to reread just to appreciate how skillfully the story was woven together. Highly recommended for fans of twisty thrillers and unreliable narrators.
