Really, Really, Really Nice Watch
If you’re an individual looking for a quality mechanical wristwatch and you don’t have or want to drop big bucks on a watch, you will be hard pressed to find a better automatic at this price point. I was somewhat dubious having never heard of an Orient before. It sounded like the brand name you might win at a carnival but this is a serious Japanese company, established in 1950 and part of the Epson Seiko Group. Also, Orient specializes in mechanical watches. I had been reading good things about the Orient Mako on various watch forums and many posters were fans of the Mako’s, Rays and Grand Divers. I had been eyeing a more expensive Seiko divers style watch but read so many good things about Orient, I decided to give one a try. I’m really glad that I did. The Ray I received is beautifully crafted from quality materials and Orient manufactures their own movements in house which apparently is both rare and a very good thing in wrist watch quality control. These are very well regarded mechanical movements known for superior accuracy. In the time that I have owned the Ray, it appears that it gains about 7 or 8 seconds per day which is really good for a mechanical watch. There are some compromises but very few considering this watch’s price. The watch came well packaged in a real display case strapped to a little cushion. My first surprise was when I picked the watch up, it felt really solid. I shook it a little and it made a little grinding sound, a little like the sound of my Seiko Kinetic but quieter. The case is a perfect size as is the face. As others have mentioned the blue dial looks black. In direct light it, it takes on a blue hue like when sunlight hits a DVD. To my eyes the face appears very dark royal blue with a blue prism effect hovering over the area that the light is hitting, very pretty. The hour markers are spaced perfectly and the lume is the brightest and longest lasting of any watch I have purchased in the past forty years. I keep the watch on my nightstand and the lume is still faintly glowing when my clock goes off at 5:30 AM. The mineral crystal is one of the compromises, sapphire would be nice but at this price, really? The watch’s crystal is spring water clear and looks beautifully framed in the very dark royal blue bezel. The case itself is polished stainless steel on the sides and brushed on the top part of the case. The substantial bracelet is a combination of polished and mostly brushed metal. The crown is screw down for water resistance as is the date changer button that sits to the side of the crown. All the visual elements go together beautifully and the watch exudes quality. Setting the time and date on the watch was easy. By gently turning the crown counter clockwise and releasing it, I found that it pulls out smoothly and clicks gently into position without much resistance. The movement of the hands are smooth and precise. After setting the watch to 6:00 to be certain the date change gear was not engaged, I unscrewed the date button and advanced the date to the day prior to today’s date, then advanced the hands to the correct time and date verifying the correct AM/PM setting. Since setting the watch about a week ago I have noticed that it has only gained about a minute or so. One odd quirk though, my Ray takes it's time about changing the date. It seems to start changing around 11:00ish and doesn't get fully finished on the new date until around 1:15-1:30. Not a big deal, I'm usually asleep. I don't know if this is common to this models movement but considering none of my other watches take as long to complete the date change and the minutia that some wristwatch people get rabid over, be forewarned. Regarding criticisms, as others have mentioned, turning the bezel requires a bit of force, however, its rotation is smooth. Some have complained that the numbers are not etched into the bezel but do a head count on some of the most expensive brands and you will see that this criticism lacks merit. Also mentioned is the lack of an exhibition window on the rear of the watch. Although that’s a nice touch, I personally don’t really miss it. And finally, there are some criticisms that might be directed towards the band. The bracelet is attractive and refined like the rest of the watch. It’s links appear to be solid which is a rarity. The bracelet opens by lifting a secondary latch and pressing two tabs along the side which releases the main clasp. It is a good secure design but there is something that feels a little flimsy about the secondary fold down clasp. Perhaps it’s the presence of a tension pin which allows the clasp to pivot loosely when disengaged. Also, many true divers watches have an extension clasp which allows an additional section to lengthen the band to fit around a wet suit. There is none on this band. Having brought that up, this watch is rated water resistant to 200 meters but the designation is not D200 indicating it has not been ISO 6425 certified for actual diving. It actually means it might be alright to go to 200M for a bit but using it to dive is a gamble. I have not seen any official warning against using the watch to actually dive with but it is not certified for that purpose, just saying… In summary, this appears to be one of the best most solidly constructed watches I have ever bought, especially in this price range. It is unquestionably from a cost basis the best money I ever spent on a watch. Love it!

Very, very nice watch for the price
I was looking for a new watch and was split between either this one, or the Seiko SKX007/173 that everyone seems to rave about. After reading several comparisons and reviews on multiple websites, I came to decide that I wanted this watch, mainly because I liked the look of the bezel, face, and the bracelet more so than the Seiko. Both movements seemed to have the same reviews in that they are both very durable and can keep very accurate time for this price point. So I decided to purchase this watch and after a few weeks I am still more satisfied than ever with my decision. First I'll describe this watch, hopefully to give you a consumer's perspective instead of a manufacturer's. The watch face is 41.5mm (I believe) wide. Physically, this may seem small, and with my ~6.5" wrist this is the case with me too, however the watch sits very nicely and the two crowns make the watch seem slightly larger than it is in my opinion. Both crowns are screw down, giving its water resistance a little boost in confidence, I would feel very safe swimming with this watch (although I wouldn't recommend diving with since the watch technically isn't certified for that like the Seiko is). The 2 o'clock crown isn't exactly a crown in the literal sense, it is a push button that changes the day of the week complication on the face. The day of the week is listed in two languages, English and Spanish, with Sunday (or Domingo) in red and all the others in black. The day/date complication is one reason I actually chose this watch over the Seiko, I think that the silver outline around the display give this watch a little extra class that the Seiko doesn't quite have, along with the silver borders around the dial indices and the hands. Also, the bracelet on this watch has solid links and looks quite nice, in my opinion, is nicer than Seiko's bracelet. That being said, the end links are hollow so there is a little bit of rattle, but nothing that personally bothers me. It is 22m and I bought a nice black nylon NATO style strap for it to give it a sportier look when I don't want the more formal look that the bracelet provides. Black goes really nice with the blue face. The movement in this watch is a Japanese Orient 46493 movement with 21 jewels. This movement is made in house by Orient and I think that might lend itself to its durability and credibility. I don't really count the seconds it gains because I don't need absolute atomic caliber timekeeping on an everyday basis, but I have noticed that it runs fast about 30 seconds or less after 3 to 4 days. To me, that means that it is good enough. I like fidgeting with the watch any ways so setting it once a week (at the most) is no problem for me. The bezel has a nice click and almost no backwards movement at each click. I have heard that the Seiko tends to shift backwards (clockwise) once it clicks, but I have not found that to be the case with this watch. Also, I see that this watch is listed as having a 60 click bezel, but I counted 120 clicks on mine. Not sure if that was just a recent design change or what, but that's how mine is. Now the lume. I used to own a Seiko Solar Diver (I believe it was the SSC series) and the lume on that watch was absolutely amazing. The thing would be still glowing like it was nuclear when I would wake up in the morning, even if I didn't "charge" the lume with a flashlight the night before. Compared to that, I think any watch outside of a higher end Rolex or Omega would pale. This watch, however, holds its own in my opinion. Sure it doesn't light up the room, but even without a charge at night I could still read this watch in the darkness in the morning. To me, that is all I can ask for. When charged, this watch glows just like the Seiko did, granted the lumed spots in this watch aren't as large as the Seiko's so that might add as to why the Seiko seemed so impressive. There is lume applied to the dial indices, the 12 o'clock bezel marker, the hour and minute hands, and a small amount at the end of the second hand. I feel like my "pros" for the watch have already been listed above, so I will explain my very short list of cons: 1.) I wish the watch was just a little bit bigger than it is, but it is not something that I am overly concerned about. I think I may just be used to a larger watch. 2.) The other metal bands with the solid curved end links that are stated to work with the Seiko 007 on Amazon did not seem to work with this watch. The curve was just slightly different than the Ray allowed and this bugged me. I realize that the bracelets were stated to work with the 007 and not this watch, however based on the reviews that I read about them apparently some other people got theirs to fit. Maybe I am just bugged a bit more by those little things than them. Either way, it is nothing against this watch and was just a personal con for me since I can get solid curved end links for this watch, but in no way would I subtract a star for that. 3.) I kind of wish this watch was certified for diving. I know that a lot of people might just see the 200m and not realize that it isn't to the same specifications as the Seiko 007 is. However, the instruction book clearly states that they don't recommend using this watch for diving, so there's that. 4.) The lume on the bezel 12 o'clock position and the lume on the second hand are so small that they are very hard to read. The rest of the lume is great though, so this isn't too big of a deal. All in all, I would definitely recommend this watch to anyone looking for a reliable watch with an automatic movement and don't have the money to spend on something as pricey as an Omega or Rolex. Go out and get yourself one of these.

Excellent Watch - Looks and Works Like a Much More Expensive Watch
I wanted a solid, durable, quality watch, Diver's Style, that diplayed both the Day and the Date. Everything I researched seemed to be either cost more money than I wanted to spend, was made in China, or had poor or cheap quality reviews. I was convinced I would have to pay a high dollar to get a good quality watch and If you like this style, then you too also know that it's difficult to find both the Day and the Date; most watches dispay only the Day. I tried going the inexpensive route and originally ordered an Invicta Diver's Watch. I thought the quality was terrible and I returned it only a few days later when the crown broke and fell off. Luckily I got my money back. I was a little sceptical about this Orient watch at first. It looked nice but was much less expensive than any other watch I had considered. I read the reviews on Amazon, looked the company up online, and did additional research as well. When I received my Orient watch, I had to remove two links to size. The links were easy to remove and I had the band adjusted in about 15 minutes. Setting the time and the Day and Date features were easy. The watch is solid and has decent weight. It looks great and waterproof, which is good, because I wear my watch all the time and hardly ever take it off. I've been wearing it know for two weeks and it had kept perfect time. Usually automatic watches slowing increment in time, but I haven't noticed any with this watch. Only one thing I would tell you to watch out for. I noticed a couple days ago that the Day feature was displaying Sat when it was actually Mon. The reason this happened, is that the screw on the setting knob for the Day and Date feature came unscrewed. I must not have tightened it enough. I reset the Day and made sure the screw was tight, and it hasn't happened since; that was four days ago. Highly recommend this watch. I'm considering looking at the other Orient watch models, and I'm thinking about purchasing another on like this and putting it away to give as a gift later on.

A beautiful high quality dive watch at an affordable price
This is a beautifully made diver that really captures the classic Submariner style without a few originalities. I've enjoyed wearing it on my wrist and it's really a watch you notice. Unboxing: The watch comes in a fairly generic looking black box with a steel overlay engraved with Orient. It's not the most handsome box, but again, concessions must be made and they didn't blow any of their production budget on the box. The box is felt lined and the watch is wrapped around a pillow, as you'd expect . Changing links and band: I sized this to my wrist by removing three links without much fuss. The endlinks on this watch are hollow, which is a drawback in terms of the weight and solidarity of the watch, but I didn't find it to be anything worth knocking. The pins come out easily and the band feels high quality. I've noticed some minor scratches on the band over the last month or two indicating that it's a softer material, but again, to be expected at this price point. I suspect Movement: I haven't taken it apart to look inside, but I've seen some pictures and it's a nice basic automatic movement made in house by Orient. It's accurate and I probably only lose 3-5 seconds a day. Very impressive for this price. Overall: My biggest complaint about this watch is the lume -- I don't find it as intense as that on similar quality watches like Citizen, but it's still adequate, especially if you charge it with a bright light before using it in the dark. It's been in the water and survived minor immersions, but I haven't taken it for any dives yet (and likely wont...). It's a comfortable well wearing watch that I very much enjoy, and I think anyone who buys it will too.

I like it, the value for the money is extremely high on this one
Had this watch for about a month now, and it is fantastic! Let's be clear about that. The only reason I don't absolutely love it (and gave it 4 stars) is just personal preference reasons, which is no fault of this great watch. I just couldn't resist grabbing this watch at this price ($173), because I'm familiar with the brand and love the quality of these Orient timepieces. It's solid, got a very nice weight to it for its size, and you can tell it's made to protect against water. Also, the automatic movement and the way it stores the energy is well above my expectations for a watch in this price range. I love the fact that if there is no movement to wind the watch (like when it's in your box), it will stop before it completely drains the energy. So when you pick the watch back up, all it takes is a shake to get it moving again. All you have to do is reset the time, without going through the tediousness of winding it all the way back up again. Perfect! I've had watches that cost 20x this amount and weren't smart enough to do that. The reason I don't rate it 5 stars is because I tend to like slightly larger watches, 44-48mm, and I believe most Orients are in the 40-42mm range. And while the band looks fine and the clasp is great, the end links leave a little to be desired. And after wearing it a few times I think this watch would be much more interesting with a brown leather band. So, this watch is not an everyday wear for me at this point. Still, it's a keeper for my collection.

Very Impressive!
I ordered it Monday (7/23/2012) and received it today. Then again I used expedited shipping from Long Island Watch. Packaging was sufficient and secure. Will order again from them in the future. First impression: Wow! Opened the box and I was really amazed how beautiful the watch is. Over the past couple of years I have been passing an Omega dealer saying to myself "One day I will get that Omega Seamaster". Frankly, this is as close you are going to get but for 1/20th the price. This is my first Orient & diving watch. I am not an expert or a watch collector. This watch is heavy even heavier than my Citizen Eco-Drive Titanium. As for quality, 'time' will tell. You can dress-down or dress-up with it. Close to a James Bond look I think. I will update this review later on but I am really amazed. Update July 13th, 2013 ------------------------------- I have had this watch close to year now and it is working perfectly. No complaints. It does speed-up a little but by a 1-2 minutes every 2 weeks which is not bad for a mechanical watch. I wear this EVERYDAY, for the office, leisure and dressing-up but not for running of course. I have hit this watch on walls by mistake several times and guess what...still works like a charm albeit several scratches on the metal links but no big deal. Looking forward to owning this watch for years and years to come. Update: September 21st, 2015 --------------------------------------------- It has been over three years since I have bought this watch. I still wear it everyday and yes it still works. Here is what has happened so far. The pin holding the metal strap/link to the watch broke twice. The first time is because I was dumb enough to let a toddler play with it and she literally slammed it to the ground. I was horrified but guess what? No scratches on the time piece and it was working perfectly. The second time was because I was carrying something really heavy, a 100 lb Kettlebell, and I think the tension in my wrist was just too much for the pin link. Took it those two times to a watch repairer in a mall (kiosk) and got it fixed for 10 dollars. The past month or so I have been eyeing the Tag Hauer Aquaracer. Amazing nice watch but costs 10 times more and only has about 65% 5 start rating on Amazon as opposed to this Orient watch that has over 80% 5 star rating. I mean seriously, Orient could have just jacked-up the price and I would have still bought it. As time goes, you will really appreciate this watch at least I have. Not sure when and if I will replace this with a European brand but it does seem hard to justify spending over $1,500 and get a so so experience from it. I will stick with my Orient for the time being.

What I like: 1
Hi all. A quick review here for those of you that are interested in buying the Orient Ray or the Orient Mako. I initially wrote this on December 21st 2015. There's an update at the end. I'll try to keep it as short as possible. I ordered the Orient Ray (Orient Men's EM65009D Automatic Diver Watch) and the Orient Mako (Orient Men's CEM65002D 'Blue Mako' Automatic Dive Watch) in February 2015. I thought that with free returns I would keep one and return the other one but I was so impressed with the initial quality of the watches that I decided to keep both of them. They were under $140 each so for that kind of money I decided to keep both of them. What I like: 1. I like the design of these two! The combination of stainless steel, blue dial, white silver lined markers and hands and also the red tipped sweeping second hand really works for me. I like blue dials and, given the choice, I always seem to order a watch with a blue dial. The red on the tip of the sweeping second hand adds so much sportiness to the character of the watch. There's also a little red on the applied Orient logo which also plays well with the color combination. 2. I also like that there's a mechanical automatic movement made by Orient themselves. I was looking for a sporty looking mechanical automatic every day beater watch and this and the Mako are perfect. Plus it's rated for 200 meters of water resistance which is great. You don't have to worry about going for a swim in the ocean, in the pool, jacuzzi...it's gonna be ok. 3. One thing that I also like is the day-date complication. For a watch of this price to offer a date and day of the week complication is amazing really. If you wanted a swiss made automatic like this it will cost you at least $500-600. I also like the bracelet for the most part. It's reasonably well made and it looks good. So, overall, initially the watch seems really solid, well made and way beyond its price. What I don't like: 1. I discovered that the mineral glass which this and the Orient Mako have will scratch much easier than sapphire glass. It's the first watch that I bought with mineral glass so it's the first time I encountered this problem. This problem is corrected in the new Orient Mako USA which has a sapphire crystal which is much more scratch resistant. Now to be fair, most of the time you don't even see the scratches, only at certain angles you can see them. Does it bother me? Yeah, but you have to remember the price of this watch is under $140 !!! So, for the price, its ok. I'm kind of ok with it but just wanted to put it out there so you know what to expect. For myself, for the future I will definitely look to buy only watches with a sapphire crystal as sapphire is much more scratch resistant. 2. As I said the bracelet is ok, pretty well made but it could be a little "tighter", it could be better. Also the watch does not have solid end links so it will rattle quite a bit. Now the problem of missing end links is also corrected in the new Orient Mako USA which has solid end links but, as far as I know, the Orient Ray still does not have the solid end links. 3. As for how well these watches keep time, my Orient Ray keeps pretty good time, to the minute. My Orient Mako will lose one minute every 3 to 4 days. This is surprising since both watches have the same movement. Maybe I will have the watch looked at by a watch professional to see if it can be adjusted to keep better time. 4. One thing that I'm NOT particularly fond of is the fact that the movement is not hacking. That means that you can not manually wind the watch and you can not stop the second hand from moving. The only way the watch can be wound is to wear it or move it from side to side or to put it in a watch winder. It bothers me a little. For the future I will definitely try to buy ONLY watches with hacking movements. 5. One last minute SIGNIFICANT DETAIL. On my Orient Ray, which I really LIKE wearing despite its little flaws, the silver looking guard that sits on top of the day and date window recently came off !!! Yeah, it came off the dial and now it sloshes around inside the watch !!! Needless to say I was really surprised by this because the quality of the watch seemed really good. Now, a good mechanical watch you would expect to be able to wear it for many, many years, maybe even leave it to your children. So for a defect like this to happen really soon after you buy it it's really surprising and very disappointing! I want to mention that I wore the Ray and the Mako alternately with my other watches so I wore each watch maybe for 3 to 4 months of combined time. I called Orient today Dec 21 2015. They said that that part coming off the dial is not covered by the 1 year manufacturers guarantee. They said that the 1 year guarantee only covers the movement. That's disappointing! I asked them how much it will cost to have that repaired if I send them the watch and they said that they'll send me an email with an estimate for the repair. I'm really curious how much they'll say it costs. Now that part coming off the dial coupled with the fact that my Mako doesn't keep great time raises some pretty serious doubts, for me at least, about the quality of these watches. The impression that I have is that the quality of these watches is kind of ok but not great. It seems that it kind of depends if you're lucky to buy a good one or not. So, in conclusion, would I recommend buying the watch or the brand? Very, very, very cautiously, yes. Just because the watches are very cheap and they can be ok. You just have to remember that you will never ever find a great quality at a very low price. It just can not happen. Lesson learned. The good thing is that I did not spend a fortune on them. I was thinking of buying the new Orient Mako USA but now I'm thinking of looking for other brands like Glycine (Swiss), Squale (Swiss), Sinn (Germany), Oris, Hamilton, even a used Omega or other Swiss brand. All the best to you all! Update December 28 2015: In the meantime the bracelet of the Orient Mako fell apart while I was at work. One of the links fell apart. As far as I can see, the three rods that were holding the link together came loose. I'll attach some photos. The photos are not great but should be revealing. I have to mention that I have a regular job in a restaurant. I don't work in construction, I don't use a jackhammer every day, I don't do motocross. I'm just a regular guy with a regular job subjecting the watch to regular, ordinary movements. Nothing out of the ordinary. So, in conclusion, just one or two stars although, like I said, design wise I really like these watches. Serious quality flaws.

Great watch for a great price
This watch looks even better in person than it does in pictures. As other people have stated, it has a blue sunburst dial that reflects beautifully in the sun. The lume is excellent, and I have not had any trouble reading it at night for hours. The unidirectional bezel only has 60 clicks, instead of the standard 120, but I don't see this as too much of a downside. It will just not be quite as smooth as say, a Seiko SKX007. It has kept good time, and has no trouble staying wound throughout the day. The pushbutton at the 2 o'clock is responsible for changing the day when unscrewed. The crown screws down to keep water out as well. This watch has been with me for almost a year now, and it has aged pretty well. I have worn it everywhere, from swimming pools to showers (not recommended), and it has not been damaged. The only signs of age are in the bracelet, which has scratched where the outside of my wrist hits the table. It has considerable weight, and feels very high quality. If you don't like the bracelet, I believe this watch is sold with a rubber strap as well for diving. You can also replace the bracelet with a nearly unlimited selection of NATO straps with a width of 22mm. I have 3 myself that I like to switch out occasionally. The only issue I have had are the end links and the spring pins. The endlinks are a hollow design, which puts more stress on the spring pins than a solid design would. As a result, after around 6 months or more of daily wear, the endlinks will start becoming a bit wobbly and rattly, due to bent spring pins. If this happens, just order a pair of 22mm x 1.5mm spring pins, which costs around $4, and they'll be snug as new again. At this price though, solid end links would be too much to ask, as its closest competitor, the SKX007, also has hollow endlinks. Just something to be aware of, and a simple, cheap solution. Overall, this is a great watch, and I recommend it fully. Also consider the Seiko SKX007/009, etc if you are in the market for a diver's watch in this price range.

Super reliable and a good quality timepiece
I've had the watch for around 6 months now, and during that time it has been dropped (multiple times), banged, scratched and abused. I've taken it swimming, to the gym, university and pretty much everywhere else. The only time the watch is off my wrist is when I go to bed. After all this I can say that this watch is very very good quality, as it still runs perfectly with no issues and has not let me down yet. The lume is excellent, very legible and long lasting. Should you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night, it would suffice to simply glance at the Ray's dial to know the time, saving you from resorting to turning your phone screen on and hurting your eyes. The Ray goes well with anything you wear, be it suit and tie or jeans and shirt, it's never out of place. The accuracy is decent, but not perfect, but for around £100 that's to be expected, however should you be unsatisfied with this, you can always get it regulated, to which some have claimed accuracies of +5 seconds a day, although I cannot attest to this personally. The movement inside is Orient's caliber 46943, which is non-hacking and non-hand winding, so don't expect to synchronise it with the atomic clock to precise seconds, but then again nobody needs to be that precise, and if you do, I doubt a wrist watch is the way to go. Don't be put off by the lack of hand-winding either, unlike some of its Swiss counterparts, the rotor in the Orient uses ball bearings, which makes it super sensitive to the movements of your wrist, so even the smallest displacement produces a lot of movement, and therefore it winds with greater efficiency, ease and efficacy. The bezel is initially very stiff, which is annoying, but with time it becomes looser (not too loose though) and much easier to turn. I've found myself using it more often than I thought I would, such as timing things for cooking or using it to pace myself when sitting in an exam. As a final note, the Orient Ray, Mako and Mako XL all use the same movement, so the only factors that should affect your decision in which to pick of these three (if you are in the same dilemma I was months ago), are aesthetics and size, although be aware, the lume on the Mako XL is not relatively poor compared to the Ray and Mako, although not bad enough to be a deal breaker

A fantastic automatic watch, with quality far outpacing its cost
I purchased this as a present for my best man. As an owner of two other Orient watches I was keen to introduce my friend to them. There really is very little competition at this price, other than a couple of Seikos. Although Seiko own Orient, they operate as seperate companies, and all Orient's movements are manufactured in Japan, as opposed to the cheaper Seikos which are put together in China. The presentation box is a faux-wood hinged affair, with an Orient branded metal plate on the top. Unfortunately the glue beneath the metal had smudged out, giving a poor finish, but this was easily picked away. Inside the box is a pillow for the watch to rest on, and international warranty information. One point to note is that I am not sure how easily the warranty could be invoked in the UK, as there are no UK-based authorised resellers. The photographs do not do this watch justice; the blue face is dark and subtle, and the colour changes depending on the angle of light on it. The screw-down crown and day changer give some conviction that the watch would stand up to underwater adventures, and the lume is good for a watch of this cost. The face appears quite small, due to the relative width of the bracelet. For those with small-to-average wrists this shouldn't be an issue, but those with larger wrists may want to look at the Orient Mako XL. There are obvious design cues from Rolex's Submariner line, but it would be folly to accuse this watch of being a carbon copy. I expect the timekeeping will be in line with my other Orients, which share a very similar movement. +/- a few seconds a day is well within acceptable boundaries, and the power reserve should be around 40 hours. If I were to pick out a criticism it is that the steel bracelet doesn't have the same quality as some more expensive watches. I own a Tag Formula One (quartz), which has very convincing bracelet construction, but it was more than five times the price. The biggest drawback? I don't want to give it away! I may have to buy one for myself...

All the reviews are spot on!
Having seen the artice 'best kept secret in the watch world' I was intrigued just how good this watch is for the money and so when I saw it advertised on amazon UK I quickly hit the buy button. Coming from the states I did expect a long wait but as I paid UPS express delivery (> £10) it came in 6 days (and 2 of those were a weekend) exactly on the day they said it would arrive. The build quality and time keeping (its a 21 jewel automatic NOT a quartz) is exactly a I read on all the reviews and although its early days (only had it 3 days so far) I just love the look and feel of it. The watch strap is simple to adjust and needs nothing more than a steel pin to push out the link pins (and there are vids to show you how on you tube) . The presentation box is nothing special but hey its only a box. All in all a great purchase for everyday use, value for money and a man's watch in every sense of the word (even looks a little like the omega seamaster that daniel craig wore as bond!)
